Disgusted at extra charges when ending gym membership.end my Gym…

I finally decided to end my Gym membership active since 1994 (and then 2004) when management changes occurred. Then told that a months notice was due and that a final direct debit would then be taken.
When the direct debit was not forthcoming (the account had been closed, luckily I think, as I have no confidence at all in in the company to have cancelled my direct debit) an email was received demanding the further payment plus a £15 "late payment" fee and the threat of a further £15 uplift if not paid within 7 days! as these were the terms I had agreed (NOT)
I am disgusted with this treatment.
I have never had any documentation, nor signed anything which included these terms and conditions in all the years I have attended the gym.
I have been unable to attend the gym for several years but kept the account open both to support what I thought was a local amenity and just in case I would be able go sometime. Debits have continued throughout the COVID lockdowns of course when attendance at the gym was banned. I agree with other reviewers that the company is impossible to contact by phone or indeed email to discuss matters like this. Avaricious in the extreme, why on earth do 1life use an outfit like this?

0 stars - terrible

Cancelled via my gym. Told the direct debit had already been submitted and to contact Debit Finance who should cancel the payment. Can never get through, now they've sent me £15 late payment fee on top of the subscription amount. Won't reply to emails, keep getting errors submitting via their online form. Absolutely terrible service. Money hungry conmen.

That’s One star too many

That’s One star too many. Disgusting. Can’t believe company like this is aloud to operate. I cancelled back in September baring in mind my contract was 36months and I had email to say I’ve payed 38. Spoken to two other people since and both confirmed cancelled and told me to keep direct debit open as refund will be issued. 4 more payments taken. Spoke to bank to cancel and get money back another way. Now have been told I wasn’t entitled to refund and must pay back in 7 days or debt collectors will contact.

Impossible to contact them, 1-2hours wait on phone.

Would give 0 stars if I could

Would give 0 stars if I could. We are a business that used DFC to collect our Direct Debits and wow what a mistake.

I have been chasing a reply for a very simple question regarding a member since December 2020 (it is now Jan 2022) but emails from DFC are so sporadic and they tell me something different everytime.

They have also been a nightmare for our members too - if you value your customers, avoid DFC!

Never even heard of this company till…

Never even heard of this company till there was a charge on my bank statement! Haven’t signed up to no gyms or anything so no idea how they got my bank information. Anyway cancelled the direct debit and it seems like it’s a good thing I did cos the reviews on here are bad with trying to get in touch with them so yes avoid!

Deserve 0 stars, Absolute robbers joined Mecure feelgood gyms who where using 3rd party marketing company who sold me membership financed by this company. My cancellation offer was £154 ( I had argued that due to covid my contract had been broken particularly as no changing facilities where provided , booking of short time slots was Introduced, no jacuzzi, steam room was available this was not accepted) when I tried to pay the cancellation fee I couldn't do it online and attempting to ring them resulted in numerous long periods waiting to be answered, I emailed explaining, to be advised that someone would be on touch none ever did. By time I chased again 3 months and 57£ in monthly fees paid later . My cancellation fee had only dropped to 149£. Finally I.paid it off but have been left totally aggrieved with DFC and Mercure for their total complacency in allowing this Company to sully their companies reputation.

Absolutely terrible people to deal…

Absolutely terrible people to deal with..
Took double the amount of money due. And then told me I owed them for non payment..
Then increased my direct debit without my or the gym owners permission.
They don't answer calls or emails.
From me or the gym owner..
They really are nasty aggressive in their attitude.
When you ask a question by email the will answer 10 days later with a completely irrelevant automated response...
Rubbish con men.
Thieves that rob you via loopholes..
Avoid if possible..

Followed the cancellation process I was advised and still charged

I was informed at my local gym that "all you need to do to cancel your membership is to cancel your Direct Debit". Which I did.

I then got an email telling me I owed £39 (more than I paid for my membership to begin with, I got it discounted due to my job) and then was told that I also owe a late payment charge of £15 on top of this fee, too.

I got the offer to place my membership on hold while I went back into the gym and then try and resolve it.
But looking at the other reviews I guessed this would take anywhere from months to years.

I told the advisor I'd rather just pay, get the "debt" cleared and never have to deal with that gym, or with a single company that uses Debit Finance Collections ever again in my life.

*Edit, after my initial interaction I was told that an email would be sent confirming my account was closed "when the money has cleared", which according to my bank, had already gone through. So I rung back and waited to have the agent send me the email while on the phone.
Final agent I spoke to was pleasant and helpful, just a shame she works for a joke of a "company".

Absolutely DISGUSTING company

Absolutely DISGUSTING company. Cancelled my membership with a gym MONTHS AGO, they OWE ME MONEY in refunds for taking money after I cancelled and now they claim I owe them £675? If I don’t get connected with a vile poor excuse of a person on the phone who is rude I get a threatening email saying I owe them so much and if I don’t pay they’ll send out debt collectors!!!!!! I am taking this company to court and suing for EVERY PENNY!

Aggressive and threatening

I have just received an aggressive, heavy handed email telling me, "we are not sure you are aware of the significance of this unpaid amount."
I have previously phoned them to cancel my DD, so they (presumably) are aware of this. They are also fining me £15 for a late payment.
The reason I cancelled my DD is because I have just made a substantial annual subscription to their client! What sort of customer service is this? They are hardly a good intermediary for any business.
How about reminders and requests rather than threats on the first contact?
What a vile organisation.

Signed up for Rena Spa at Tower Bridge…

Signed up for Rena Spa at Tower Bridge London. DD set up - money in account. Quickly received an email from this pathetic set up of a company to say they were charging me £15 for an upaid DD. Emailed them to advise money was available in account - no response. Tried calling - no answer. Another email from them saying the late payment charges were now £45. Tried calling again to explain to no avail. Called the actual spa who were initially helpful but soon stopped replying. I stopped using the spa because I assumed my membership had been cancelled by DFC. Still continued to try to sort this out. Eventually spoke to Michelle at DFC who looked into my account with them and realised the person enrolling me had taken my bank card details down incorrectly even though he had it in his hand. Hence no payment. I was then advised I'd have to pay 2 x months to be reinstated (bearing in mind I was advised by my GP to enrol due to both physical and mental health issues.) I have been calling this place since July trying to get this issue resolved. I phoned yet again today just to be told it had been referred to a 3rd party who make the decisions. I asked Dave for the name of this 3rd party but was not forthcoming. I advised him to make a note that I will not be paying again not only because of the Standard of Service of the spa but because of the 'couldn't care less' attitude of this shambles of a company.

Joke of a company, don't know how they are allowed to continue...

Set up a gym membership for my 15 yr old, set up a direct debit, all good, first month go an email to say I had a late payment fee on my account as my direct debit had failed( money was in my account) contacted sports centre and they told me it was my fault for not setting up my details, I asked how I hadn't when they had took the initial payment to start the membership, but thought it was a mistake so paid late fee and asked if it was all set up proper, checked they had all details, told it was and next month got another late payment fee, again blamed me but I refused to pay it this time, sent numerous emails to the sports centre and they told me to contact this company. Contact them!!!! How the hell do you do that, I've filled in their forms and had emails to say I have refused to contact them so they are adding more fees on an passing it to a debt collector if I still fail to respond. Absolute joke and our sports centre are stupid using them, not the only one who's had issues my friend has had exactly same!

DISGUSTING..INCOMPETENT..Threatening!

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!
Would give Zero stars if allowed to!
I took out a gym membership October (last month) my first payment isn’t due until December….They are sending me intimidating, threatening emails and texts demanding I pay £167 unpaid memberships including charges!! I don’t owe a penny! Even the gym have contacted them to say STOP THIS yet they carry on!!
They even put my old address from two years ago on the emails…they did the same back then too…..totally INCOMPETENT!
I intend to make a formal legal complaint along the appropriate channels!

They overcharged me unfairly. I have sent them emails twice but they never care about that. They are thieves and have terrible customer care. I'll sue them anyway.

AWFUL company

AWFUL company - have never been so frustrated than with dealing with these cowboys. Been trying to cancel my gym membership as paid through them for three months, can't ever get through on the phone or via email but am constantly chased with threatening messages about my finance being late due!!!
