Great service and lovely cottage

just returned from Orial cottage in St Agnes. what a lovely cottage.
it was clean and well presented. We loved the welcome pack. i contacted Cornwall Hideaways twice during our break due to heating and some ants. both times we had a visit within a couple of hours to sort it out, which we were pleased with especially as one of the days was a bank holiday.

Awful company

Awful company - Do yourself and your mental health a favour and look elsewhere.

This company shouldn’t be allowed to do business. They offer properties that are in no way maintained or fit for living, however, when you try and complain about it they simply quote some legal technicality that means they don’t have to do anything about it.

Stayed in a property in Lelant which was run down and down right dangerous. Slabs outside the house were not suitable for cars yet were being used as a driveway. They were severely cracked, posing a serious danger to both cars and the people walking on them. The house was filthy. No idea why there’s a 6 hour delay in guests leaving and being able to enter the property again, as it seems no work is done within this time period.

When we contacted Cornwall hideaways to raise our concerns it took the owners two weeks to reply. They told us they don’t have gaps in bookings to do the much need house maintenance yet they’re still willing to rent the property out for 1200 a week. Instead they expect you to allow people in to the property on your stay so you can get these jobs fixed. Why is this the guest’s responsibility? I can’t imagine the people that own the property would be willing to stay there themselves. Not sure when the last time they even visited it was!

Utterly disappointed as the location is beautiful. Could have been avoided if the people who own the property had any pride in their own house. Also, Cornwall hideaways needs to do better with protecting its customers. Stop renting out these awful run down places and do better at making sure owners are held to account and actually maintain their properties. Also your customer support is dire. It seems they will do anything to avoid having to give any sort of compensation or take any form or responsibility.

Will be coming back to Cornwall as it’s home away from home. Hopefully the next place we stay won’t have more cobwebs than a haunted house 😆

Avoid ... Cleanliness not evident!

Returned from a week's stay at Rose - in - Vale cottage, Mithian, Cornwall 'managed' by 'Cornwall Hideaways'.
First impressions ... a lovely, idyllic cottage in a picturesque part of Cornwall (Mithian, St. Agnes) .... however sadly the impressions ended there! On entering the cottage we found that it clearly hadn't been cleaned for some time - it was musty, cobwebs abounded, crockery was dusty with some kitchen utensils unwashed with pasta left on them, the dishwasher stank like a sewer, the sugar & coffee containers looked like their contents had been in there for years, flagstone floors splashed with stains and the general cleanliness of the cottage was awful! The small 'welcome' pack containing biscuits and coffee/tea was scant 'reward' for poor standards of cleanliness and housekeeping.
The cottage is marketed as being able to accommodate 8 people however the furniture seating in both the upstairs lounge and dining areas only allows for a lesser number than 8 which means as a family you cannot eat and socialise all together. The outside areas and patio furniture also needed a good sweep and tlc whilst the patio windows were smeared and dusty with cobwebs everywhere. It was evident that the managing agent's cleaner(s) hadn't visited the cottage for some time albeit the bedroom linen and towelling were the only things we felt were up to a required standard! By necessity we were compelled to eat out every day during our stay as the oven also disgustingly hadn't been cleaned prior to our holiday.
We contacted 'Cornwall Hideaways' on the same day as our arrival (after 4pm Saturday) via emails to be then informed we ought to have raised our concerns through their out of service telephone number as soon as we got there - even though their agent, Jade Dingle, responded to our emails outside of business hours on the Monday! She contacted us after our initial email to advise that a cleaner could come in during our stay but we felt this imposed on our holiday (we also have dogs) so declined the offer. Further contact with the company to seek compensation for the unkempt nature of the property was met with the standard 'read the booking criteria' blah blah blah and then finally we had an insultory offer of 'two bottles of wine' for our 'patience and understanding' (supposedly from the owner)... which we again declined!
We certainly won't be renting any property from this company again having used other companies on four separate occasions previously when holidaying in Cornwall and to date have had no problems with standards of cleanliness and housekeeping until this one. There is no 'Guests Comments' book in the property to record holidaymakers feedback, good or bad - we were told the book was removed post Covid ... ?? Conveniently, 'Cornwall Hideaways' only use the website 'Feefo' for customer feedback, unfortunately customers have to be invited to write a review on this site, therefore if your comments are not positive you obviously wont be invited to leave a review!
Having paid nearly £1,400 for a week's stay this is certainly not good value for money given the dire standards of cleanliness and attention to detail. In addition, the lack of empathy and dismissive attitude from 'Cornwall Hideaways' Jade Dingle (Property Services Coordinator) left much to be desired .... pull your socks up Cornwall Hideaways, this frankly wasn't good enough!
ps after inspecting the beds we found soo much dust on the bed frames and stains on the pillowcases, we were compelled to ring 'Cornwall Hideaways' to complain and try to get some cleaners in to sort out yet another problem! Annoyingly we received a voice message on our phone stating our message hadn't been fully recorded and to ring back! In any case, cleanliness or the lack of it, isn't deemed an 'emergency' by 'Cornwall Hideaways' and a couple in our party had had enough so departed early for home ...! We've left post it style notes for the cleaners to pick up on as this cottage and its contents needs a damn good clean ...!

Bitterly disappointed

Beautiful location/setting.

We had the start of our special Wedding holiday week holiday ruined, simply over a lack of communication between the holiday letting agent and their appointed cleaning company.

This lack of communication meant we could not access one of the booked properties, (Sunflower) at our allotted time.

After a call to the letting agent, they did call the cleaner, only to send one cleaner out! So, after a 2 hour wait, we gained access! This delay seriously impacted our plans.

We were lucky we booked two cottages (Sunflower and Rose) only to the party size. So, we sat as a family outside the other property (Rose) whilst we waited for the cleaner to finish, real bonus we had somewhere to put our perishable shopping purchases, not sure what we would have done if we had not that property.

Right, let's balance the review.

The letting agent.

1. The letting agent did offer compensation , you may think great, but it came with a time restriction. We were expected to go and take a meal for 6 people either that evening the day of arrival or the next day.
2. This Wedding week was planned over 2 years ago and the properties booked over a year ago, yes, we booked two. Same person booked them and consecutive booking numbers.
3. We had just travelled for 7 hours and one of the party was a 95-year-old, all they wanted to do was rest.
4. So, we had no chance in taking up the offer on the day of arrival or even the following day, simply as this was the day/night before the Wedding, and the party had other more pressing commitments.
5. As such this offer then expired.

The cleaning company.

1. Cleaner arrived to clean the 3-bed property.
2. Only one cleaner was dispatched.
3. We gained access after 6pm, two hours later than expected.
4. Asked if we wanted a drink, we were given four mini samples of gin.
5. The cleaning company on Saturday provided a continental breakfast.

After staying at this location on numerous occasions prior, the one time it needed to be 100% it wasn’t, and we as the Wedding party still feel upset.

Average cottage in Portreath (with added builders)

Staying at one of their cottages in Portreath...

The cottage had extremely basic provisions (for example: no salt, or condiments of any kind?), no mirrors in the house apart from one small one in the bathroom. No wheelie bin or instructions on what to do with our rubbish, we had to ask a local to find out what we do. No hooks for hanging up towels or gowns. Bed linen was low quality, and mattresses weren't much better. There were builders working on next doors garden, which meant they were head height for the back bedroom, there was no warning there would be people working there, so it was noisy during the day and intrusive if looking to get changed. The TV situation seemed odd as if you don't have access to streaming services, there was no TV, would've thought you'd at least have freeview for basic channels for those that don't want to use sign ins when away.

On the plus side the cottage was clean and in a good location for walks, parking was good, on a no through road so there wasn't much traffic.

Overall, not worth the price that was paid, and wont be staying again

Widgeon Watch, Lelant.

We stayed at Widgeon Watch in Lelant.
Lovely property with everything we needed and the added bonus of parking which is hard to find in St Ives.
The welcome gift was a lovely addition.
Would highly recommend the short walk to the train station lovely coastal ride into St Ives.
Also The old forge bistro.. again a short walk. We had the most delicious meals.
All in all a super property with the most comfy bed I’ve ever slept in so much so the lovely Harriet from Cornwall hideaways has been super helpful in trying to find out what we slept on so I can purchase one for home.

Will definitely be booking again!

Dirty, run down and terrible customer service

2 Silvershell View Port Isaac
What a shame, this house is in the most beautiful spot with the most stunning view but inside it’s dirty and in need of some serious tlc. The carpets were filthy, stained and full of previous guest owners dog hair. The walls were in desperate need of a re paint as they were full of marks, scratches and splashes. The patio set outside wasn’t any better. Rusty and rotting in places.
When we arrived at the property so did the cleaners so we left them too it as we arrived a little earlier than the check in time. There were 4 cleaners in total and they weren’t in there more than 20 minutes. We could see why. The carpets didn’t look like they’d been hoovered, crisp packets and old receipts were found under the furniture when trying to retrieve something, there were cobwebs everywhere and the place just smelt fusty and in need of a proper clean as well. The decor is very dated and old fashioned. It’s a shame the owner/owners are charging the rental fee they are knowing it’s in such a state.
The view on the decking is beautiful but that’s it unfortunately. Definitely better places can be found for the same price.

After contacting the letting agents we got a standard reply of ‘thanks for your feedback, we’ll try and do better next time’ ! clearly they won’t seen as very similar complaints have been left over the past couple of years.

Avoid and stay elsewhere.

Falsely accused of damage and leaving…

Falsely accused of damage and leaving mess after finding the house in an utterly grim state from the off. The owner of the property we have just returned from clearly takes pride in it. However, in her absence, the agents are hugely letting her down.
The cleaner was still there when we arrived after 4pm pretending to mop which was very strange. Then once inside the place was filthy. Only a handful of plates here and there, all in disarray. The only toilet roll in each bathroom was already half used. We didn't even set foot in the games room (much to my disappointment!) due to a great big rotten hole at the door entrance and the fact that it was too dangerous for the older ladies in our group. 3 toilets wouldn't stop flushing and one of the showers wouldn't switch off. One of the rooms was still boarded up after storm eunice 4 and a half months ago with no opening window for fire escape. They have claimed to email me about this but have yet to show me that mail.
Snot on the windows EVERYWHERE and some on the walls. Thick dust, hair balls. I could go on and on.
A plumber came over to look at a tap while we were there and we pointed out the toilet and shower to which he agreed there was an issue. He said the owner does not cut corners so must not be aware. I told him we'd let her know of some of the issues for her information.
I later mentioned some of the issues over the phone to Cornwall hideaways.
Then today I have an email from them accusing us of damage to the floor and leaving a lot of glass in the games room.... The room we didn't so much as unlock the door to! It seems that attack may be the first form of defence in this case as this is ENTIRELY fabricated.
All I had in Response to the issues we had was that there's a maintenance man who didn't mention anything and that their 'inspection' team had already taken a look and deemed the house fine before we arrived. Oh, well I guess that's OK then. Even though I've sent them images of the filth and they've acknowledged it. I guess this just means that they think it's OK to put people up in that!
And then to be accused in an outright lie of damage? I can only imagine this was to discredit us to the owner before we complained. I'm totally shocked!

I have just returned from a weeks stay…

I have just returned from a week's stay at Bridge Cottage Devoran and I am very disappointed. The disinterest and poor customer service shown by the agents may be due to the fact the owners are selling the property but this does not excuse them. Cornish Hideaways didn't seem to give a damn; they had taken my money £1,500 and the issues were not resolved.
It was shabby, the touch points had not been cleaned even though their COVID policy promised they would be, they were full of dirty finger marks, the tv room was damp, neither bathroom was in fully working order, blocked shower, a toilet which took 40 mins to fill and a tap which we were unable to turn off. The plumber was unable to fix the plumbing issues during our stay and the maintenance man agreed the property was not to standard, he couldn't supply new crockery but did unblock the shower when he removed a thick 6 inch hair plug - which was revolting. The crockery supplied included 5 chipped dinner plates
5 chipped bowls
4 chipped side plates
Badly cracked rectangular dish
2 Small cracked bowls
3 chipped mugs
I think I should have been offered some recompense due to the poor standard offered. I would never use this company again.Michelle Marsh

Magpie Cottage- St Teath

Magpie Cottage- St Teath, Cornwall

A well appointed cosy cottage situated at a crossroads on the very busy B3314 near Port Gaverne.
It has a large garden, but with little privacy.
With our booking, “Cornwall Hideaways” misrepresented the “comprehensive” nature of a welcome hamper that was offered, which turned out to be little more than a gift box of tea, coffee, biscuits and fudge. This was very disappointing. They have since corrected their website.
The property would benefit from instructions for appliances and a bread knife.

Excellent company right from the start when Joanne helped sort out a tricky booking. The property we stayed in was the best we have had, beautifully equipped and clean, plus a great welcome pack. Would definately use them again when going to Cornwall.

Super helpful and professional

Joanne couldn’t have been more helpful; due to Lockdown holiday cancelled twice but company has kept us very well informed. Sadly couldn’t find a compatible date for the third attempt and offered a full refund.

Next time will deal directly with Cornwall Hideaways and give Airbnb a miss!

Thanks Joanne.
