This was a complete waste of time and felt very unprofessional. I initially spoke with someone named Noah, who was reviewing my file and offered a Debt Management Plan (DMP) with a monthly payment of $X for 3.9 years. I explained that part of my unsecured debt has a low interest rate (6%), so I didn’t need to consolidate that portion. I also shared that I could use part of my savings to pay down about one-third of my total unsecured debt and only needed a DMP for the remaining higher-interest portion.
Instead of addressing this, Noah kept avoiding the topic and suggested transferring me to a senior colleague who could “better explain my options.” It became clear they weren’t interested in what worked best for me—they just wanted to push a one-size-fits-all solution. I explained why their recommendation didn’t make sense in my case, but he insisted on the DMP, even after I clarified that paying down the debt myself wouldn't incur extra interest or penalties, since it was an installment plan without early repayment fees.
Eventually, I was transferred to someone else who turned out to be a Licensed Insolvency Trustee (LIT), offering me a Consumer Proposal with monthly payments much higher than what other LITs had quoted. Then they tried to send me back to Noah, who had disappeared. The call dropped, and when I tried calling back, no one answered.
Overall, this experience felt more like dealing with creditors than with professionals who are supposed to help. Be cautious—they don’t seem to have your best interest in mind.
