I'd like to put some balance to these…

I'd like to put some balance to these reviews. Control4 is only as good as the team that you get to install it. Control4 is the hub of your Control. But you have to take into account that integrating with other platforms requires those other platforms to remain stable. You can't blame Control4 for not being able to watch the football, if in actual fact it's the sky box that needs a reboot. Almost all of the integration is done through IP, so it's no good getting the builder to lash some cables in and then find out your network and subsequently Control system is flakey. Choose your installer wisely, go and see their work. Talk to previous customers. Complaining about a system like this, shows a total lack of understanding about the system, and its complexities. There are some terrible house builders out there, but I'm sure we can agree, not all houses are bad.

Stay Away from C4!

We were told by our builder to use their company to install a theatre room, who told C4 was the only way to go. After 2 months of not being able to use the theatre room, we had a Best Buy tech come out and install a Harmony remote for a fraction of the cost! And the harmony remote worked great! Stay Away from C4 if possible!

We have two systems in our house

We have two systems in different parts of our house -- family room AV and media room AV. But with the Control4 iPhone app we are forced to have separate accounts and login/out whenever we want to change the system. What an awful User Experience.

Absolute garbage

Absolute garbage - I would give Control 4 zero stars if that were an option. Not a week has gone by in the three years since we’ve had this $100k system that I haven’t had to call in to have the system rebooted or have techs come out. I literally have only a 50/50 chance of watching TV or a movie when I want. Run away from this useless company.

WISH I HADNT BOTHERED

product ok - it does a fair bit but the interface is boring and not customiseable at all. worst of all the support is appalling. the companies who service c4 are arrogant, unreliable, unprofessional, fail to finish a job after charing upfront. i wish i never bothered. please dont dont dont waste your time with c4. its expensive, painful and frustrating.

Complete joke of a system

Complete joke of a system. Installed from new 2 years ago and has never worked correctly. Connections rarely connect and when they do they take a lifetime (not good when answering doorbells). To top it off, I found out today I can't open my gate or answer the doorbell without paying additional subcriptions that I don't want. Stay well clear.

Control4 - Give it a wide birth

The controller only works for maybe 2 seconds in a day. The installer told me it may be a weak connection. But when the receiver is only 2.5m from the remote, the response is bullsh1t.
The volume settings randomly sets other zones on and off and resets the volume control randomly.
The end user has to pay expensive fees for any simple changes such as default volume settings, renaming zones.
Lighting controls will not work when the TV is on. No timer settings for any zones.
Very basic functionality that does not work properly and very expensive.
Multiple other issues.
I had control4 installed in Perth in late 2022.
I will be looking to remove control4 and would recommend to give this product a miss. Not worth even spending time looking up this product.

Install Control4

Install Control4, 2 year ago with FM Stereo in Brantford. Has been nothing but a problem from day one. The system has to reset weekly and at times have to be shut down for the night. Have to unplug the TV weekly to reset. Music comes on without notice ( times in the middle of the night). Service call I guess are not covered under warranty but problem still persist. Would never recommend this system to anyone.

Works for Me

Ok Guys. I initially wrote a review posted on this chat on 12/1/23 (Jan 12, 2023).
And it was negative.
All I can say about this system, is, if properly installed FROM SCRATCH as in not retrofitted home or apartment, like I did with guidance from my dealer (who’s team have been unbelievably brilliant), is it’s an AMAZING system. Unbelievable. Maybe I’m one of the lucky ones, but seriously, since my post in Jan, I haven’t spoken to, or seen anyone from my dealer. My system just works

BEWARE

BEWARE! Save your$$$$ Many promises for functionality that never worked. We built a new home, builder recommended Control4 for security and home systems integration. It has been four years, MANY visits by technicians and calls with engineers. No results issues persist. we have finally given up will be moving to another provider.

Not recommend…

After spending over $100,000 upgrading our tech equipment so control 4 will function seamless the result is a flaky unreliable system. We never know when we are going to lose functionality eg. No lights, no theatre system. So stressful when planning a function.

Absolutely terrible

Absolutely terrible - every day there is a problem with the system randomly failing. Had it installed in our new build house 3 years ago and I cant remeber a period of more than a few days when it has worked properly and also seems to take other connected systems down. If you install this you will be tearing your hair out.

Poor value for money due to the exorbitant hardware replacement costs

I've had mixed experiences with the Control4 home automation system. When it's functioning properly, it offers impressive capabilities. However, I've found that when issues arise, the remedies are both time-consuming and costly. For the premium price I paid, I anticipated higher levels of reliability from both the software and hardware components. Unfortunately, within just under 3 years, I've already encountered significant problems. Two touchscreens, the T3 and T4, suffered from ghosting issues and failed entirely. Considering the units' steep cost (over $4,000 to replace both), this level of malfunction is truly disappointing. It's frustrating that devices with much lower price points have outlasted these high-end components. Having invested over $100,000 in my Control4 system, I can't help but feel shortchanged in terms of the value I've received. I extend an invitation to Control4 to address and explain these concerns.

C4 let done after 5 months no door bell

I have a great team of engineers, however the let this been with C4. I have a C4 door bell with the tens of thousands I have spent in C4 and yet they can’t help with resolving a technical fault that is on their side!

Previously I use get an email of someone rang my door bell. I was told that C4 can fix when my engineer is on site and on two occasions the engineer was on site but C4 could not sort this problem out. It is unfair on me that I once again have the engineer on site at my expense when the fault lies with C4. I have paid twice for the fix which never got resolved as even C4 haven’t got a clue what has gone wrong. If I had this facility for the last 7 years why would it just disappear! Another customer has had the same problem and yet he too is frustrated. I’m not sure why there is NO passion with C4 technical support team to establish the root cause and get this fixed. As a resolution i would expect C4 to either fix this now remotely at their expense, reimburse the costs of my further engineer visits as I can’t keep paying for repairs that they have not resolved and credit my 4sight licence as gesture as I can’t keep paying for technical help that C4 has yet to provide despite already 2 long visits by my engineer! As it is down to C4 to ensure that C4 customers are not treated in this unfair and unethical manner. Any other reputable FMCG brand would actually go out there way to assist the customer to get this resolved. In fact in my case let alone assisting me in fixing the problem at their cost now C4 has actually closed the complaint since last 5 months as an easy way not having to deal with this matter. I have spent tens of thousands and yet can’t get a simple door bell fixed !! Really upset and frustrated and disappointed!!

I purchased the complete Control4…

I purchased the complete Control4 system including their proprietary DVR system and Control4 Apmlifier, alarm equipment and much more. What a massive disappointment after spending over $20k. I have used 3 of their "approved" resellers to maintain the system. Extremely difficult to get service unless you are buying new equipment. I am located in the Atlanta area and there are some large distributors selling/servicing this equipment. Do yourself a favor and do plenty of research before making huge investment. Even the slightest modification or software update must be programmed by a 3rd party. Buyer beware.

This is not a good system

This is not a good system. It constantly loses its mind and you have to hard reboot for no reason at all. And I am saying this is a daily problem. This system is NOT recommended.

Control4 - Not Worth the $$. Not User-friendly.

Control4 was included with our new home in 2015. If I had known then, what I know now, I never would have wanted it. Always have to rely on a dealer for maintenance and troubleshooting and they would rather just sell you new hardware and upgrades. I have spent the last couple of years removing devices off of the C4 system and replacing them with better, and more user-friendly, off-the-shelf products.
