Gone are the days when Compost Direct were a considered a decent and reliable company. After many years of happy service from Compost Direct the last 5 months of orders have been horrendous with them. They have stopped delivering direct and contracted out to a company called Woodrush. Don’t believe any of the information on the Compost Direct website about being contacted after your order to confirm delivery dates, this never happens nor delivery in the periods stated. You will be chasing both Compost Direct (Karen will tell you it’s not their issue) and Woodrush (Dan the Operations Manager can not be trusted) and be told lies about when deliveries are arranged for and you will be given meaningless assurances.
Having stuck with Compost Delivery for many years enough is enough and I’m taking my custom elsewhere. You can try better prices and products from others in this market and with guaranteed delivery dates. Be warned - Do not use Compost Direct or Woodrush for you gardening works and go elsewhere.

I discovered Compost Direct on a search engine, ordered and received a bulk bag within days. This has now been spread and I’m looking forward to environmentally friendly weed control and moisture control. I’ve since ordered two more sacks as it looks great too!

This is just the best compost ever - had a delivery last year and produced a wonderful garden of dahlias, lupins and roses. So I bought another lot this year. Looking forward to another part of my garden blooming. And it looks great too

Very poor product. Ordered bulk bag of Border Gold which appears to be very poor quality top-soil mixed with a huge amount of sand. I'm now stuck with a huge bag of a product I don't wish to put on my garden.

I ordered eight bags of Black Gold and I am absolutely delighted with the quality. The service from ordering to receiving the product has been first class and each bag was placed exactly where I wanted it. It is expensive but you get what you pay for.
I will certainly buy again.

I ordered a bulk bag of their Veggie Pro bulk bag Compost (850L). I have been given the runaround by the Compost Direct Sales team & another company called Woodrush National Distribution. Firstly, I had to contact them regarding my delivery, then Woodrush advised my order had arrived at the local depot and would be delivered on Monday, 29th March 2021. Later in the afternoon confirmed delivery would be between 3 - 6pm. Nothing!! Telephoned the company Pegasus ? in Motherwell/Glasgow, they are supposed to be delivering my goods. They advised there was a health and safety issue with my delivery. They had been informed the load was only 500L when it was actually 850L. Emailed both Compost Direct and Woodrush, no reply from either of them!! Telephoned Pegasus again today, advised still the same issue with delivery, will contact me when they have an update. NO DELIVERY AGAIN TODAY!. I did read the reviews on TrustPilot before placing my order, but thought the majority were good and more positive than negative on the product. More fool me, their delivery service is shambolic. I ordered some Yorkshire stones 4 days after I placed my Compost Direct order and they are being delivered today. I have received updates and have not had to contact the company once!! I am now worried that the negative comments (although in the minority) about the product might be true. I will have wasted £120. I had planned to order more compost for my borders but not worth it to go through this hassle for a simple delivery.
UPDATE:-
Just received my delivery today, Wednesday, 31st March 2021.
The driver has parked his huge truck on the edge of my monoblock. No care or due attention!! Not happy with where my husband has asked him to leave the bulk bag. Right next to the road but on my monoblock!!! Why was that a problem? All he had to do was reverse his truck, no other obstructions!!

Then the driver can’t get his old dilapidated hand operated machine out from under the pallet!! He is scratching my monoblock to shreds!! My husband has had to go out and try and help him from doing more damage!!! This is totally unacceptable. Haven’t even looked at the product yet!!! Will definitely not be using this company again.
Further Update:-

My husband has just checked the compost! Like previous reviews. This isn’t quality compost. It is just full of rubbish. Any real nutrients in this product? very doubtful. I have requested the company arrange for the uplift of their product and requested a refund. I paid using Paypal, so if no joy from them. I will pursue with Paypal. One last thing, the pallet has snapped under the weight of the bulk bag, it was too small a pallet in the first place. They will now need a proper delivery firm to remove with a vehicle that has a crane!!! This is an awful company.

Having used Black Gold before, I ordered some this time for our community garden. Lovely product, can see everything perking up already.
This delivery was excellent - helpful delivery company and courier delivered exactly as required.

We had a delivery of Black Gold compost (850L). Ordering it was easy, and delivery was well organised. I had emails keeping me updated on progress, and a phone call to discuss delivery dates. Everything went as planned, and the compost delivery was put where I wanted it on the drive. The delivery guy managed it all in a professional and safe manner. I have used Compost Direct before and will use them again. And Black Gold is a wonderful product, it makes a huge difference to my sandy soil. Great service and great product!

Black Gold Compost

I recently purchased 2 bulk bags of Black Gold compost and found the quality to be excellent. It is superb stuff and I use it as a top mulch . Delivery was timely and the driver left it exactly where I wanted . All in all an excellent buying experience

Topsoil looks good and very black. There were some clay lumps in it, but not enough to worry me. The soil is now in place and I’ve mixed in some grit to assist with drainage. Planting will begin shortly.
The driver was very helpful and left the bag in a convenient location. I later noticed my neighbour inspecting it and taking notes.

Soil arrived within days. They put it exactly where I wanted it left. This is the second time I have used them and would use them again. Great service

Excellent. Beautiful black weighty and free draining topsoil. No rubbish and after waiting for good germinating conditions, no weeds either. Top class.

Veggie Pro compost
No topsoil in this. Just horrible yellow clay subsoil mixed with compost and/or peat. I didn't find out until it had been put in my new raised bed so too late to return. I have been trying to remove the larger lumps but it's a never ending task. Really upset. The delivery driver turned up with no notice but luckily I was at home and he left bag exactly where I wanted it
I was contacted by compost direct after leaving this review. They offered to send new bag of soil free. Unfortunately because we had emptied bag they would not remove what we had even though we refilled it. Didn't want to risk having TWO bags of subsoil so declined this offer. They then gave me refund of purchase price but I was left with cost of disposing of subsoil. Moral of story, check what you are sent carefully before emptying sack.

Very poor service. I cancelled my order as they told me they couldn’t deliver to my property, and they said they’d process my refund. They then turned up, got the lorry stuck and left the huge bag in the middle of the lane. And they never processed my refund. Do not use - there are far better more reliable companies around.

Just received my bulk bag of mulch. Very helpful office staff and delivery service was quick and efficient. Nice driver. Product ideal and will certainly order again in the future.

This was recommended to me by a neighbour last year and I decided getting a big bag was so much easier than dragging home 40-litre bags and often of differing quality, i.e. from different shops and of different makes.

It is a perfect product. Excellent quick advice about which compost to purchase (I went for the vegetable one).

Delivered very quickly and the driver was extremely helpful and delivery was on time. I will definitely buy this again.

This is the second time we have bought Black Gold from Compost Direct...Brilliant product, gives soil and plants such a boost

I have had Black Gold several years running from CD. Their service has always been excellent. Had a slight problem with missing compost from my order this time. This was rectified immediately in a most pleasant and helpful way. Delivery has always been prompt and reliable. I have no complaints at all and will be buying from them again. A great service.

Used this company several times before with no problems on delivery. This time the bag was dumped on the pavement without ringing the doorbell despite there being a completely empty drive. Good quality compost but unless they change their delivery suppliers won’t be using again.
