Great service for playing and learning chess. The only thing that disappointed me was the data breach in June 2025

also the one star are tryhards who lost their rating and just blames it on this website

Don't listen to what chess.com says about taking cheating seriously, they do not care, I bought the premium subscription and they were nice when I was getting it but once paid for, they stopped responding, only engaging with me when its time to renew

They use bots in live play. 350,000 active users. They ban 100,000 accounts a month for cheating that’s 1/3 of the active player base. At 1200 elo, thats 90% of the player base that you are better then. 30,000 accounts higher. So only 15,000 games possible and that number is even smaller because they match you to your elo. Like way lower. Possibly 3000 people or less meaning there isn’t enough games to be played at that elo and higher meaning they use bots. The bots are there to stop win streaks so you lose rating and have to play to gain it back farming engagement. Even if you count the non active members. 10% of 2.2 million which is where you sit at around 1200 elo would be only 100,000 possible matches that could be played that’s 10% of 2.2million. The site is a scam and fakes its numbers using bots. If you buy the premium you go against real players more then bots that’s why when you buy premium your rating goes up.

Closed me out of a game and wouldn't let me reconnect.
On top of that their predatory subscription model that automatically assumes you want to pay for a full year up front as opposed to one month on offer.

I’m wining the game then the players leaves but the game is declared aborted.

Chess.com had a cheating problem in the past, and I expressed my concerns back then. I decided to return to the platform to see if anything had improved, but it seems cheating has become even more rampant. At this point, I highly recommend looking for another platform rather than wasting time on one that’s filled with cheaters. Chess.com claims to have dynamic cheating reviews, but if that’s really the case, why are so many people making the same complaint?

When my internet disconnects, Chess.com always makes me lose the game, even if I have a bunch of time left and it was only a short loss of connection.
Since there's no other way to appeal this unjust treatment, I did see no other way than to leave a bad review.

Those mfs banned my account cause they suspected that im using multiple accounts when i used only one account, they also not checking the appeal case which means they refusing to provide any proof to the situation, i paid for diamond member ship and now thats gone. Stay away from those mfs they might ban your account without any explanation, especially if you paid for diamond plan.

Chess.com has no respect for the effort people put in to gain ELO. You give no opportunity to chose the opponent, and force us to play CHEATERS at a extremely lower level than us or we are forced to resign and lose Elo. If i chose to play a bullet game and it takes me 20secs to think after my opponent sacrifices and walks me into a studied line I SHOULD BE ABLE TO USE ALL THE TIME ON MY CLOCK IF NECCESSARY, instead of being counted down and forced to resign because i am THINKING!!! If you are reading this comment, terminate your chess.com account and sign up for LiChess, as they are free with a computer engine analysis after every game, and you will not be counted down by a random clock for thinking, losing elo for using the time that you chose to use play with.

I understand the difficulty of running a web page where many people are cheating and needing to create a system that picks these cases out are hard or even borderline impossible.
And then having people manually reviewing tons of cases and trying to figure out which are right and wrong, there will be false positives and that happens.
sadly this mishap got my account banned, and has since given me a diastase for chess. It was not much used, nor that important to me, but still the feeling remains.

Paid for a gold account with an iphone and then the subscription was wiped. There is no way through apple to claim the subscription money back so fell thoroughly ripped of. Apparently this is better to do though the PC but you just trust things will be honestly handled.

Sort it out, game is unbearable to play. SO MANY TIMES I make a move and whoever I’m vsing gets stuck with what move they should make for a minute, then next thing you know **reconnecting** 30 seconds of them reconnecting they come back with the EXACT accurate move they was confused on making, why? BECAUSE THEY SCREENSHOT THE BOARD AND ASK CHATGBT FOR THE BEST MOVE. Sort it out, no one should be able to reconnect. It’s ruining the game. You can’t leave the table when it’s your turn in real life, saying that these cheaters will just take a picture off their second phone it’s so weird? What’s so beneficial about cheating in a chess game. So sad. Also has a guy call me a peasant ? And couldn’t respond back. Reported him multiple times and chess.com ignored it. So cheers for the respect of each other.

Awful experience. I did not sign up for an auto-renew subscription yet had £44.99 taken out my account without warning. Great difficulty cancelling and no way of contacting them.

Free version is annoying, paid version quality is not adequate to 25% of price.
