This is a great company.....
This is a great company.....if you want your home undervalued by at least 40k. Absolute cowboys, ignored their valuation got a different company who valued correctly and sold property for market value.
Avoid these idiots at all costs!!!!!
Positive review
Had I have read these reviews before booking a survey I don't think I'd have chosen countrywide however the surveyor (Alan Cooper) that came out to complete our survey was fab. Lovely and polite when in our property and due to lease restrictions I had to go back for further advice a number of times - again, very helpful yet professional.
Countrywide - terrible service
Terrible service from Countrywide so not surprised to see these reviews. They have cancelled 2 surveys at short-notice, asked the same questions about the property (both online and on telephone) several times and are now suggesting that they don't have an appt for another 3 weeks. Customer service gives inconsistent messages. Have asked my potential mortgage provider to re-issue to another surveyor as I'm now risking entire re-mortgage process being delayed. Avoid!
ACCOUNTABILITY?? Rogue reports!!
In May 2025 we had a man from Countrywide surveyors visit our property to undertake a survey.
We believe his report hindered the sale of our house. We have since found out some vital information that was included in the report he made which has now led us to ask questions about the service being providing and the accountability when it comes to identifying possibly issues. His report doesnt equally and fairly reflect the bricks and mortar of the house. Certain examples he used where potential future work maybe necessary were hugely over inflated when described in the report. This leads us to question the integrity and reliability of this surveyor. What is the bench mark / guidelines when creating these reports? It feels to us as if he went rogue, made up his own guidelines and he determined himself how he would word the report and ultimately chose to over emphasise, causing is to loose our buyer. Do they audit these surveyors? This is the main concern.
It seems they can write what they like and create embellished issues just to justify the fees the buyer has paid. Large parts of the report do not translate fairly to the property.
Dados man was rude in his manner. Having a small old baby in the house, I asked him to remove his shoes once entering our property. He removed them once but then put them back on and proceeded to march back and fourth on the ground floor of our home. This shows a major lack respect and was a red flag on his behaviours at the time. In hindsight I should have terminated the appointment and rescheduled with someone else. Having asked him to do this one small request, seemed to bother him and in turn has he created an over embellished report on his own judgement without realising our buyer would share this information with us upon request.
I have asked for his report to be reviewed because the findings he produced vs the reality did not reflect accurately. This is a very serious matter.
The whole process is a joke
They sent a weird surveyor. He walks into the house and stays for less than 3 minutes and looks at nothing and refuses to go into the roof to look properly. He reports that there is damp in the house and something about the roof. He ruins the sale and makes the buyer to have a go at our estate agents.
I talked to a professional who said, proof of damp requires a damp meter, and my roof is good.
I also talked to a lawyer friend who promised to investigate the company and the surveyor, whom I know his name. and see why are they allowed to continue, after all these bad reviews and reports. Add to that is the question of why the governmental body and the regulating body of surveyors, including the banks, allow such a company and its surveyors to continue to ruin the sales of people's houses without any legal consequences.
Maz is a meticulous surveyor
My initial experience was with an offhand surveyor who did the survey then lost the report. Another surveyor Maz did the survey and report and did an amazing job. Thank you so much Maz. You are the reason I gave 4 stars. You personally are 5 stars but the score came down because of the overall experience. Thank you Maz. They should give you a bonus.
When the man turned up to survey my…
When the man turned up to survey my house he said my house was only worth 265,000 in the local area and my house are worth 425,000 in he's report he was more concerned of saying this could happen or that could happen there was no evidence of damp under the floor boards on the ground floor there was no smell he said it could be dry rot there was no evidence there could be he did not pull the carpet back to find out he said there was no felt going into the gutter I asked him if he wanted to ladder he said he don't do ladders I took photos of the Gutter and there was felt leading into it he said I had asbestos in the loft and I called British Gas they confirmed it was not asbestos to get a company to save may be this maybe that is unprofessional I would stay well clear of this company and I do not understand why they are still operating thank you to them I have lost my buyer and the chain as fell apart
AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Would give none - surveyor was instructed to go and value a property and complete Home Buyer report in December 2024 - went and refused due to possessory title which I and the lender already knew about and had evidence to confirm circumstances.
The 'surveyor' has then been booked a further 2 times to go out and complete valuation and Home Buyer Report - first time he rocked up 2 days prior to arranged appointment and the had the cheek to have an attitude with Estate Agent when HE had shown up 2 days before the scheduled appointment. Third time he called up day before and refused to do it as he's previously gone out to property - joke the lot of them! Why lenders use this poor excuse of a company I will never know. AVOID 'experts' I know more intellectual 2 year old than the clowns that work at this company!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS
A surveyor attended my house for a mortgage valuation for my buyer. Very efficient and matched the value of the RICS survey. Was pleased with the service.
Mortgage expired and required an up to date valuation. A man was sent out and down valued my property by £25,000 causing me to lose my buyer.
Had a RICS survey done and proved the property was the original price and countrywide had down valued my property.
Have spoken to 3 local estate agents who have all reported him by name saying he has done the same thing over and over causing multiple people to lose their sales and purchases.
has caused me to lose my sale and purchase with a 3 week old baby.
They have also emailed and threatened legal action if I continue to write negative reviews.
AVOID AVOID AVOID Valuation from…
AVOID AVOID AVOID Valuation from Countrywide Surveyors
I am not one to leave reviews for any company but had to in this situation. I had a valuation for a remortgaging of a buy to let property which was £30,000 less than the value of the property despite being conservative with our estimate. This value was also significantly less than what the property was valued at the last remortgaging 2 years ago. It is not a big house, so £30,000 drop in equity is throwing away years of investment down the drain. The valuation was absord as there has been consistent increase in house prices in Norwich over the last two years; averaging at 4.8% and 5.5% respectively. So reporting a value indicating a loss in value in the last two years is not agreeable especially as maintenance standards has been consistent.
If your surveyor is called Gareth in Norwich, please refuse the valuation. It was a shocking and time wasting experience for me, even for my mortgage broker (who also did the last remortgaging) was shocked to see such valuation report.
Down valued to £0
Instructed to complete a mortgage valuation on behalf of HSBC.
They valued the property at £0 and said it is not habitable despite there being a separate valuation already on file for £500,000.
The property was let until October 2024 and is in fair condition. It isn't great but it has a bathroom and kitchen. It just needs updating.
Refused to engage in any discussion about it and the surveyor never called me back.
They even had the cheek to call me asking if I want to pay them extra and do a building survey too...
Do not use
Absolute muppets devalued my property by £22000 for no reason, having no prior knowledge of the housing market in the area stay away.
Awful company
Awful company. Unprofessional substandard survey and missed so much.
We all deserve better!
Making a complaint against them is extremely stressful and overwhelming but thankfully The Property Rights Alliance helped me navigate the system .
DO NOT USE
DO NOT USE.
We have paid over the odds time and time again because of how incompetent this company are. There customer service is non existent and they refuse to do RICS extensions or desktop valuations.
Countrywide need investigation…
Countrywide need investigation nationwide simple as that. Crooks who are conning Tenants and homeowners alike don't use them find a reputable company Countrywide and Slater Hogg owned by another crooked company called Connells Group.
Should be brought to account and soon. If anyone cared the lot would have been out of business years ago. Cover up merchants for other dodgy landlords they manage. Time someone at Connells started to provide answers. Anyone with issues with this rotten to the core company should inform their local councils MP and Councillors. Housing in the UK is dreadful to say the least.
Horrendous company
Horrendous company, they contacted me as the seller almost a week ago and said they'd be over on Wednesday but were unable to tell me a time, apart from it being between 8-3. Less than 24 hours before I contacted and asked again about the time, they told me they couldn't tell me still and would message me at 6pm the night before. Told them we couldn't wait around for the time and they simply couldn't care less. Awful customer service, not very professional and certainly not considerate of your time. ...poor.
Complaints system not fit for purpose
The complaints system at Countrywide Home Surveys and the body set up to protect property buyers are not fit for purpose. I followed the whole procedure through the company and then through CEDR and RICS about my poor quality survey based on which I bought a property which has cost me several thousand pounds in urgent repairs. I requested a senior surveyor to carry out a second inspection after wasting hours of time being asked to submit more and more evidence. The final insult from the adjudicator is to say I do not even merit an apology from Countrywide. This is a matter of public concern which needs further investigation and scrutiny by the media. I would not even give this company 1 star but there is no option to give 0.
Surveyor didn’t like the fact I rang…
Surveyor didn’t like the fact I rang the office because I wondered if he was still going to attend our property at the allocated time (it was one minute until
the allocated time was over) which is fine but I’d waited in all morning and wanted to ask the question. Paul Shawcross came across rude and arrogant. He proceeded to undervalue the property which I had a feeling he would. He questioned why I had rang the office to ask if he was still attending. I think I got to his ego… anyway we then went with another company who valued the property over our asking price, they were not rude and arrived in plenty of time. Overall I’d avoid this surveyor.
AVOID IT AT ALL COST
AVOID IT AT ALL COST! The surveyor was unprofessional, rude and aggressive. This is not acceptable!! Their valuation was driven by nasty behaviour and it doesn't reflect the true value of the Property. avoid avoid avoid¡!!!!!!!!
RETREIVING DEPOSIT FROM BAIRSTOW EVES/COUNTRYWIDE
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY OR BAIRSTOW EVES. NEVER AGAIN. As a Landlord my tenant had to give a deposit of £801 via the estate agent Bairstow Eves who found a tenant for the sum of around £500. I now know that Bairstow Eves is OWNED BY COUNTRYWIDE, which is part of the Connells group. The tenants ran away after trashing the house and owing 3 months rent. So I required the deposit. First I had to track down that it was held by Countrywide which was not what was on the tenancy agreement. I spoke to head office and they wouldn't take responsibility and passed me back to the local Bairstow Eves office that had organised the letting of my property. They wanted me to get a CCJ against the tenant. It took 3 months and cost £125 but I did it. Then they said they needed proof that the tenant hadn't paid. Then they wanted proof that I had contacted the tenant 4 times. Then they wanted receipts for remedial and cleaning work which I had done. They kept finding hurdles and made it as difficult as possible. I started to get more threatening with the company and was close to going to the OMBUDSMAN. They then agreed to pay the deposit to me but then wanted me to sigh an INDEMNITY organised by them for the cost of £60. I did this. so after several months they finally paid to my bank account £801 which cost me £185 in legal costs and a great deal of hassle to retrieve. The fact that the tenants had breached the agreement by running away owing 3 months rent should have been enough. But BAIRSTOW EVES/ COUNTRYWIDE wanted much more. They did their utmost to hang on to the deposit and to keep it in their account. THIS COMPANY NEEDS TO BE SORTED OUT BY THE OMBUDSMAN FOR UNFAIR PRACTICES. DO NOT USE.
