Unnecessary ID verification/I do not look like a typical Utahn

I have been a customer for several years. Today I went to the Cyprus Credit Union located on 3876 Center View Way, West Jordan, UT 84084. I went in to open a business checking account and the service was alright but it felt like the branch questioned my identity. I was about to leave with the form I needed to fill to start their process, but prior to my leaving I was asked to “update” my ID in the system (they may have been checking to see if it was valid) which I did, but I know my ID was already validated as I just received a new debit card and recently opened a CD with the credit union (different branch) which checks a person’s ID, all in the month of April. This encounter has me question if some employees, at the aforementioned West Jordan branch, actually see people or do they see what they think and make their judgement?

Stay away from this Credit Union

Stay away from this Credit Union. They are great as long as you don't have an emergency or travel anywhere. Never had problems with it, until they made a bad dream into an absolute nightmare. I have banked with them for probably 7 or 8 years. I have always been pleased with their service, until I traveled overseas.

I lost my debit cards at the same time. I called them and asked them to send me some new ones rushed. I was able to use my google wallet to pay many places, but a lot of places don't accept google wallet. Several places you need cash. I wasn't able to do a moneygram or anything because I didn't have the 3 digit security code on the back. So getting cards sent was of utmost importance. I ask them if the person watching my house can come to the branch and pick them up, nope they can't do that. They have to be mailed. They said sure we can get you cards to Kyiv in 3 to 5 business days. Well I am staying at an Airbnb, that doesn't even have a mailbox, because you know... permanent airbnb's don't usually receive mail. I asked if they could send it care of to a friends business. Nope It has to be sent to my name. Ok I get it. So rush them to my house, then the exact same person they won't let them pick up at the branch, can open the mail, take a picture and send to to me.... So much for their overprotective security measures. 3 to 5 business days not a problem. Well 5 business days come and go no cards....

Meanwhile, I am using Google pay at an establishment that I have used my cards at, at least 100 times in the past year, with no problems, gets flagged as FRAUD. Yup you read that right, FRAUD. There hasn't been any issues with fraud and my cards for the past year and probably a hundred transactions at this establishment, but now it's FRAUD!!! Really????? So here I am no cash, no card, and no way to pay a $500 bill. They send me a text asking if it is fraud, I say no. They send me an email, once again I say no. Still declined. This is a Sunday, so I can't get a hold of anyone who can help. They are about to call the police on me and here it could easily be 6 months or more in jail before you see a judge, forget any chance for a phone call. Luckily for me there was another American veteran in the establishment that paid for me.

So now it is 10 days after they were supposed to send the cards out. I call them. Keep in mind phone calls cost me 25 cents a minute, and earlier in this trip, they kept declining my Uber charges for FRAUD too. So I had been making calls then to. I am now to the point where dealing with Cyprus and being put on hold has racked up over 100 dollars in phone charges. When I call them, they say oh they shipped out on the 13th... almost a full week after they said they were going to "RUSH" them. Later they call back and say, oh the problem was, they weren't rushed. We are going to have them rushed out this afternoon, which means, another 3 to 5 business days. Wonderful.... I have to catch a bus back to Warsaw, for a flight home in 4 business days. Guess what... the bus service doesn't take gpay... I need cash... I can't get cash because I don't have a card to send it moneygram. I can' do a bank transfer for moneygram but those take about 5 days. I would have done that originally, if I would have known, that Cyprus Credit union considers 15 working days, a RUSH!

So almost 6 months in jail.... most likely missing my bus and flight home, no money or cash for the last 2 weeks, because Cyprus didn't click the RUSH button. They can't let the exact same person who is going to open the mail and take a picture of the card, actually pick the card up, which would have saved me over 100 dollars, a huge headache, rescheduling airline fees, extra stay at the airbnb fees. Apparently they would rather risk their customers going to Jail, than actually helping their customers out. COPULATE THIS BANK!

Then I actually get home. So I am in the states. With my actual card in hand now. Try ordering some flowers for delivery.... DECLINED! Fraud. Make several telephone calls and over two hours on phone calls.... DECLINED FRAUD.

Then I get a call from the COO telling me I should be nicer to his employees. Ignoring the fact, I was nice the first 30 times I called and the first 100 dollars I spent in international roaming fees. Apparently, the incompetence starts at the top and fizzles down. Sounds like if the Credit Union would have fixed the problem before I almost went to jail.... I wouldn't have had a reason not to be nice.
