Positive's: There was a quick response to all my communications with good interaction and they successfully recovered my data.
Negative's: I was quoted online around £400 (estimated) but the lowest price after their initial look was £650 + VAT but felt that my data was worth this and had to have it recovered really. Although they did have to re build the electronics drive for the platters in the spinning drive. It turned out to be £ £870 + VAT so totalling to £1077 plus another drive to put the data on.

In summary, this was an very expensive lesson I learnt, I should make sure things are backed up online as well as to another drive.

I was also very suppressed that they offered a replacement drive that was of the spinning type instead of a solid state drive, spinning drives are getting to be obsolete nowadays and there was only a small price difference of about £30 to have a more secure option which I provided to them from SCAN.

On the whole they did a very good job to repair and recover all my data and I am very grateful to what they managed to do. The were very helpful over the phone and were very polite. Although the time they keep the recovered data on there server for was very short and I think this should be extended for a month and not 7 days from receipt of the drive from them.

I was prompted to write this review, but I have given my honest review of the work carried out.

After receiving the failed (M.2 format) drive, I read that these drives can fail to a read-only state. I bought a suitable enclosure with USB connection and I was able to recover my data independently over USB 3.2. I could have saved myself a lot of cost had I known earlier and, in retrospect, this makes Data Recovery Services even more expensive relative to their service than I thought.
In summary, this was an expensive lesson on many levels: check that your back up is actually keeping up to date, try to read the drive from a USB adaptor and shop around. On the other hand, I was relieved to get my data.
Had they charged the initially-quoted £200 I would have given a more positive review. Given how easy it was for me to recover the data when I learned a tiny bit more, I suspect that they adjust the price based on what they think your data is worth, not the work in recovering it.

By the way, I was prompted (incentivised) to write this review, but I will not be accepting any money from them so my review is independent of any inducement.

The company kept me updated on how the process was going and importantly on the price of the recovery process.

I had a WD MyCloud (Avoid like the plague!) with all my family photos and videos of my kids from the last 18 years and it failed after 2 years ! DRS managed to save all my files and i will be forever thankful to them for this ! Daniel Rees was excellent !

Excellent experience with these guys. Although I didn't go through with the recovery, they continually informed me throughout of the status. The fact that they diagnosed the issues and sent a file list with no obligation is excellent. Would highly recommend

The folk at Data Recovery Specialists were responsive from the day I got in touch with them. They gave me an idea of cost and emphasised that I would pay nothing until they had ascertained what data was recoverable and sent me a full list of the files they could retrieve with a fixed price for the job. At that point I could ask for the drive back and pay nothing.
In the event the fixed price was significantly more than the initial cost estimate, but full retrieval of the data took little more than a week, and together with inclusive DHL collection of the damaged drive and delivery of a new drive with the recovered files, the process was straightforward and convenient.

Positives - communication was very good; I received regular updates on the process of my data recovery, and the process itself was faster than I anticipated. Staff were friendly and helpful over the phone.

Negatives - I sent them a G-Drive 10TB USB hard drive, (which is quite expensive and housed in a nice aluminium case), plus its power supply and USB cable. After deciding to not go ahead with the data recovery due to the cost being too high, they sent me back a bare hard drive outside of its enclosure, with no power supply or cables. I called up to ask why they needed to remove the drive from its enclosure in the first place, and if they could send it and the cables back to me so that I could actually continue using the drive. I was told that they actually needed to "damage" the case in order to open it up and get to the drive. This was never communicated to me; if it had been, I would not have gone ahead with the service.

Thankfully, they did send me back the missing parts, and the enclosure was undamaged. But I could tell from the chap's tone of voice on the phone that he there was definitely a chance they had already been thrown in the bin.

So, definitely a "mixed" experience with this company.

Fast service all data recovered easy to deal with I would recommend

Having never used this kind of service before and knowing the data my customer had lost was critical I turned to the internet and after a quick Google I came upon Data Recovery Specialists. The web site looked professional but I was still going into the unknown and had some concerns. I needn't have been worried. They were fantastic from the get-go. Fantastic communication and fast service. They sent a courier the same day to collect my drive and I had the data back within a week. Fantastic all round and highly recommended.

Was able to recover the data from a failing encrypted HDD (we had the recovery key) All data recovered with little to no corruption. Provided a full list of recovered files and file paths prior to payment. Very happy with the service.

I contacted data recovery specialists to help with a failed Mac hard drive. Apple could not help but the data recovery specialists were able to get all the information off the hard drive. Service was excellent. Would definitely use again if i find myself in that unfortunate position.

Excellent professionalism and client service! I could not access the drive in my windows desktop that held all my files. This company diagnosed the issue and gave me a solution and all the while keeping me informed all the step of the way. Really great people to work with. I would highly recommend.

Excellent, courteous communication, easy and quick service. My hard drive was dropped and wasn't working at all. They chatted through the process with me on the phone and organised the courier. Was a very simple and problem-free process and they also recovered several years' worth of work. Expensive, but saved my skin. I chose dropbox links to receive my files, which was very easy and quick.

I had a hard drive containing all of my family photos on it that had failed. I was extremely worried that I had lost all of the photos completely.

My initial enquiry to Data Recovery Specialists answered all of my questions and satisfied any worries that I had. I had a 30 minute phone call where I was encouraged to ask questions about the company and what they did.

The process of then sending my hard drive off was set up for me and I literally only had to hand the packaged up drive over to the DHL driver the following day.

All of my data was recovered and I opted to have it all put onto a new hard drive which was then shipped back to me within a couple of days.

I was thoroughly impressed with the whole service provided and cannot Thank the company enough for saving all of my photos.

As I have been contacted by Data Recovery Specialists recently. They told me that they have tried to get in touch with me by phone. Which I can't answer through the day because of work. So my order for a job that had been arranged got cancelled. I still don't understand why they didn't get in touch with me through email. As they did to accept the job. But instead my emails to the person who accepted my job was ignored! Only till I wrote a review on here. I got a email off them. Which finally did resolve my dispute with them. So finally got my Hard Drive back today. After 4 months. Now still have to find a decent Data Recovery Firm

Expensive, but seemed to be the only way to recover a large photo collection and all it's memories.

I had an external HDD that died on me out of the blue. I asked some friends if there is a way to save the data but they all agreed that I need proper services for this. I went online on a hunt to find the best recovery data company and I found Fields Data Recovery. I have never done this before so I didn`t know what to expect. I called them and I met a very nice gentleman who patiently listened to what I had to say, and then he told me the steps; they will send a DHL courier to my address (for free), get the HDD, analyse what`s wrong and what can be done to/with it and let me know the outcome and price. If they cannot get the data or if I don`t want to go ahead, they will just send the HDD back free of charge. I had nothing to lose so I agreed.
The next day the courier came, and picked up my HDD, and from then on, I was kept updated, by phone, about everything. I was lucky, they said my files are recoverable and they gave me the price. It was expensive (for a normal person) BUT I knew the entire procedure has to be done in a forensic lab and that work is not easy. Moreover, I wanted my data back intact and from my point of view was worth the money.
When they finished the recovery, they put the data on a cloud but I was not able to save it on my computer. I knew they would keep it there only for a limited amount of time because of the GDPR laws. I wrote them about my problem and I got a call the same day from Roger, who`s a customer service advisor, and he gave me alternatives about how to proceed. He chose the best one for me and now I have the data safe in my hands (well, on my computer) :).
Since they made me happy I want to help other people as well, so I do recommend this company because they really care about their customers.
