Very happy

We have had this control system for a month now and this work sextremely well for us. We only use it for watching television via a Roku box or an Apple TV or a DVD player or a regular tuner.

The system is buggy and clunky

The system is buggy and clunky eg searching for radio stations, grouping audio groups that then have different volumes you have to align before adjusting the overall group. When I minimise the app, after a minute it goes back to a Home Screen and takes about 4 clicks to change the audio volume again. It goes wrong fairly regularly requiring a controller reset. The doorbell functionality is a joke compared to Google, Ring, etc but double the price. I can’t see an overall view of the CCTV cameras for a major brand, I have to click into each one.
Maybe a big part is the installation but my answer to that is don’t have installers that aren’t high quality.

Biggest waste of money

Biggest waste of money! If I could give zero stars I would! I’ve had a control4 system for a year and have had nothing but continual problems. Once again, on a Friday night the whole system is down. I have no cameras, no music and no TV! It seems they pushed a new version update through this afternoon! Why do this on a Friday! Control4 has way too many bugs and is not reliable.

If you want to rely on a service tech…

If you want to rely on a service tech coming out each time the system decides not to work go ahead and buy it. You will need a tech about every 3 months. You cannot work on this system. You are locked out. NOT USER FRENDLY! Worst money spent on audio video. Most likely will rip it all out and replace it with something I can put in myself. Yes I bought it new. Use individual separate reliable systems for each TV audio systems etc. (Or a different brand). Anything I have put in the past worked flawless from day one to more than 15 years plus.

Complete utter garbage

Complete utter garbage. I spent more than 20k in audiovisual set up mlre than 3 years ago. I'm tech savvy and the system is extremely finicky. Rarely works as intended despite having the techs come in more than 6 times. If it's not a lag in functions, it's inability to stream music, issues with security cameras, or some other issue. DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT USE THIS SYSTEM. Even my Alexa is more reliable.

Probably better than a sharp stick in the eye!

We just moved from the beaches of San Diego and purchased an 8000+ sf, 10 yr. old home in the Winston Salem area. The home is quality plus and has an all function Control 4 system that I don't know anything about it. It's supposed to control about 15 outdoor lights, door bell, hugh movie screen set up, etc. and nothing is working? After trying to find a service person, I stumbled onto the reviews and WOW, guess I will need to replace the whole monster with a better solution.

Miserable experience with Control4

Miserable experience with Control4. We installed this at a new build vacation home and every time we go there, it seems something else has broken or stopped working with the Control4 equipment. We used to be able to load our own music on the system as MP3's, etc. However, after an update, our dealer tells us that is no longer supported, so we need to call him anytime we want to add music! We would need to schedule a costly service appointment for what is the equivalent of changing a CD or album. When it stops working, we can't use video or audio until we get our dealer out to the house. The interface is slick, when it works, but it stops working all the time. It is very frustrating. If you get locked into a dealer that is not solutions oriented, you are stuck with a really expensive stack of junk.

I have control 4 in my personal home and I absolutely love it.
I also install it in about 20 homes per year for my customers. Most of them tell me they would not do it again. It seems to be a direct correlation between those who use it daily (like me) and those who don’t. Daily users love it. People who occasionally want to use it get frustrated when it doesn’t work like they perceive it should. This is based on over 100 systems.

Learn from my mistake with Control 4 - AVOID

I had control4 installed on Sunshine Coast, Australia. I had a bit of a look at the components before purchase and was trying to thread the ground lightly as they felt and smelt like low quality under a thin rubber skin. The feeling of the product was like a low quality aliexpress product but with rubber coating to make it nice to touch. I had the system installed on my compatible projector and yamaha amp plus Fetch TV. Paid the installer over $8k for labour alone. I have had never ending problems. projector would not come on, then it would switch off by itself. Lamp was blamed, disconnected the C4, projector worked as normal, called their helpline and got told they are the biggest and the best and its probably problem with my hardware. felt ignored to say the least. Next week the installer changed the settings, projector started behaving better. Following week, lights controlled by C4 stopped working. C4 installer found to have little knowledge about their system with their support needed constantly on numerous call outs. Imagine night time and no lights in the main living area. Came back the next day. Pure lottery. Avoid like a plague. We are considering removing the system all together based on the experience. We also run ubiquity at home and haven't had dramas. Hope one can learn on our mistake. As a small developer I promised myself to use better quality and more stable equipment.

I agree with all the negative reviews

I agree with all the negative reviews. Thousands upon thousands of dollars only to be held hostage by service technicians claiming that it's ALWAYS your fault when something goes wrong and why you ALWAYS NEED TO KEEP SPENDING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS after the fact keeping the system operational. There is nothing worse than the feeling of being held hostage and that's exactly how I feel ever time I have to deal with this system including the technicians that oversee the system.

I Have Spent Approximately $43,000.00 In Total On Control4 And It Continues NOT To Work And Cost Me Thousands In Technicians To ATTEMPT To Repair It…

I have had Control4 in my home for approximately 9 years, it is a never ending source of frustration and a money pit that NEVER stops taking thousands of dollars in just support to fix. I was stupid enough to continue to upgrade the components in the “hopes” that they would work, the bugs would be gone etc. I had JUST replaced/upgraded a main component right before COVID-19 hit. Then of course there was no field support nor did I want people in the house as I had a life threatening disease that I had been fighting for 3.5 years and my immune system was compromised. I have spent approximately $43,000.00 on a system that does NOT work, but it does something consistently and beautifully which is cause a lot of stress, angst, anger within the home, just what everybody wants! 3 winters ago because the doors would not unlock after coming gone from a Christmas party at 1:30am (I do not drink or take any drugs, so there is none of that issue with operating the system correctly) it was 34 degrees outside, I was forced to strip down totally naked outside and slide myself diagonally through the dog door while scraping and peeling the skin off in 3 places on my back and chest to gain access to my home! We just returned from Florida where we purchased property and will begin construction on a new home in January 2022. We arrive home in Virginia at 04:15 in the morning after a 12.5 hour drive and AGAIN approximately 85% of the Control4 items do NOT work! What an amazingly nice way to come back home after an exhaustive trip…

Very expensive and unreliable

Very expensive and unreliable, I have problem with the system at least once or twice a year, every time I call they charge me over $250, last year I paid over a $1000.00 to upgrade my software, and it was a very expensive system to begin with over $70,000.00, they can simply sign to my system remotely change something and I have to pay to fix it, they can upgrade my system remotely if there is a glitch, I have to pay for it to fix, Can you imagine paying almost $50.00 a month just for fixing and upgrading of your lighting system and door bell, and if you like to be able to view your camera or do anything remotely you have to pay a monthly fee on top of everything else. system does not worth it, I am sure soon will be replaced with a cheaper and better system. I like someone from head office to contact me and let me know why do I have to pay all these fees.

I have experience so many glitches and interruptions. Having used Nest and Waze products, which are so consumer/user friendly, you really need to improve the end-user experience. Reliance/dependency of the original installer is unacceptable and and unnecessary hassle.
