Chantry Vets has been providing veterinary care to the pets of West Yorkshire for more than 60 years. Initially based in Wakefield Town Centre, we have expanded into one of the area’s largest Small Animal practices. We have 7 branches located across West Yorkshire in Wakefield, Middleton, Castleford, Pontefract, Normanton & Great Houghton. Our branches are supported by our main Hospital at Brindley Way in Wakefield. We initially moved from our headquarters at Gills Yard, Wakefield, to Alverthorpe in 2012, but later outgrew this site also. We opened our flagship purpose-built hospital with state-of-the-art facilities in March 2022 to provide greater levels of service to our customers and their beloved pets. Our Gills Yard and Alverthorpe surgeries now provide first-opinion services to the local community in easily accessible locations. The practice gained hospital status in 2013; the highest level of accreditation available from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). Every four years the practice undergoes rigorous inspections across all our premises.

Avoid this vets, they have caused serious stress and upset to myself and my family. Chantry Vets back office staff have persistently disrupted my wellbeing by indirectly attacking my understanding of 'common sense'. Forcing me to question myself. In my opinion this is a form of gaslighting! I was owed £1626 from Chantry Vets, I paid for this on 12 August 24 via credit card for a scan for my dog. The insurance team is an online service and therefore took a few days to confirm to the vets that they would accept all costs. The insurance team accepted costs and suggested that the vets invoice them for my costs (the scan), as well as future surgery costs, as they felt it would be a quicker way for me to be refunded. Meaning the vets should refund me on receipt of that acknowledgement from the insurance. However this was not the case. The vets did invoice the insurance for the scan and they were paid this from the Insurance team in full on 3 October 24. Yet continued to keep my money (even though they had now been paid for the scan by myself through credit card and the insurance company). The Vets had no reason to withhold my money and consistently refused to return it. I am a pensioner and I was being hit with interest on the card I had used to pay for the scan, leaving me feeling extremely anxious and having to try to keep paying amounts off when I could, to try to reduce the interest. However, this was of no interest or concern to Chantry Vets, they still refused to refund. The stress of this became too much and I had to get my daughter to support me in dealing with these people in the back office. Once my daughter became involved I did eventually get my money back, however my daughter also had to battle for this and staff tried to tell her she was also in the wrong for questioning them holding my money. This took until mid November to get this back. I have received not a single apology throughout this ordeal and have been made to practically beg for my own money, all I have been met with is deflecting blame excuses and dishonesty, as to why they would not refund it. We emailed Emily (the customer care Manager), who also deflected the blame to us, and refused to accept any accountability that Chantry should have refunded my money, even though they had severe failings. This was after six years of being a loyal customer. However, when it is them that owe me money, it has been a complete battle and cause of extreme anxiety and stress. I wouldn't want anyone else to go through this.
Positives:The vet surgeons are lovely and very good.
Negatives:The issue is the back room staff and money making politics that goes on here, oh and the robberey. They will hold your pets at ransom till you pay and wont fill in any insurance forms when you try to claim. Absolutely a joke. No customer service at all. Very rude recepption taking all the calls but cant help or direct you anywhere. The insurance is run by 1 person who is never there so nothing gets completed for the thousands of pets they see. Prices are high and they make up illnesses to get your cash. Be warned and go eslwhere.
My dog required surgery on his leg. Whilst I have no issues with the actual surgery on his leg, I was very unhappy with the post-surgery care. I discovered my dog had been badly burnt in his testicles (see my profile picture!), which I was told was due to the heat mat used post-surgery. When I raised this concern, the staff member was very dismissive, he didn't offer any apology and even tried to blame my dog for dislodging the heat map (despite him being heavily sedated). No real explanation of how it happened was offered and I was very unhappy with the lack of empathy at the distress caused. My dog was in distress for at least 2 months afterwards. The vets did provide treatment for the injury caused. Although this was billed in the invoice, they deducted this as a "gesture of goodwill" in a revised invoice (despite their admission that the injury occurred during their 'after care'). After I complained, an additional cost was added to my bill - is this just a coincidence? After everything that happened I decided to change vets and I was promptly hit with a bill for leaving the pet health plan early, and was subsequently threatened with debt collectors and legal action if I didn't pay the bill. I have noticed other negative reviews have received a response advising them to direct any feedback to the Client 'Care' Team, which from my experience is a complete waste of time. In my opinion, they are not prepared to acknowledge concerns raised at all, despite meeting them in person. Avoid.

Disgusting vets all they care about is money money money they dint care about you're animals there rude staff and just rude vets I will never take my dog here ever again giving him a flea treatment that made him ill and then tried charging over £100 just tp look at him absolute joke and I will be taking this further and the vets will be reported NEVER USE THIS VETS THEY DO NOT CARE FOR PR ABOUT YOURE ANIMAL THEY JUST WANT YOU'RE MONEY
Failed to provide crucial information on how much an animal health certificate cost when on the phone to the receptionist but did tell us other prices just not the AHC. Then demanded we paid £280 extra when we had already got the certificate and was due to go on holiday. Terrible. If anyone wants one there are plenty in local area for £100 just google it.
The practice also flat out lied to us during the complaint. Even their OWN practice manager told us they’re expensive for animal health certificates and even her own mother goes elsewhere!!!!
Very poor customer service. No communication or instruction and bordering on rude.
I have always valued the service and professionalism of the team at Chantry vets. But I just wanted to personally thank the vet Ben for going above and beyond for my cat this evening. He was finishing duty and yet took the time to stay behind to see me and my cat - who he spotted in reception on his way out - He provided consistency and continuity of care and made me feel that my pet is cared about. I can't thank him enough for his kindness & professionalism especially as it was effectively in his own time. Thank you Ben.

I have been going to chantry for years. My dog gets very excited when we get there as she knows she will get lots of attention from the receptionists. The vets and nurses are second to none and always treat my pets as if they were their own. wouldn't go anywhere else.

Absolutely brilliant.
They have seen one of my dogs through three major operations and my other dog with ongoing issues.
Each member of staff treats my dogs and myself like family. They are knowledgeable, polite and caring.
The aftercare is fantastic with every question being answered (that I’d forgotten to ask when I’m there!)
I cannot praise them high enough for what they have done for my GSD’s.
As for Brindley Way itself, brand new, very clean lots of free parking and easy to get to off the motorway.
Thank you to you all so much. 10/10

What can I say, Chantry Vets have outshone themselves yet again... My brother Bertie has been really poorly and been in hospital for a little while, they say he has this thing called lymphoma... he said that they treat him like a little prince and tried to shower him with squishes kisses and cuddles.
I don't know how long I'll have my brother for but I know that whatever he needs Chantry Vets will always be there for him.

DO NOT USE CHANTRY VETS.
We were told our dog needed a scan costing £800. When I collected him the receptionist explained the cost was due to Radiographer flying in from Poland plus his hotel bill. Three months later a bill was sent for £1268.84 with no breakdown or scan report. Chantrey have a genuine love for money not pets. Animal Trust in Dewsbury charge £419 incl VAT for same scan. Save yourself hard earned money, stay away from CHANTRY Vets.

Phoned this morning as my dog, Iris, had hurt her eye, was able to get an appointment today within a few hours.
Vet called Ben saw to her and he was great, she’s quite nervous but he took her time and was very patient with her. Medications ready quickly after the appointment, friendly reception staff 😊

Always been fantastic with my little dog. He’s been back and forth a few times with issues with his legs as he’s an older dog, had an operation and they were brilliant with him and got him sorted. Very attentive with him and communicated great with us.

Wouldn't use these Vets if they were the last surgery practicing. Hold them totally responsible for the death of our Yorkie. When Aysha went into Brindley Way in Wakefield she could walk when we picked her up 3 days later she was like a rag doll, couldn't even sit up on her own. When we complained they were full of excuses and basically called us liars over the treatment and lack of diagnosis Aysha received. All this lot are bothered about is how much money they can fleece you for. Find another Vet if you value your pets lives.
Will never use again missed an abess on my dogs paw.

My local vet at Great Houghton retired, Chantry now manage that practice. There isn't a vet on site daily or sometimes even weekly. We travelled to Wakefield today to collect a prescription, as there was no one at our vets to dispense it, nearly 50miles round trip. On arrival we were informed the medication wouldn't actually be available until Monday. Called our vet back to ask why they'd said it would be available to collect today, to be told they were absolutely sure that was what they'd been told to relay to us.. .. someone is not telling the truth! So in short, do not use this veterinary practice/ company if you want a reliable pet friendly service- they will gladly take your money alongside your time, cause frustration but most of all forget there is the welfare of an animal at stake!

Charged £140 for a booster shot and literally *one* flea treatment and *one* wormer.

If you're looking for a vet that cares more about your wallet than your pet, Chantry Vets might be the place. My experiences there, both old and new, have shown me they're all about charging you as much as they can, not about helping your pet.
When it's time to pay, brace yourself. The bills are high, and they're not great at explaining why you're paying so much. When submitting a claim to your insurance hope they do it properly and on time. The lack of professional experience will drag your claim forever.
In short, Chantry Vets seems to care more about making money than about taking care of your pet or making sure you're happy. My advice? Look elsewhere and find a place where your pet is treated like the family member and you, are a pet owner, treated with respect.
Our opinion of Chantry vets at Brindley Park hospital is very poor.
Our dog was kept overnight and was returned to us wet and smelly . They denied it all of course and said we had lied about it and that they give 5 star treatment to their pets ..what ...???? …Not this time they didn’t !
It was the worst worrying experience we have had at a vets . We felt strongly that they were only in it for the money . Couldn’t get their hands on our cash fast enough . Wanted £2300 upfront as we walked in for our dogs treatment .
Like most on here .. would have given zero stars but it won’t let you . I read that 75% would give this vets zero or 1% rating . That speaks volumes.!
Don’t use this vets unless you are a millionaire with money to burn and don’t care much about your pet…. . Most of us aren’t .
We have now parted ways through lack of trust .
I’d say this vets is the worst vet company in the UK .
Never never again
