£120 for 24 weeks cover, full comprehensive, which I thought was excellent, sadly my son's car fell foul of requiring expensive repairs, so the car was sold on to a garage. Cover was just over 17 days - outside of the 14 day cooling off period. Today, I was advised that "sadly" you are due no refund as the policy you purchased does not offer a refund. No £40 cancellation fee just, no refund. Now, don't get me wrong this is my fault for not reading the small print in more detail, BUT come on Collingwood £120 for 17 days. Final thoughts to those who read this review. Try somewhere else first. On the upside, the two gentleman I spoke with (Callum and Scott) were essentially helpful.
Absolutely shocking experience with Collingwood Insurance Services UK Ltd.
I paid £473 in full (£256 monthly payments and the rest as a deposit) for a policy that was supposed to start on 15/04 Everything went smoothly during the application, and they had all my details available to check at the time , but clearly, they chose not to.
The next morning, I found out my insurance was not even active. When I tried to log in, my account had been blocked without any explanation.
After calling them to find out what’s the problem I was told my policy had been cancelled due to “incorrect information” about something that had already expired a year ago. Instead of handling this fairly or even giving me a chance to clarify, they cancelled everything and kept the full £473 just imagine 473£ without me ever using the insurance, not even for a single moment.
This is not just bad service — it feels like they are taking advantage of customers and assuming people won’t understand or challenge what’s happening, as if we are living in the stone age and have no awareness of our rights.
I have been driving for 15 years and have never experienced anything like this. Even when there is an issue, other insurers give you time to resolve it. Here, I was blocked out of my account and denied any fair process.
Keeping someone’s full payment without providing any service is completely unacceptable.
I strongly warn others: stay away from this company unless you want to risk losing your money without receiving any insurance in return.

I have insured my car for less than a month and took more 300£ when they cancelled my insurance. Total scam, I would never use them again and I definitely wouldn’t recommend them for anyone
HIDDEN COSTS - BEWARE, DO NOT USE!
They insure learner drivers, but do not insure once passed and if they pass within 12 months, which most young drives do, you have to cancel the policy and pay a further premium (ours was a further £40, but others may differ), and in addition to that they threaten to report you to debt collection agencies - fuming is an understatement - I will be reporting them to the FCA too.
They hide behind the fact their customer journey is transparent, but it really isn't - Absolutely shocking company with zero professional integrity and preying on new young drivers.

Collingwood learner insurance Like so many I’ve been caught!!!
Collingwood learner driver insurance. Took out for our son Max, passed in the 12th month and got a message that they couldn’t renew. Called to tell them he had passed and wanted to see if they did normal insurance for a full license, said to the guy on the phone not to bother with the 20days refund only to be told ,no you owe us £40 to cancel the policy. Such a total joke, my fault for not reading the small print, such a con company hiding behind “ it’s written in the small print”. Anyway I have Max’s brother Jack who I need learners insurance now, will we use Collingwood, don’t think so, or their other companies like”My First” insurance , avoid . So if they were upfront they may have continued to have Max’s custom and his brothers, but instead they will no doubt charge my card to get their dirty £40 quid earned by ill means, just avoid, we don’t need companies like this anymore in this country, don’t use them and hopefully they will disappear. Like to add that I can’t remember Compare the Market listing on their extra charges that Collingwood make these that they must know!

This insurance provider is great UNTIL the policyholder passes their driving test - and they then hit you with a ridiculous cancellation fee. If you’re expecting to pass your driving test within the term of the policy, THEN LOOK ELSEWHERE. DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE.
(CIS - don’t bother yourselves to reply to this with some feeble justification regarding terms and conditions. The existence of a legally binding contract is no justification for unreasonable commercial behaviour)

bad experience, I don't recommend it, they doubled my insurance because NCB was older than 12 months, something that didn't happen with other companies

Paid nearly the full year premium for 4.5 months of learner cover due to the way there fees and stupid way they work out the pro rata DO NOT TAKE OUT A YEARLY POLICY go else where on a pay as you go monthly policy

Took out learner driver insurance for my son paid the 12month premium instead of monthly. My son passed his test within 7months of taking out this policy so had 5month remaining. Collingwood representatives said that 90% of my premium was used 7/12 🤦 and that the remaining 10% wasn’t enough to cover the cancellation fee so I received a bill which they kindly automatically charged my card with…..
Absolute scam of a company!!!!
We also had problems with login on my son’s portal and when we tried to contact them to rectify they kept on assuring me that I was logging in wrong or using the wrong device or inputting the wrong information, none of there instructions resolved the issue.
All we wanted was the insurance certificate as my son was taking the test in his own car, they refused to email it and said I needed to pay an admin fee to receive.
bearing in mind this was the morning of my son’s test which added to the stress he was already in.
I wouldn’t recommend this company ever to anyone, please look elsewhere, save yourself the headache.

Total rip off insurer, I took out a 12 month learner policy for my son, paid in full. The insurer wrote to me last week highlighting the policy needs to be cancelled when the learner passes their test. As my son had passed on the Friday before, I cancelled the policy, I then received an email for a £40 cancellation fee! Despite the fact I had paid in full and only had 2 months left of the policy, IF I had let the policy expire without renewing I would have had no cancellation fee and my son had already taken out full insurance out elsewhere on his car so would not or could not have claimed on the policy as he was no longer a learner. When Collingwood email to ask you to cancel 'if you have passed' they make no mention of the cancellation fee buried in the small print, BECAUSE they want to sting you with a charge you will have forgotten about when you took the policy out, nor do they mention it when you cancel on line until after you have cancelled.
