Poor quality tea lights

Poor quality tea lights, burn unevenly, kept going out, I wish I’d seen the other reviews here, I would not have purchased them.

I ordered an item online

I ordered an item online. When it came the item was in very poor/damaged condition. It took days for them to respond to each email. Eventually I got my money back but not for delivery which was to my cost.

A very slow and painful process, very slow customer service. I will not be buying from this company again!

This is about the blend your own…

This is about the blend your own workshop. It is not a recent experience but it’s been bothering me and decided to review. I attended hoping to be able to understand fragrance better and design a candle that would hit the spot and save me £££s on diptyque and the like, after having attended the candle making workshop (whose the price was advertised wrong on the site, and rather than accept that, they asked me to pay up more). On the day the 2 guys who created the brand were not involved at all in the workshop, although they were present but spent their time emailing. They left the teaching to a young woman who while personable, did not seem to be able to answer any of my questions, for example about which fragrances worked well together to create particular moods or smells. I left feeling I’d learnt nothing more than I could have gleaned from the internet. We were left to experiment in a rather directionless way with the various fragrances available. I don’t feel my knowledge of fragrance creation was advanced in any way.

Bad customer service

Bad customer service. The shop assistant (asian girl) was rude to me, would never go back. I asked her a question which she refused to answer and I couldn't believe it. All I asked was the origin of the candles. She told me to leave the shop.

Lovely people

The people who work at Earl of East in Coal Drops Yard are SO lovely, they literally made my day. All so friendly and warm and chatty! (and it's a beautiful shop with beautiful things)

Candle making workshop isn't worth the cost

The candle making workshop costs £55pp, in which you get some good information on candles, a brief history of Earl of East and then the activity is very minimal. The practical part of the workshop lasts in total about 5 minutes; you stick 2 labels on a jar, glue the wick in the jar, pour some oil from one container into another, stir it into the wax and then pour that into the candle jar. That's it. You pay £55 to spend 5 minutes 'making' your candle and the rest is sitting on tiny uncomfortable stools, crammed in so tightly with too many people around a small table, hearing information. You're then encouraged to spend the rest of the allocated workshop time browsing their shops whilst you wait for your candle to set.

I feel so incredibly ripped off at the cost of this workshop. It's not a workshop, it's a talk with a short 'activity'. If you want to save yourself some pennies don't bother booking the workshop, just buy the candle!
