My son has been taking tennis lessons with James for some time now, and I have been incredibly impressed with the progress he has made. His tennis skills have improved significantly under James’s guidance, and his confidence on the court continues to grow.
What stands out even more, however, is the positive relationship they have built. James has become a trusted mentor and role model, and my son looks up to him like an older brother. His encouragement, patience, and dedication have made a lasting impact both on and off the court.
James has become part of our extended family, and we are excited to see how my son continues to develop as a player with his support and coaching.

The coffee bar area is dominated by office workers. As a group attending the gym regularly our visit includes coffee together. It was extremely difficult to find a space as all the tables were taken up by single users on their lap tops. I appreciate that the gym affords air con but David LLoyd should dedicate areas for this office work allowing other guests space for meeting freinds.

David Lloyd clubs are very good at providing clean facilities and plenty of classes to join in and advice on fitness, healthy eating and general wellbeing. Staff are always polite and helpful.
The downsides are that certain classes are booked up immediately they become available so maybe they need to offer more of the popular classes. Also if you call it takes ages to answer, if at all.
The café staff take a long time to bring even a drink in the café, food honestly takes so long even when it isn't busy. Also lifeguard availability means that children have very limited times in the outdoor pool area. Finally, there are many occasions when classes are cancelled at short notice due to instructor availability so possibly they have cover and staff issues.
Overall it's still a good place to go and there is no competition that offers the same service and activities despite the cost and annual cost increases.

Being a member at David Lloyd has been extremely helpful with my physiotherapy. I had a bad skiing accident in December which left me with a nasty leg break. Doing some light gym work and walking in the pool has been really helpful. Relaxing in the Spa afterwards is always nice too

I have been a member of David Lloyd Heston since 2024 and, unfortunately, my experience over the last few weeks has completely eroded my confidence in the club’s management and customer service.
My complaint relates to NHS/corporate membership rates. When I joined, I was informed that no NHS or corporate discount was available. However, after making enquiries recently, I have been given multiple conflicting explanations and membership rates by different members of staff. During the course of a formal complaint, I have been quoted different corporate rates and received contradictory information regarding eligibility and pricing.
What has been most disappointing is not the money itself, but the lack of consistency, transparency and accountability. Every time I thought I had a clear answer, the explanation appeared to change. As a customer, it should not require multiple conversations, a formal complaint and independent enquiries simply to establish what membership rate applies.
I have found the handling of my concerns dismissive and frustrating. Rather than feeling that my complaint was being investigated properly, I felt I was being passed from one explanation to another without anyone taking ownership of the issue.
The facilities themselves are below average and dirty , parking a nightmare the club is convenient, which is why I remained a member. However, customer service is tested when things go wrong, not when everything is running smoothly. Unfortunately, my experience has left me with very little confidence in the way concerns are handled.
I would strongly encourage prospective members to obtain all pricing, discounts and membership terms in writing before joining and not rely solely on verbal assurances.
Very disappointing.

Great facility well equipped gym and lovely reception staff. PT trainer was also friendly and enthusiastic.
There are however the issue of over selling I believe as everywhere is too busy with family and kids. It makes the outdoor pool almost impossible to access.

Wayne Wallen – Aqua Classes
DLC Solihull Cranmore
Overall Rating: 5/5 Stars
Wayne consistently delivers exceptional Aqua classes that are engaging, professionally structured, and suitable for a wide range of fitness levels. His expertise, energy, and attention to detail create a welcoming environment where participants feel both challenged and supported.
Wayne demonstrates outstanding technical knowledge of aquatic fitness, carefully balancing cardiovascular conditioning, strength training, mobility, and overall wellness. His instructions are clear and easy to follow, ensuring that everyone can participate safely and confidently regardless of experience level.
What particularly sets Wayne apart is his ability to motivate and inspire. His positive attitude, encouragement, and genuine enthusiasm make every class enjoyable while helping participants achieve their fitness goals. He carefully monitors the group, offering guidance and adaptations where needed, creating an inclusive atmosphere that allows everyone to succeed.
The classes are well-paced, thoughtfully planned, and consistently delivered to a high standard. Participants leave feeling energised, accomplished, and eager to return. Wayne’s professionalism, dedication to member wellbeing, and passion for health and fitness make him one of the standout instructors. Wayne is truly an exceptional experienced Aqua instructor whose knowledge, motivation, professionalism and commitment to member experience consistently result in outstanding classes, this is why his classes are in high demand. His sessions are a valuable asset to the club and I highly recommended for anyone seeking an effective, enjoyable, and inclusive aquatic workout.

Reason for two stars is that the classes are getting a bit boring and all good classes are put in the morning and lunch time and evening classes are much of the choice, not worth the money.

The level of instructors is excellent and I am loving the new upgraded gym.
My favourite classes are yoga of which there is a wide variety. Joanne and Siggy are amazing.
The club room is very good as is the standard of food. Sometimes there can be a very long wait on orders, even just for a coffee. The adult only area is a great addition.
My only gripe is the parking. Car park is often full and you have to drive around trying to find a space.
Otherwise, all great. 👏👏

Good locations. Great offer of services but most of employees have no clue how to handle members (customers). Most of the families have are not properly cleaned and club room food and drink service is appealing.
Only reason to stay is there is no other option in most areas.

At the moment the pool is out of action, but the gym have put on classes instead for the people that normally do Aqua

Customer service is always welcoming and polite, and the spa area and pools are clean and tidy, the gym can be busy along with the classes and carpark but due to high demand, it is really a good environment and nice club to be part of.

After contacting the David Lloyd gym in Herne Bay and requesting a tour I was met with the most astonishing rudeness from the woman on the phone. I obviously did not fit her Class of person to join the gym (this is my assumption of course) because she proceeded to tell me to go to the Ashford David Lloyd gym when it is built in 2027. The reason I contacted Herne Bay in the first place was because I don’t want to wait and I wanted to join Herne Bay even if it is for a year and then transfer to Ashford or take up what kind of membership would suit me best that they offer. She told me three times that I needed to wait for the Ashford one to be built. I was gobsmacked. I proceeded to ask her if the reason she was telling me this was because there is a community feel in Herne Bay David Lloyd and they want that sense of loyalty with members, she consequently said no that’s not the case. She wouldn’t give me an adequate reason why. I mentioned that I’ve driven to her Herne before when I was at their tennis club and it takes a little while to drive across Canterbury, which is where I am from, Who was she to decide for me? How does someone on reception have the jurisdiction to tell you you’re not allowed to join when no vetting had taken place?
Following another call to them later in the afternoon where they did not pick up, I then called and selected a different option and went through to a sales team instead. They said they couldn’t deal with my complaint and so after I asked to be put in touch with a manager, this person sent an email to the Herne Bay club. I said that I would not be available until after 7 pm but within 10 minutes of putting the phone down from that call to Sales at 4:30 pm I had a call from the Herne Bay club. I was actually starting work at this time so I could not take the call. How many David Lloyd staff members does it take to sort out a membership or organise a tour? I bet they have to contract someone to change a lightbulb.
