Rubbish

Awful. The worst bus company in Yorkshire and quite possibly the worst in the UK. Unreliable, frequently running late or cancelled without explanation, especially the 840. If a bus does turn up, it will likely be overcrowded. You may well end up standing on a weekend, even on a double decker. Drivers are rude, unfriendly and basically couldn’t care less. Complaints go unanswered. Yet they have the nerve to market themselves as this happy friendly company when the reality is the complete opposite.

Wouldn’t even give 1 star. Worst bus company in York. Always late, cancelling buses, rude drivers and to top it all off bus went sailing past the bus stop I was stood at, flagging it down and he didn’t even look to see if anyone was waiting. I’ve had to wait in the freezing cold with a screaming toddler to wait for the next one! Excellent service coastliner, you really know how to out do yourself!

A very mean and inconsiderate driver experience today

A very mean driver experience today. Me and my mother who suffers from arthritis, were stood waiting at Sutton Road, Tadcaster to travel to York today (Tuesday 24th June) at 15:28pm. Firstly a plain red school bus past us then a similar RED Coastliner bus (5 minutes later) drove straight past us and didn’t bother to stop and let us on the bus! We were both stood right below the coastline liner bus stop sign 👎🏻🤷🏼‍♀️ Please be kinder to your customers and be more aware of them awaiting you. Do the right thing and just stop, especially when you’re driving a red bus instead of the typical blue one at school times! 🙁

Hopeless

Hopeless. Sat in Tadcaster for an hour. The app says it’s just outside of town. It isn’t. The call it the Ghostliner for a reason.

What a shambles.

Coastliner - pretty, but poor service

Have used Coastliner several times now. Every time they've let me down. Service frequently doesn't run on time - except when the driver is clearly coming to the end of a shift and then they try to break to land speed record for a bus - and have often had to wait more than an hour or so for a scheduled service (no obvious problems on their 'useless' app). When the bus does turn up the driver pulls the 'I'm only the driver' stunt to deflect from providing an apology about a cancelled/delayed service, but then you hear them complaining at the next depot about bus 'breakdowns' and poor 'management'. I pity anyone who has to use Coastliner on a regular basis. Unreliable and unprofessional.

Unreliable and unbothered

I’ve reached the conclusion their timetable overstates how many buses they actually run. In recent experience only about 50% have turned up any where near the scheduled time and that’s being generous. Arrival Time tracker on bus stops also total fiction (bus in 2 mins, 40 Minutes later you’re still waiting). Hours of my life lost waiting for this service, really not doing a good enough job for the area it serves.

What happened to the great service we once had

I want to express my frustration regarding the ongoing transportation challenges for students travelling to York College, specifically concerning the service provided by Coastliner. My son has worked incredibly hard to earn his place at York College, yet he now faces the real possibility of losing this opportunity due to severe deficiencies in the transportation service.

The issues are alarming and numerous: a lack of available buses, overcrowding, and drivers repeatedly skipping designated bus stops. Despite my son clearly communicating that he is a 16-year-old student, he continues to be charged an adult fare, which is both inequitable and unacceptable. Furthermore, he has encountered confrontational drivers who disregard his situation, despite his daily disembarkation at the York College stop.

These concerns have been voiced multiple times, including by Kirsty Poskitt, yet there remains a lack of resolution for Tadcaster residents relying on this service. The current situation is untenable and inflicting undue stress on students who should be focused on their studies.

I urge you to take immediate action to rectify these issues and ensure that students can rely on a reliable and fair transportation service. The need for an effective solution is critical.

You get what you pay for

You definitely get what you pay for as the service is very unreliable.Out of four journeys to and from Scarborough only one arrived on time and went straight through in an uneventful manner. Two of the buses made passengers get off at Malton and wait for the next bus, due to lack of drivers. Another bus developed a headlight issue on one side and the driver refused to carry on despite his manager instructing otherwise. He got us all off at Tadcaster - just 15 miles from Leeds. Again had to wait an hour for another bus. Many passengers ordered taxis for the rest of their journey. I feel just a bit of common sense could help by making the bus a quicker and limited stop service which transports to the major towns only as opposed to also trying to double up as a regular service bus for folk who only ride two or three stops. The time saved might also help with the drivers hours problem. It’s a pity management or marketing don’t read these reviews as the service might possibly be improved. I gave two stars rather than one as it’s so cheap due to the subsidies.

Most awful service ever

Most awful service ever! You don't come on time and then 2 same buses come 5 minutes after eachother, you skip busses and l had to wait 1.5 hours for a bus. It's really bad when bus 843/840 is the only bus going to Tadcaster and need to wait 1.5 hours! Absolutely awful service!

The bus ride itself was fine (if a little long), the drivers were helpful, friendly and the buses clean and comfortable. The £2 fare is very cheap especially when compared to the train.
Sadly we had to swap buses at Malton so were delayed by 10-15mins and missed our train connection in Scarborough (had to buy another train ticket). It's good the bus manages to call at so many locations but also bad as it tends to struggle with traffic in the middle of York especially. Maybe a little more limited stops might help in York, so the local buses are picking up passengers travelling only a couple of miles. I wouldn't mind paying a little more for a faster service to the coast.

Your bus drivers are "invisible" to…

Your bus drivers are "invisible" to most passengers.
I board the bus and always say "Good Morning" and the drivers returns the compliment. Then when I get to my destination, I always say "Thank You" and most reply "you are welcome". I travel from York to Scarborough 2 to 3 times a week to visit and take out my ill brother who is confined to a Wheelchair.
I just wanted to send in this appraisal of the guys and gals who drive the buses to get us to our destinations and say: Thank You.

A disgraceful unreliable service driven…

A disgraceful unreliable service driven by angered ill-educated nobheads. Miss customers at a stop if they feel like it, smirk, do not know anything in the Highway Code about use of horn, ill-courteous, drive 2m from cyclists in a cycle lane and sound their horn!!!! Utterly disgraceful driving. Nearly caused serious injury to several passengers simply due to anger and aggression.
Sack the lot apart from superb award winning Polish guy and start again with a massive service rethink.
