EBS make dreams come true!
EBS are the best bank in Ireland with regard to mortgages hands down. Most negative reviews are from people who have not or are unwilling to deal with a human. How can you expect a great service with some sort of rapport? EBS have given me an exceptional service every single time. Don’t believe people who are not willing to go and sit with a human. Fortunately we are far away from all automation as a society. Go and meet your local branch manager before writing nonsense!
The online banking is terrible
The online banking is terrible. It's hit or miss whether you can log in or not. Constantly getting a server error response for the last 36 hours.

I tried to log in yesterday and kept getting "server error".
The internet application is useless, so I assumed it was playing up again, but oddly enough my PC login would not work either.
I phoned for help. it was refused. Even generic solutions like try reloading the application were not allowed it seems.
The reason to decline help was after giving them my personal details, card details and all the other bits of information, I simply could not recollect my last purchase on the account.
I would have to go to the village three miles away, make a purchase and tell them in order to get help.
When I pointed out how stupid and ridiculous it was to use a debit with a contactless feature to validate security, the logic seemed totally beyond them.
I can only assume that the lack of help and the poor and erratic operation of their smartphone application is a deliberate ploy to get rid of customers.
Fortunately this is not my only account, in fact the reason I don't use it more frequently is the almost useless smartphone application anyway.
This bank lacks the absolute basics
Over and over again this bank disappoints. It is not user friendly. No online app. I tried to take money out via bank transfer and got told the bank doesn't do that - they could only give me a check or cash. To open a savings account you have to go in person. I had all the documents ready as per the website and when I arrived the staff scoffed at me and said I need an appointment to open a savings account; but then they couldn't offer me an appointment between 12 and 1 ever, which is the only time I can be free between the hours of 10 and 4 Monday to Friday. Also you cannot find information online such as the minimal online transfer amount (which I think now is 2000)
All I can say is WOW
All I can say is WOW! If anyone is thinking of going down the mortgage route, get onto Graham Davis in the douglas branch. From the start of our initial meeting to the very end, he was always on hand, always available and always willing to help and advise. He made the process so easy and comfortable and I really cannot fault EBS or Graham!

I got a mortgage from EBS and I wish to thank Gabriela Murphy from Wexford EBS, she made the process very easy. I can say because of Gabriela and EBS we owned a house.
Proper guidance from Gabi helped me and my wife to arrange all documents and and without any tension we received the mortgage. We got the mortgage approval very fast because of the quick response and reply from Gabi.

The whole mortgage process was explained to me in such a simple and easy way. Paul in the Dundalk branch was amazing! Kept me in the loop constantly and was so helpful with any questions I had. He went the extra mile and was always extremely accommodating in every way. Would highly recommend for a mortgage!!

EBS do not answer phones, the staff in the different branches are clueless, not helpful what so ever.
The worst service I have ever got from a building society. Stay clear unless you want to waste your time with unhelpful people. They email back saying they have no clue . Useless shower
I woul like to give a shout out and…
I woul like to give a shout out and thank you to the lady chauffeur that drove the bus today on 19 of Feb 2025 from de Rijp to Amsterdam Centraal lijn 305. I stepped in the bus at 8:30 in Middenbeemster de Buurt as always on my way to work at Zuid. The chauffeur (blond lady) saw huge traffic jam before de IJtunnel and did the detour driving us to Noord where we could take a metro do Centraal/Zuid and therefor I (and I suppose many other passangers) was not late to work due to traffic and arrived at the same time as per usual at my office. This was very qick and smart action and i wanted to acknowledge that and say big thank you to this amazing woman!
Truly Terrible Online & IT
EBS are simply not reliable for banking services. It real is a coin flip whether their debit card is going to work, of if their Authenticator app is going to work. If you like the idea of not having access to your money while abroad, or when you change phone, or any number of normal events, then EBS is just for you. If you want a functional, reliable online banking experience, then EBS are a painful train wreck.

Anyone going for a mortgage I wouldn’t pick the EBS it took me this long to give a review as I was so annoyed. 2020 with Covid I also was due to go on maternity leave and asked could we put our mortgage on hold for these months and we were told no never missed a payment in 12 years and also had a letter my my employee to say my job will be still there after the 9 months still said no when trying to live of the standard paternity package with a new baby and another two kids at home our only option was to ask to hold it but they wouldn’t. Even other banks were putting people mortgage on hold due to Covid and esb wouldn’t I had a genuine reason because of this we had to take out a loan to pay off our mortgage for the 9 months seriously hate this bank

I normally have a good experience with dealing with EBS customer service but today was a first with EBS. The girl who answered the phone started the conversation without even an Hello.. All I got was Ebs Rachel speaking what's your name. She was actually so rude in her interaction that I was shocked 😲 and was close to ending the call only I needed to activate my card. I'm of the older generation where manners is quality. For all this girl knew I could have been on the brink of harming myself and her attitude could have being the last straw. She may have being treated badly by a previous customer.. Wasn't my fault. Manners don't cost anything and I have worked in hotel and customer service most of my life.. 30+ years. I was speaking to a girl last week and she was an absolute delight and I wish I could remember her name but that girl today should not be dealing with ppl with that kind of vulger attitude. No one knows what another is going through so be kind.
