If you are unfortunate enough to use…

If you are unfortunate enough to use Doors and Floors Direct, be prepared for an unfounded character assassination if you dare to complain about the quality of service or products received.

Please see below a lovely display of responses they have made to an array of unhappy customers. As a small family business, who apparently pride themselves on customer service, I suggest whoever responds to these negative reviews undergoes further training on how to politely respond to complaints. As I believe you do not represent Doors and Floors Direct in a professional manner.

👎 Thanks for your 1 star review. I see from your recent reviews of Doors and Floors, Tapi Carpets and The Furniture Superstore, you get ignored a lot. Perhaps instead of ‘standing there and waving the guy over’ you could make yourself known to the staff in future with a hello.

👎 I would also like to note that you have stated in further correspondence that we should have offered as a small gesture of goodwill - a refund of the door £95.53. We are now in a position where we have a delivery driver who has expressed the desire not to deliver to you again, a fitter who would not wish to fit for you again and a member of staff who would not want to deal with you again. It is unfortunate that as a company we are not able to "review" our customers, if we were able to we would certainly return a 1-star review to you.

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Didn’t try to sell us something we didn’t need. Asked what we were looking for in our flooring.
Made us feel important and the product was second to none.

New flooring & skirting throughout our house. The service was excellent from beginning to end. Sales staff were brilliant they guided us through our choices with the expertise & knowledge. Everything arrived on time. Fitters were brilliant. Polite, professional & friendly. Can’t fault the company at all. Thanks again. I love it.

Old doors...new handles.

Old doors...new handles.

We've got an old (ish) house with lovely oak doors that were stained dark brown, we had them stripped back to the natural wood....... that's where the problem started we just didn't have a clue and door furniture!!! So, we contacted Doors and Floors at Blaydon and got the most lovely helpful guy ever (Liam) he guided us through the whole online selection process (it was during lockdown) and we eventually decided on handles that totally matched the style/era of our doors 😊👍 to say we're delighted with the result is an understatement. Thanks Liam at Doors and Floors for your guidance and patience. 5 star team!!

WOW, WOW, WOW!

The best service, the best quality, the best value around!
I bought flooring for my kitchen/diner and my bathroom and the most gorgeous oak internal doors. The service was second to none, nothing was too much trouble. I would never go anywhere else! Definitely, definitely recommend.

Shocking Customer Service

I had used Doors and Floors several times and also recommended to numerous friends and family members. I had recently done some work at home which meant i needed to replace a few bits of flooring which i had purchased from them a few years earlier. I went to the store and took a box of what i thought was the correct flooring i left my invoice with the gentleman that helped me incase it was wrong and i would have to bring back. It was the incorrect flooring so i returned with the box for a refund and a sample of the original flooring to see if we could match up, the guy we spoke to was really helpful he told us the flooring was not something they could get anymore so we were discussing whether different options available or any solutions to match floor in. Another member of staff stomped across to us complaining about myself and my husband returning the box and "why do we think we can just return things that have been opened and its ok its not our money" and just basically slated us as we stood there, my husband and myself were a bit gobsmaked by his behaviour and the gentleman who had been serving us looked uncomfortable. We continued to talk to the gentleman dealing with us and ignored the other staff members rants (Scotty i believe he's known as). He then approached us again stating it wasn't there fault and telling his staff member "don't let them blame you you didnt work here when we had that flooring in". by no means were we blaming anyone and made it quite clear i thought his manners and customer service was shocking, he then walked away. the other gentleman kindly arranged my refund and i left the store. its a shame one person can let the business down so badly i have never received such bad customer service and manners in my life and will definitely not be recommending them again. He was aggressive rude and made the experience extremely uncomfortable

In reference to your response. At no point during our conversation did we raise our voices to the gentleman that was dealing with us. The product had been opened as how else would we check if it was the correct flooring. We were discussing with your colleague our options, we were at no point rude or aggressive to anybody either. I did however challenge Scott about his behaviour and bad customer service. Even the response to my review is very passive aggressive. I don’t regularly put reviews on trust pilot but was so incensed by the way we had been treated I decided to use this forum to air my grievances. I did actually visit another flooring shop who were extremely helpful and managed to order us the flooring you advised was no longer available as discontinued. Goes to show there is still good customer service out there.

And also just to clarify before putting the review on trust pilot I contacted your other store to make a verbal complaint which I was told would be looked into but as no one took my contact details I was unable to get any feedback regarding it.

Your husband did indeed purchase a pack of flooring that he thought was the same that you had previously bought from us 3 to 4 years ago. You did the return in the afternoon with your husband but what you fail to mention is that the pack had been opened (we only take unopened packs back that are in a saleable condition). The pack had been taped up with black electrician’s gaffer tape, which is not how the product was sold to you. Scott then looked over the failed attempt to re-package the item and mentioned to you both that we didn’t take packs back in that condition - to which Mr Heslop replied ”why don’t you just sell it to a trade lad, you know how it is”. Alex then proceeded with your refund, which we did not have to do but using his "customer service skills", was being accommodating in trying to solve your issue. You then kept asking Alex in a raised voice “what are you going to do about it”, in reference to finding the flooring you were wanting. It had been explained to you that the flooring was a product that we no longer stock and your tone made Alex (who has just recently joined the company) very uncomfortable (his words not mine). Scott became aware of this and spoke to Alex to reassure him that this was not actually his fault. As a small business we pride ourselves on our industry knowledge and also our friendly customer service, which is affirmed to us regularly in the numerous positive feedback we receive. I can understand your frustration at not being able to get the flooring that you were looking for but we will always support our staff when we feel they are made to feel uncomfortable and are spoken to in a disrespectful and unreasonable manner.

Recent purchase of doors and flooring

Recently bought 8 doors and flooring, excellent customer service from Neil, one door was exchanged when I ordered the wrong width, this was managed by Neil without any stress to myself as I was on holiday. Really happy with the doors and flooring, so had no hesitation in ordering staircase this week. Would highly recommend.

I have used doors and floors direct on…

I have used doors and floors direct on several occasions and each time I have had impeccable service and never had any problems returning any unused wood. I have recommended them to other people and they are extremely satisfied with the service and the quality of their flooring.
Keep up the good work Sam and Kevin.

Brilliant service

Brilliant service. I'm not typically inclined to leave online reviews but the Blaydon branch of Doors and Floors were brilliant. They were incredibly patient and accommodating as I tried to reach a decision on flooring and when there was a very minor delivery glitch they went above and beyond to resolve it so that it didn't have knock on implications. I can't recommend highly enough.

New Oak Staircase - Perfect in every way

Doors&Floors fitted a brand new staircase for me, replacing my old, flimsy knotty pine staircase with a beautiful new sturdy oak staircase. The customer service was excellent. The delivery was made at the agreed time. The materials were well packaged and of perfect quality. The workmanship by Paul who installed the staircase was outstanding - a true perfectionist. He was reliable, tidy, courteous and extremely helpful. I have already recommended this company to lots of people and would certainly use them again, without reservation.

Disgusting attitude - bad service

Absolutely appalled by the service at Doors and Floors Direct (particularly Scott at Benton Office).
As a previous customer with a whole house of floor they supplied, he offered me a small discount on a new floor (£100). We provided rough measurements and were advised the fitters would come measure up for exact measurements. They never did and instead decided to just hope they had what they needed and time to fit it. We asked if the same guys were able to fit a different floor upstairs and were told yes definitely ( at standard price of £10 a square metre - no discounts).
On the day of fitting they arrived and said no beading was on the order, despite having asked for it. They advised all our doors would need trimmed at £15 per door and that our downstairs toilet would take extra time (2 things they would have known if they came to measure up in advance). They ignored all other instructions (such as start upstairs) and when we popped in they said they were unlikely to finish in one day, so could return in a week (!!) after their holiday! Scott had assured us on several occasions they would be finished
in one day and I had stressed the importance of this because we have furniture being delivered and a van booked to move in. Why accept the work if you don’t have time to finish it? Who is happy leaving a customer with half a job?
Called today to discuss all of this with Scott and before I could even open my mouth he was straight down my throat with the worst attitude. Saying he fitted the upstairs as a ‘favour’ and I should be grateful (at £10 per square metre I struggle to see how this was a favour) and when I mentioned the beading he said this wasn’t part of the order - so tough. Wouldn’t discuss any further. He was talking over me speaking to with the most disgusting tone of voice. Even called me ‘horrible’ and said I should be grateful they had done me a favour. Well after a few days of absolute stress with their terrible service I wish he hadn’t done me a favour!
The fitters weren’t able to finish the job, when we popped over they even suggested we swept up for them! Surely that’s part of their job. They never found time to trim the doors back so the doors are all lay around off the hinges and we have to find somebody else last second to do this. They also didn’t have time do the sealent.

There are so many lovely tradesmen and companies who have made moving house a pleasure, please just avoid these like the plague! Scott has no business working in customer service!

Point 1 - I’m sure you understand that prices are tight due to competition from the internet and other flooring suppliers. The fact you mentioned this first, we take as being your biggest gripe. As a company we do not have to offer or give discounts - the fact that we did would be considered by most as a plus.

Point 2 - We generally always do site visits but due to the timescale of your fitting demands it was not possible, however, the flooring quantity was correct. We worked with the house plans you supplied, ordered the flooring and arranged the fitter. The floor was exactly what was required.

Point 3 - You were quoted £8-10/m2 for fitting. It was only when you wanted 3 extra bedrooms fitted on the same day, with flooring purchased elsewhere that you mentioned you would pay them £10/m2.

Point 4 - You never asked for beading - you were asked at the point of sale whether it was required and you did not know if the skirting was coming off or not.

Point 5 - Doors had never been mentioned and a site inspection was not possible due to the time demands.

Point 6 - Toilets do take extra time but it was the addition of the 3 extra rooms that took longer than planned.

Point 7 - Scott asked the fitters to start downstairs as this was what was originally planned.

Point 8 - I believe the fitters completed nearly all the work and stayed late into the evening.

Point 9 - When you called you went straight on the offensive and refused to listen to anything we had to say, you then shouted and swore at Scott and immediately put the phone down.

Point 10 - The fitting of £10/m2 was what you said you would pay the fitter for the additional work, your words were, “I just need it fitting quickly”. We asked the fitter if they did not mind fitting another suppliers products to help you out. However, I must apologise if you were called "horrible" as this is not acceptable.

Point 11 and Point 12 - I don’t quite understand your comment, “after a few days of absolute stress”, when the fitter was there for only 1 day. With regards to the doors, I understand the joiner spoke to your partner and was told to leave the doors and that the builder would refit the doors for you.

I spoke to your mother who was very understanding and spoke calmly throughout my conversation even as you shouted in the background. It wasn’t ideal that the fitter was going on holiday the following morning but we couldn't do anything about that. You mention it was bad practice for a joiner to work the day before he is due to go away on holiday. I am sure all companies or trade persons would love extra holidays but people need to earn a living. I texted the fitter as I promised and he called me and said he would come and see you on his return. I believe he has done this.

Parting shot - The term “avoid like a plague“. We as a company have worked very hard to establish ourselves in a very busy marketplace and pride ourselves in the customer service we offer. Yes, sometimes we can get it wrong – we are human after all. However, comments like yours affect all members of staff and not just owners. If we do get it wrong, we will always work with our customers and endeavour to put it right.
