I would like to share my experience to help others make an informed decision before buying a high-value watch through Chrono24.
Unexpected import taxes
I purchased a watch from Japan and had to pay around £1,500 in import taxes. This was partly my responsibility for not checking carefully enough beforehand, but buyers should be very aware of these additional costs when ordering internationally.
Delivery handling (FedEx)
The delivery process was disappointing for such a high-value item. The parcel was left at my front door without a signature, which is not acceptable for a watch worth over £7,500.
Servicing claim without proof or warranty
The seller mentioned the watch had been serviced before sending, but there was no documentation or service warranty provided. After only one month of wearing the watch, it began running fast by 30–45 minutes, which is extremely concerning for a watch in this price range.
Limited support from the seller and Chrono24
The seller (Ginza shop in Japan) offered only a 14-day warranty on what became roughly a £9,000 total purchase including taxes, and Chrono24 explained they are only a marketplace platform, so neither party was willing to assist with servicing support or repair quotes. Customer service was also difficult to reach.
Additional cost for proper warranty in the UK
In the end, I paid an additional £1,000 myself to secure a one-year full warranty through T.H. Baker, where I received excellent customer service and proper support.
My recommendation
Before purchasing a high-value watch through overseas sellers on Chrono24, think carefully. In many cases, it may be safer and more reassuring to buy from an authorised UK retailer such as Goldsmiths, where warranty support and after-sales service are clearer and provide real peace of mind—especially when buying a pre-owned luxury watch.

Ive bought some lovely watches on this site, the format and layout is very well done, my only complaint is if your not first to put an offer in for a watch you in limbo as the seller may not respond to it, and you only find out once the watch is marked as sold, which may mean you have several bid in, which I can imagine is stressful for the seller too, I would like to see some notification from the site if you are the first bidder of not
