ComparAction and CARP predatory ways

They are scamming elderly people along with ComparAction. My 88-year-old friend has been receiving the magazine for years now, and suddenly started to get invoices for a long-distance service, he never requested. Called ComparAction customer service and emailed back and they said they cancelled the service. He just received another invoice and his long distance has been highjacked by this company. This should be a federal crime and pursued by the airhorities as scam, harrasment and abuse.

I was leery about this outfit

I was leery about this outfit, but was sweet talked into by trying comparaction. Boy was that a mistake! They say “one is known by the company it keeps” and carp’s associating itself with a rip off confirms that both these entities are to be avoided like the plague.

My main reason for joining CARP was for…

My main reason for joining CARP was for better priced travel insurance. I took out travel insurance last February 2023 and the major insurance provider I was hooked to subsequently provided a very reasonably priced package. I tried to do the same for my wife about three weeks ago, but CARP's new preferred provider, CAA, only offered travel insurance at the full rate given anybody. I have tried to contact CARP twice, but there has been no response. (I contacted the original provider and they provided the same coverage for my wife at about $100.00 pa less than CAA).....so, in my opinion, there is no benefit to joining CARP, rather, the opposite would appear to be true.

We were fraudulently signed up tp this scam long distance call service. I am trying to cancel it. They are giving me the run around even as far as telling me they can't hear me when I call, along with a whole other bit of lies! I have contacted the fifth estate and they sent me a line to tell about this disgusting company. If you get called. Hang up!

STAY AWAY from CARP & ComparAction

STAY AWAY from CARP & ComparAction! They should be investigated. They are fraudulently targeting seniors.
They cold call and offer a free Zoomer magazine and CARP. when the customer says verbally yes they would like that, they are signed up to a long-distance plan through comparAction, however, they are held hostage by NOT being able to call out until they pay for a service they never signed up for. Canceling this fraud service is equally difficult. Started in July 2022, its now November. Not resolved. elderly cannot call daughter via long distance, phone wont dial out.

The ComparAction phone service cost me…

The ComparAction phone service cost me more than my original phone plan. I am now being charged for long distance whereas I wasn't before. It's a complete ripoff! Please don't fall for it. I wish I'd read all these reviews before signing on. I'll be really skeptical about the money savers CARP offers. Are they all scams?

They scammed my wife!

They scammed my wife who isn't even a decision maker on our landline account. I pay my home phone long distance, and that never changed. She now gets an extra bill for nothing. Not sure how that works. I've since cancelled my landline, so we'll see where that goes.

NO to CARP/ComparAction!

Stay away from CARP/ComparAction!
Very misleading company and they outright lied to us.
They convinced us to take their long distance plan. We were told it would be cheaper and the bill would come on our existing phone bill.
Our long distance actually doubled.
We cancelled long distance with ComparAction back in May. They did not cancel and continued to bill us.
We now have no long distance....busy signal when we dial..... and our local provider can not help us.

UNETHICAL BUSINESS PREYING ON SENIORS, THE VULNERABLE...AVOID!

The company uses unethical (if not illegal) business practices to prey on seniors and the vulnerable. My experience came about when dealing as a Power of Attorney for an elderly couple that wished to cancel Comparaction/CARP LD service.

Service was being charged for an out of service number for over a year. Additionally, when the service was cancelled, billing began re-occurring months later with threat of collections.

Far from an organization that claims to be of help to seniors. Complete unethical, if not, criminal behaviour. SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO OPERATE IN CANADA, PERIOD!!

Will be escalating report of their practices to the Gov't Consumer Protection Agency.

BBB rating of "F"

AVOID, AVOID, AVOID, I REPEAT AVOID!!!

Took advantage of a senior

This company called my 90 year old father and offered him free magazines he did not fully hear or comprehend what was being offered. They signed him up for a long distance plan which I did not discover until three months later when I received a $10 bill for a 1 minute phone call that was made from my cell phone. The call was not long distance only the number was as I used the home phone to locate my cell phone and did not dial 1 first.

I called the company stating we had long distance coverage thru another provider and they had taken advantage of a 90 year old man and needed to cancel the account. It was a 1 minute call which they could of easily credited back but refused to and would not cancel the account until the bill was paid. They stated Bell had been advised they were now the long distance provider Bell did not have our long distance service so them advising them they were taking over the account would probably have been noted but made no difference to Bell.

This company should be avoided they take advantage of vunerable seniors and offer no help when confronted.

Steer clear!

LAME!

After reading your 4 tough questions, the fourth stood out to me as so lame it instantly turned me off on your site, what a joke!
10% increase on OAS, GIVE ME A BREAK, that amounts to close to nothing, try double to triple the monthly OAS payments to reach close to $2,000.00 monthly, nearly every refugee/immigrate gets far more than a Canadian Citizen over 65 who has paid into it for nearly 45 years! Get some “NUGGETS” and demand much more than 10%…gawd!!!!

This is not a reputable organization

Before moving into a nursing home my parents were receiving bills from CARP. I know they never signed up for this service and they were being billed by both CARP and their regular phone/internet supplier. I believe them to be a scam- similar to other reviews here. When I searched for CARP and scam, I see they have cleverly put many posts on their own website alerting folks to scams (not their own)- which appear at the top of a search. My brother tried to cancel the service but the bills are still coming. I'm not sure how they got his contact information... It seems this organization is preying on and profiting from older people rather than assisting them.

Do not sign up for comparaction

Do not sign up for comparaction. Their long distance is too expensive and when I canceled the service they did not cancel it and was charged again. I asked for receipt of my cancellation and none received.
