After staying at Danhostel for 3 months…
After staying at Danhostel for 3 months (solo room) my experience has been:
The location = 10/10
You could not pick a better location.
The reception and bar staff = 15/10
Nothing but a kind and helpful reception. I believe they are the rock of Danhostel.
For a stressful time being rehoused, they really made my stay much better.
The bar is suprisingly great for it's size.
The cleaning = 5/10
The cleaning staff is fast and effective, but unfortunately I experienced several times them walking in on on me while I wasn't ready. They knock but either can't hear or ignore when you ask them to wait a sec. They do not speak English. They are extremely kind though.
The room = 7/10
Everything about the room is great and would have given a 10/10 was it not for the bad sound isolation. People walking or talking in the room above you is a real hazzle. The sound is really loud. The towels, bed sheets, the view, the bathroom etc. are perfect.
Kitchen, laundry and elevators = 8/10
Kitchen is more than great, but be prepared for guests not respecting the facilities unfortunately.
Laundry machines broke often and used too much soap, leaving soap residue on clothes. But a great temporary solution.
The programs of the dryers are poorly programmed. Only program that would actually dry clothes was the 'Time' program, choosing 1½ hour drying.
Elevators are fast and quick, but often mishandled by the school kids that were there. A better system for prioritising longer-visit people or something could have been better. Sometimes it would take 20 minutes to get down or up, if a school had just arrived.
All in all it was a really great stay. Will definitely come back.
