I decided to try Citizen Cafe Tel Aviv after studying Hebrew in many different ways since I moved to Israel 5 years ago. From the Ulpan to different courses, a private teacher, videos, audios, books, you name it, I tried it. I got frustrated, gave up and started again many times. Now I'm past the middle of my second semester in Citizen Cafe, and I have learnt more in these few months than in the previous 5 years. They have a very structured and solid method, manly pointed at teaching you to understand and speak modern Hebrew as it is used in everyday life in Israel. The teachers are excellent, the lessons are up-beat, fun and challenging. You practice speaking all the time in a small group and also divided into sub-groups during parts of the lessons, which include playing different games which are a lot of fun. In addition to the live lessons, you get to participate in practice sessions guided by a teacher. So you not only get two hour and a half lessons a week, but also many more opportunities to practice, which are included in the price, together with flashcards to review what you have learnt and exercises you can do on your own, including reading, writing, recording yourself and more.
So I wholeheartedly recommend it. My only criticism is that IMHO translating to and from English is used too much. Based on my experience learning English and French (my mother tongue is Spanish), I think this is mostly unnecessary. In the process of learning both languages, we never spoke Spanish, not even a word, and that helped us learn to think in the target language, without relating it to Spanish. I think they should consider that possibility. So I don't think their system is perfect, but it's the best I have found, by a long shot, I'm very happy with it, extremely grateful for all I'm learning, and I plan on continuing until I'm fluent in Hebrew.

I have been studying Hebrew online for three years now. I am now in my second year with Citizen Cafe. This method is great for getting you to speak in modern Israeli Hebrew. You learn through repetition, not through rote memory. There are games and interactions with other students, and it's really fun! My classmates are from all over the world. The teachers are very engaging.

Citizen Café is WONDERFUL. I can’t stress this enough. I am in my first “semester,” and I feel like I have learned and taken in more than I did in years of other language classes. The method is genius, the teachers are engaging, and the opportunities for practice are abundant. I work full time, but I have managed to make time for 90-minute classes twice a week and occasional 1-hour practice sessions and studying. It’s very doable and fun. I highly recommend it. Whether you are trying to learn Hebrew for work or family or just to pick up a new language and have a new “hobby,” this is a great program.

Citizen Café TLV is without mistake THE BEST AVAILABLE HEBREW COURSE to introduce yourself to Israeli society, regardless of your spiritual beliefs. This is for sure the conversational top.

Citizen cafe is great! They make learning Hebrew fun and (relatively) easy. They have a smart approach that focuses on learning by listening and speaking before writing, which is they way people learn languages naturally. In addition to the lessons on a set schedule, they offer practice groups a number of times per week.

I started my journey with Citizen Café during the Covid years, on a whim, when one of my synagogue school students asked me if I was fluent in Hebrew and I found myself answering, “Not yet.” I’m not sure I would have had the courage to go to my first class if I’d had to do it in person and actually get out of my pajamas, but knowing that I’d be safe in my living room, with my dogs around me and snacks nearby, gave me strength. And, really, after my first class, with a kind, attentive Israeli teacher, I was hooked. Surrounded by classmates from around the world, I took my broken, Day School Hebrew, most of which I’d long ago forgotten, and grew it class by class, practice by practice, listening to Israeli music and watching Israeli TV shows and learning some grammar along the way. And I discovered that I learn languages best the same way I learn songs, by listening and repeating and letting the sounds seep in until they become a part of me. From the beginning of this journey, but especially since October 7th 2023, my Citizen Café classes have been a place where I could meet people who share a love of Israel and the Hebrew language, and where I could feel safe making mistakes and being my own weird self, and most of all, know that I’m not alone.

I am so happy with the classes in hebrew. The teachers are kind and encouraging, yet we cover a lot of material. They have found a way to make learning hebrew fun. I also enjoy meeting people from all over the globe. If you are on the fence, you won't be sorry you joined.........

The focus on speaking makes the whole experience of learning Hebrew so much more approachable than what I have experienced with other ulpans. The classes are fun and challenging, and I always walk away from every class knowing that I have added to my vocabulary and have a deeper understanding and context for the language. I also really appreciate that there are so many different practice sessions at varying times and levels which allow for reinforcement of previously learned material and a continued opportunity to be actively talking and gaining confidence in learning hebrew. language is a living active entity and citizen cafe really helps to make sure that their students are growing and nurturing that language.

I cannot say enough about the Citizen Cafe Tel Aviv's program for learning Hebrew online. It's truly fun, the measure of which is how much I look forward to the classes. Equally, I love the other components of the program, which include interactive flashcards and online Zoom practice groups that work with all the material learned to date. These sessions are offered at multiple times throughout the week, reflecting the real needs of students from all walks of life. It's creatively conceived, and immensely engaging. Further, all the teachers have warm. upbeat personalities. Clearly they have been trained to make sure their students never feel inadequate or embarrassed. The program also recognizes that the physical act of speaking this language requires specific kinds of repetition, engaging not only the mouth but the brain in processing a language that is structured very differently from English. Midway through my 3rd 10-week semester, I am astonished by the amount of material I have been able to learn and assimilate. I love this program, and have recommended it to countless friends and acquaintances. If in doubt, check it out!

I love the style of citizen cafe! Fresh, fiendly and focused on what's really important if you want to learn a new language: to speak and to understand! No boring grammar explanations, no sheets of verbal conjugation you will never use in your life. But "tachles" what really matters: Community, fun of talking, overcoming fear of making mistakes ! You will not find any better "ulpan" and no way of making faster progress!

Citizen Cafe is truly the most wonderful program- It is carefully designed to encourage the most learning and experiential Hebrew speaking opportunities. The teachers are simply outstanding, funny, smart, kind, caring. My first teacher is someone who I am so grateful for. The Customer Service is out of this world- respectful, helpful. Citizen Cafe offers so many additional components on top of the classes to help you learn, and also to keep you connected in meaningful ways. I've learning Hebrew for 11 years in a very old school method. Last year I've decided to moove forward. I want to be able to communicate and to understand th basics.
