I recently ordered a bulk load of long-length treated timber joists and decking boards from DIY Building Supplies for a demanding garden bridge project, and the service was faultless from start to finish.

The structural joists (which I’m using to sister and support a heavy bridge span) were absolutely pristine. Honestly, they were so consistently straight and clean that I had a genuinely hard time choosing which ones to select as my primary sister logs—the quality across the board was that high.

The decking boards arrived in equally perfect condition. Anyone who buys long timber online knows the gamble: you usually expect twisted, banana-shaped planks or split, cracked edges from rough handling. Not a single one of these boards was twisted or blown out at the ends. A few boards had minor natural imperfections—like a slightly shaved bottom edge—but that is completely standard for real timber, and frankly, far fewer than what I've previously received from major national timber merchants. Everything was incredibly straight and full-length.

To top it all off, the delivery was only £25. For a massive lorry to haul heavy, long-length timber right to my door for that price is absolutely insane compared to the £180 other sites were quoting me.

Outstanding value, premium timber, and a brilliant delivery service. I will absolutely be using them again for my next project. Highly recommended!

My missus is disabled and the driver left the boards up the end off the road because he reckon he couldn't reverse down my street we've had bulk bags delivered with no problem delivering to the front off your house very disappointed with this company

The item we received was good quality at a great price plus an easy delivery made everything perfect.

Im afraid I have to leave very poor review. The timber they delivered is all warped, not straight at all, even twisted, but meant to be. It says Regularised Timber. Half of it cannot use. Its a shame.

5* for price, but only 1* for delivery.

No communication whatsoever about delivery until I chased up, and then it was scheduled for 7 days later, total 10 days in all from date of order.

If you want cheaper prices, then I'd recommend. If you want a fast delivery then nope.

I won’t be using again, ordered timber lengths for a project as had good reviews. Order was split over 2 deliveries due to availability. First delivery couldn't fault, excellent, this was a week ago. Still waiting for the second order. After being offered a lower grade product at the same price and lots of back and forth the delivery was arranged for Wednesday, no show. Was rearranged for Friday and was told didn't need to be in for delivery. Driver was unable to deliver due to no one being in and now have had to delay project further and pay for the craftsmen for a full weekend without any work.

Ordered online and materials were at a really good price and cheaper than elsewhere. Communication was great and had a call to confirm that some of the lengths required weren't available but alternatives were offered at no additional cost. Delivery was a little longer than advertised but came from a local supplier and was great quickly so happy to wait for a service like that. Will order from here again in the future, great service!

I recently purchased the 18mm Structural Hardwood Plywood and I’m genuinely impressed.
No damage, no delamination, and the edges were clean and straight. Unlike B&Q or Wickes the faces are smooth and consistent with no voids or patches.
I’ll definitely be buying from them again for future projects.

Absolutely awesome from the ordering, speaking to customer service who could not help me enough, emails and phone calls answered promptly, but my hat goes of to the young man who delivered my order, hand balling 36 decking planks 11 3x2 and other materials in blistering hot weather, and refused help did it all in under 20 mins right where I asked him to put it, TOP COMPANY

If you look at getting your job done smoothly, this is not your option.

I had ordered some decking boards and support joists from this firm.

The experience with them was terribly bad.

This company acts as a broker, has no actual stock themself, asked a 3rd party to send them to you.

But apparently it has a very limited control of its 3rd party company.

Poor communication about delivery, and no show on confirmed delivery day

Before delivery day, I had moved around my cars and waited for the whole day,

But no delivery turned up, and no one even notified me what is happening. I was kept in the dark.

It has been wasting my time, delay things and make my garden look terrible when my decking needs doing.

Then next day, I sent an email to their support to ask them to cancel the order, nothing happens and heard nothing.

2 days later in the morning, I had sent one more email to ask them to cancel the order. and first thing in the morning I had checked email again, no replies from them. They should have followed my instruction to cancel it and make a full refund.

Suddenly around 12:10pm when I was in a work meeting, there is a delivery turned up. I was disturbed at this work meeting.

Afterwards I noticed that there was an email about this at 11:02am.

There was no delivery notice to me on the day before delivery or early morning of the delivery day.

There should be at least a 24 hour notice to give to me about this delivery.

Very poor communication and late delivery even if I asked to cancel it.

Also the quality of joists is very suspicious, Joists do not look at treated. asked for joists C24 certificate, but never supplied them to me.

As I was looking to purchase a significant amount of timber for a decking project the competitive pricing of DIYBS was a key factor in choosing them. However, my experience post order has definitely left me questioning the wisdom of that choice. To be fair, I placed my order on the run up to a bank hol and the website did warn that this may affect delivery timescales. However it was 3 days before I even received a delivery date which was to be 10 days after my order date. That was disappointing but what was worse was that no courier details were provided meaning that I couldn't track the order for a delivery time. As the order had not been delivered by late on the stipulated day I had to phone DIY for a status update. When the truck eventually arrived only 10% of my order was on it. No explanation just a cursory "this frequently happens" ( the courier was local to me in Manchester). I was told to expect a further delivery the next day but no other details. Again I had to chase DIY for this and waited nearly a further full day for the remaining items. Regarding the timber- I ordered 4x2 and 6x2 treated joists in 2.4 and 3m lengths (for a reason) however a number of 4.8m lengths were delivered - presumably with the expectation that I would have to cut them to length myself. Navigating these through a terraced house was something of a challenge and not appreciated. DIY stated that they were not informed that this would happen. The quality of the joists appears quite decent with most straight and true (a few exceptions) however I'm not sure about the level of treatment as they appear extremely light in colour compared to others that I sourced elsewhere. The dimensions were also something of a surprise with the 4 x 2 joists measuring just 45mm x 92mm. That is again significantly different (less) than those bought elsewhere. So in summary, the initial price (£650) looked like a good deal however taking account of the whole experience (customer support, tracking updates, speed of delivery and relative quality of the product) I'm not sure that the modest saving made against some of the more traditional merchants was worth it overall.

I ordered a lot of wood for my garden shed project. There was an issue with delivery and Kathryn arranged a courier delivery at no extra cost to make sure I got what I needed on time. Great service and really felt liken valued customer.

The ordering process was easy and the plywood sheets were reasonably priced and were delivered on time. The delivery driver was friendly and helpful, carrying the 12 boards into my garage. (Well, I helped him).

Good service and decent delivery period after order. Very good prices most importantly.
