Motorhome and Caravan

My husband and I went to the motorhome and caravan show in Manchester on the 12th January 2024, it was our first time there. We have purchased a new bailey autograph so we was looking for an awning on the Dometic site we spoke to Dominic about our choices, Dominic had a really good knowledge of the product and explained in detail what our options were. I bought a £700 fridge for my boat from…

I bought a £700 fridge for my boat from Dometic believing it would be worth it and that the company was a good one. I think because it’s a brand often used by boaters. I saved for ages and was really excited to finally have a 12v fridge. 18 months later and it’s already failed. It won’t cool. I wasn’t too worried at first as it’s still under warranty, but Dometic have failed to respond to any of my communications and it’s impossible to find a number to call or get through on. I’m so sad and disappointed. And also have no fridge which makes life tricky. The dealer is trying to chase too but have heard nothing.
You can’t even get simple technical support. This is what I might expect for £100 fridge not one much much more than that. I will be advising other boaters to avoid at all costs now. Mostly because of very poor customer service. You invest in expensive products because you hope they’ll last, not become a big stress, and that there will be support from these known brands. Not in this case.
Ps. Reply from Dometic below suggests I haven’t already reported this many times, including through the dealer, Force 4. There should be at least three ‘tickets’ already. I have now tried again and will see.

Been waiting ten weeks for parts to…

Been waiting ten weeks for parts to caravan fridge under warranty with no sign of them arriving anytime soon, not worked since July when I arrived in France for a long trip and fridge was dead ,I am unable to use my caravan had to cancel trips, looking at reviews for first time I am not alone do they not have any customer care at all ?

Customer Service fail 101

When I bought my boat, I got with it the marine A/C unit, made by Cruiseair/Dometic. I requested a manual from their customer service, since none were available online (that I could find). A week has passed, with no response - so I sent a reminder. “Jon” has replied, writing that he can’t find the original request, which I subsequently resent. His response … oh, this product is handled by another (marine) division, ask them… Did he forward them my request? Not. OMG
Eventually I did receive the manuals I needed, but it should not have been so difficult nor time-consuming.

*WARNING* Do not buy Dometic.

CRE50 fridge has just stopped working these last couple of months, its only a yr and half old, so brand new, £450! tried everything to sort it. have contacted the manufacturer (dometic) directly as well as the dealer, all I get is we cant help you, or contact this other one, who then tells me to contact someone else, going round in circles left with time spent days wks, months on emails phone calls to ultimatly get nowhere. terrible customer service from dometic who I would of thought would of acted much better but just not bothered about customers who have a fault with one of their products. no doubt they will respond to this review with the usual 'please contact our support team' or some other fob off. yeh I have many many times and your just crap, you dont want to know!
I just want my broken fridge (under warrenty!) repaired or replaced, and you cant even do that.
So dometic you can do one, ive had enough, your customer service/care is rubbish and you should be ashamed.
So hopefully anyone considering buying a dometic fridge for your camper vw or otherwise, save your money and buy something else.

Furnace fire 🔥 Burned through its self

2020 Jayco Northpoint / Dometic Furnace Fire!
I’ve been fire fighter since 98, I know how important fire safety is.
In December we had an RV tech check out our furnace and they said it’s fine!

A few months later my wife is smart and jumped into action when our 2020 Jayco Northpoint with a Dometic furnace caught fire in February 2023. It was -5 F degrees in Utah and I was at the fire station. She called me and said she smelled smoke. Our dog had alerted her and she got the kids and the dog into our truck. She turned off the breakers and the gas, which prevented a total loss of the trailer.
When I came home, I found the furnace had burned a hole through the burn chamber and damaged the floor, wires, and pipes. The fire had also melted the water lines, which sprayed water and stopped the fire from spreading. I spent $8,000 to repair the damage and sent the furnace back to Dometic. They refused to reimburse me for anything. Jayco also denied any responsibility. I didn’t even get a discount on new parts. I hired an RV tech and showed them the receipts, but they didn’t care. I only asked for some help with the repair costs, not for extra expenses like lodging and loss of work.
Both companies blamed each other and ignored me. I fixed the trailer and sold it. I will never buy a Jayco or a Dometic product again. If you care about your family, you should avoid them too. I was lucky that my wife acted fast and saved our family (my wife, four kids, and two dogs). I didn’t claim it on the insurance because I thought one or the other would take care of us. It also took months to get denied from Dometic. I didn’t have the furnace anymore so insurance would not cover it! I should have called insurance first! So we paid all of this out of pocket!

They said it was from being installed incorrectly. Here is my stance, as a fire fighter,
1. It took quite some time to get answers, there was no rush in February when we had a ton of snow on the ground! We are full time RV’ers.
2. The burn chamber burned through its own wall. The fire was 100% from inside the furnace. If it wasn’t from my wife being smart and killing all power and fuel, and getting out, my family would be dead! I don’t know how installing it incorrectly would make the burn chamber to fail!
I talked to 5 different RV techs who said they’ve never seen this happen before! I also had the furnace checked in Dec ( a few months before the fire) and they said it was fine.
3. In any manufacturing process things can be made with discrepancies. I think the metal in the burn chamber was probably weak. Maybe it’s a design flaw and maybe that’s why you wanted the unit back, to test it!
4. If there was an install issue, I’d think you’d reach out to the Rv manufacturer and go over proper install to see this doesn’t happen again.
5. If it was an install issue, I think you’d work with me and the RV manufacture to help in any way. But that didn’t happen. I received nothing from Dometic. At first I received hope that you would reimburse me for the unit. So I spent a lot of time taking pictures, answering questions, following up with your team & shipping it back to you, all to say not your problem!

I know a one star review isn’t worth the cost of that furnace! But I guess it shows dometic doesn’t care!

Dometic junk

Bought a new travel trailer in July of 2021 and it came with a Dometic fridge. In June of 2022 took trip to Fla. in 95 deg weather temp in fridge was 50 deg. Took it to dealer for service and all they did was move thermister. This year went out west into 100 deg and best it would "cool" to was 70 deg. It's out of warranty now and so now I pay for diagnostic that was never done. Not Dometic problem. Still their equip. is JUNK. I call it a hot box not a refrigerator.

DONT BUY DOMETIC!! They are rubbish!!

We purchased a CF11 fridge and it has died 2 months out of warranty. Dometic are no help (when you can get through to them- tried email, phone and online chat over 12 times) and when talking to their local service agents they are not taking on any more warranty claims as they also cant get hold of anyone in Dometic and Dometic are not paying their bills.
Don't buy Dometic!!
For quality buy Engel, if you want to buy China rubbish like Dometic just buy Brass Monkey at half the cost of the Dometic/Waco and they are better. Never again total waste of $550

We purchased a new RV in April 2022

We purchased a new RV in April 2022. We used our water heater for a total of 2 weeks over 1year. After our last trip out we opened the panel to discovered that all of the wires were burnt. We took it to a Dometic certified RV dealer. They blew the lines out and said nothing was in the chamber but the Motherboard was not working and had malfunctioned. We have a 2year warranty with Dometic and they denied our claim stating that the fire was due to no maintenance. So do we need to do maintenance after two weeks of use?? The repair man didn't see anything but the Motherboard being the problem . All of the burnt wires are still in/on our water heater, they were not replaced. $590 Later. Dometic does not stand by their products/warranty. We will be changing all Dometic products out of our camper when they fail. For the amount of money we spent replacing the Motherboard we should have replaced the whole thing. Dometics Motherboards are garbage.

We bought a new 2022 RV with a Dometic…

We bought a new 2022 RV with a Dometic fridge. After only two camping trips the Dometic fridge stopped working. We were still under warranty, so the dealership replaced the fridge (took 4 1/2 months). Got the camper back with a new Dometic fridge and after two camping trips the second fridge stopped working. In our opinion, Dometic is the worst RV fridge on the market!

Expensive repair never ever fixed problem 🤬

If I could give this company no stars I would !!
We called this company out for our Dometic fridge in my partner’s Motorhome as we were going to be going off grid and for some reason it would not ignite on gas.
Their engineers were quick to come out and after an hour diagnosed that the gauge and burner needed replacing and after reassurance that it was fixed ( critical as we had no other power supply for the fridge ) they went on their way with £371.95 of our money - for 2 parts and 1 hours work!!
Parts I later found out are less than £70 for the 2 😳

In the early hours of the next morning the alarm started on the fridge and once again it went off - we were cross as it was supposed to be fixed - so another call to Dometic and one of the engineers from the day before turned up but started saying it could be coolant system which obviously scared us as that’s costly but having spoken with another dealer on site I suggested that Rus ( Dometic) check the flue and burner. Fifteen minutes later he diagnosed a faulty burner and replaced it - still not looking at the flue.

That was on the Friday then fast forward to 5 am Saturday morning alarm went off yet again on fridge - Dometic offices closed - so spoke with another dealer on site who happened to have a guy on site who did all repairs in Motorhomes and fridges - he was amazing he thoroughly checked everything including the flue and found the alignment of our ignition flame was out so it was always going to keep failing and no amount of burners would fix it - the cost £40.

Dometic may of came really quickly on both occasions however they cost us lots of money and fixed nothing and when confronted over this via email just said “having spoken with both engineers they said that replacing the burner was the only repair needed”🤬

Shame on this company for ripping people off and having engineers who do not thoroughly check the whole system on a fridge that is not working on gas as how the hell are you supposed to diagnose anything if you do not check the route the gas has to take - cost us more than our whole holiday as well the needless upset and stress.

It’s time they looked after their customers better as we are what keeps them going and without us there would not be Dometic!!!

Appalling RV cassette toilet design

I bought a new motorhome in 2020 and it included a Dometic cassette toilet. The cassette leaked so when taking it to a dump station most of the contents leaked out. The slider that closes the top had no seal. The dealer arranged a replacement, but the seal is so tight that it is extremely difficult to pull out the slider. I have tried various types of lubrication with no success. A replacement rubber seal costs £44!! On a recent trip it became almost impossible to use the toilet.

Furthermore the handle to pull out the slider is at the front, which becomes the bottom when the cassette is removed. When you take the cassette to a dump station is stands on the handle which thus becomes very easily scratched.

Domestic Disappointment

Requested warranty replacement on a refrigerator in my RV. They accepted the claim and explain that they would only pay for the replacement of the RV not the installation costs. This was fair due to the fact that it was a little out of the warranty time frame. A day later after the arrangements had been made in writing I was notified that they would not honor the replacement or repairs. No further reason was given and they refused to accept communications of any kind. Poor quality materials were used and even worse customer service.

Club air pro awning.leaks so much it’s NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE !
I was fobbed off with out of warranty as brought in 21 ( I’ve only used it 3 times a total of 7 days ) Sent emails with photos/ videos still not heard a thing. It’s an absolute insult and day light robbery. I feel you e robbed me of £1300. NEVER DOMETIC AGAIN may have to try small claims for a resolve.

Dometic is not worth buying

Extremely hard to work with Dometic as a company, they will try everything to avoid a refund or admitting their product is faulty. Currently stuck without a working fridge and no way to replace or exchange it for something else. Anaconda is more then happy to do so, the mechanic who serviced it also said it was the best option. Dometic said no and is sending us a lid with no solution on how to refrigerate our food in the two week period it will take to get here. Keep in mind every professional that has looked at it stated it was more than an issue with the lid. Who knows how long it will actually take to solve the whole problem. Anaconda has stopped stocking their products because they have so many problems with warranty when dealing with Dometic.

So I bought the Ascension FTX 601 tent…

So I bought the Ascension FTX 601 tent that retail between say £1400-£1900 depending on offers and where you get it from so not a cheap tent by any means.
I bought it in January of this year 2023 obviously in the middle of winter so it was not going to get used right away so it remained in the Box until May.
We took it out for a trial weekend, it’s a huge tent so we wanted to iron out any kinks when putting it up/ taking down. To our surprise there was an instant deflation of one of the bladders and over the course of the weekend another bladder was going down so two out of the five inflatable bladders had issues.
I was going to return it there and then but my wife wanted to give them a chance to resolve the issue as she loved the tent and after all it was only the bladders … so we though!

After speaking back and forth with customer service two new bladders were received in the post I stressed I needed them urgently as we had a three week holiday planned in the tent . They arrived sharpish which was a relief.

I’m July we set off on our holiday three weeks in Cornwall/Devon and the issues started not long into our holiday. As soon as it rained the tent started to leak and not just from one area but I mean all over. Above the bedroom area, each side of the tent around the stitching , at the front and at the rear. I have videos and photos of this . I couldn’t believe what was happening. Our friends had a £400 entry level Vango and it did not let a single drop of water in at all over a 19 day period yet this “ high end tent “ was like a sieve for 10 days. When ever it rains it leaked. Needless to say our holiday was ruined , we were on edge when ever the clouds looked like it was going to rain and subsequently we had no choice other than to cut our holiday short.

I emailed customer service whilst I was in holiday explaining the situation I was not happy. Over the next week or two ( 5 days for a reply from each message that was sent ) I managed to get the tent collected and a water test was carried out and shock horror it failed. An email was received advising a refund would be issued. Great news but why am I writing this review? Well not once was an apology issued just a “ water test failed so a refund will be issued “

My holiday was ruined and no apology. It’s as if this is a normal occurrence and they have replaced or refunded so many times it’s now the norm and they don’t even apologise for the inconvenience caused

Avoid Dometic at all costs, if you want a high end tent shop at Vango

Company is part of the major problems in this world.

This company has a phone tree that just gives the customer a round about diversion. You press one of the prompts and it takes you back to the original phone tree. After reading the reviews, I believe its very clear this company has no interest in taking care of customers. We, as consumers can make an impact on businesses like this by never purchasing their products again. They need to be investigated.

Waste of time...

The Dometic website says:
"If you have any questions regarding our products you are welcome to contact us by submitting an enquiry using the support form below. Once the form has been submitted, we will get back to you within three business days."
I submitted a question on the 18th July. I got no response after a week so I submitted it again - also pointing out that I'd had no response the first time.
No response the second time either.
What a waste of time...

Modification Needed to be Weatherproof

I purchased my Dometic Hub Redux 2.0 Shelter and four side screens from @AttwoolsCamping&Leisure in March this year and have used it approximately 20 times as a base camp shelter for my drone business. At first, I was disappointed to have selected the Hub 2.0 with plastic ring side-screen fixings rather than the 1.0 version's zip fastening; however, having had zips fail I recognise the benefit of the 2.0's simplicity. That said, these plastic hooks are not good enough and the side-screen fails to keep out driving rain. I have replaced the hooks with tiny 'O' ring Carabiners and the Hub is more resilient... Tiny cable-ties would have the same effect.
The Hub looks smart, modern and a bit different on-site which is why I chose it. I did not want a 'tent' because that looked unprofessional. Hub 2.0 is also the lightest shelter available and packs down into a @MountainEquipment medium-sized holdall at a weight of 18kgs on my back for a walk in. This has, in the past, been much more difficult with frame awnings.
