50% of windows needed replacing

We bought a Barratts house 2022. In that time we have needed 7 windows replaced. All Emplas windows.
Another window has blown recently so now have to pay £50 for a visit to see the size of window to be replaced (even though they already had this measurement and have been out for this window before) then another £100 to fit the window at a later date. So windows from this company will last less than 4 years it seems.
The front door had to be visited by barratts 4 times to fix the huge gap.

Would i buy from this company? Definately not. Barratts really went with a poor company seeing other reviews.

Edit. Emplas have since been in touch and offered to waver the fee which is positive. Probably just an unlucky batch but happy they are sorting it.

This is our first dealing with Emplas…

7th October 2025

The remedial work needed was carried out today and the door operates like it has never done before. It’s good that Emplas managed to put it right.
All sorted so we are happy!

29th September

Today a Director from Emplas came out to see the door. This in itself was impressive and has restored my faith in this company.
I have confidence that this problem will be resolved in the very near future.
It’s good to know that Emplas are a company who will respond to customer complaints.

——————————————————————————

This is our first dealing with Emplas and we are totally unimpressed.
We live in a Mccarthy Stone retirement development and when we bought our apartment in May 2024, we were assured that we had a two year warranty period.
We have a door that opens to a Juliette balcony and from the outset we were concerned that it didn’t seem to operate as we would have expected. We first mentioned this on 15th June 2024. Then came winter and the door was shut until the summer of 2025 -still well within the two year warranty period. So in mid June this year we finally reported it as an issue.
It took until August 11th before anyone from Emplas came to visit. He explained that he hadn’t got his usual van and therefore didn’t have the parts required but would return.
On the 11th September we are told that the door will be fixed on 17th September. Great - but then we hear that we must pay almost £100. Apparently it is not covered by warranty because we must have used “brute force” on it. At this point I should explain that we are two pensioners who do not have enough “brute force” to open a jar of jam!
We had someone who knows about these things to look at our door and this conclusion was reached,

“ Experience suggests that it is much more likely that the door was misaligned and that creates pressure on the locking mechanism. It’s probable that the heat of this summer resulted in an expansion of the uPVC doors, affecting the alignment with the frame and putting further pressure on the locking mechanism – this is the likely reason that it failed completely in June. It is possible that it was poorly fitted in the first place”.

So we reached the conclusion that this company seek to wriggle out of their warranty agreement.

As such we will take further advice and seek to recover our costs accordingly - we know that we haven’t caused the damage so Emplas are accusing us of being untruthful and, as such, it is now very much a matter of principle.

I shall update accordingly.

17th September

Despite McCarthy Stone advising Emplas that we were not willing to pay for work which should be done under warranty and cancelling the appointment for today, they turned up.
I even emailed them on Monday to advise them that their appointment was cancelled. They chose to ignore us.
In my email on Monday, I informed them that they had 20 days to sort it or we would be taking them to the small claims court. They have 17 working days left.
We have now had two “experts” agree with us about the cause of the fault.

You begin to see just how disorganised this company is?

Update 21st September

In fairness this company have now responded and we are hoping to arrange a site meeting with the Director who deals with these matters.
We shall see.

Wouldn’t recommend..

I purchased a newly built property a few months ago, and Emplas is the window contractor here. They supplied gas-filled glass units. So far, we've experienced issues with locks, seals, faulty glass, and uneven window frames. Overall, the product quality is very poor. Many of my neighbours have also had problems with blown double glazing, which is quite unappealing—it looks awful. These units are only between a few months and three years old. I would never choose this company as a contractor.

Windows were installed about 3 years…

Windows were installed about 3 years ago and over that time the window was deteriorating, hazy colour with circular suction marks on the interior, also covered in in rectangular marks on the inside, looks awful looking out of the kitchen window, installer informed me today that they will replace but another purchaser locally has a similar problem, would you trust Emplas to replace your window after what has happened? I will be writing the same review on trustpilot and other websites unless this is resolved with a full refund.

Excellent work done quickly and efficiently

I'm not a trader but a homeowner. Emplas were contracted by another company to install double glazing in my house today. A large team of fitters arrived exactly when they were scheduled to (8am) and worked through until 5pm without apparently stopping for a break. Their work is exemplary; they removed and replaced 6 windows in a day and even cleaned up after themselves.

I cannot recommend Emplas highly enough.

window pane replacement…

I needed a window pane replaced because the seal had gone and I had condensation in-between the double glazing. I contacted EMPLAS and was dealt with by Stacey Moore, Commercial Aftercare Co-ordinator who was helpful and dealt with this matter swiftly. A repair was arranged and the windowpane has been replaced.
Good aftercare and customer service.

Faulty Windows, No Accountability – Avoid Emplas!

Extremely DISSAPOINTED with Emplas for their complete lack of responsibility regarding the failure of all four windows in our home. These windows were installed just two and a half years ago as part of a new build, but now every single one is faulty. The builder’s warranty (Curo) has expired after two years, and Emplas claims their warranty is also only two years, so they're unwilling to help—even though every window has its own individual issue.

One of the most concerning problems is with a fire exit window, which has locked itself shut despite being properly maintained. This is a MAJOR SAFETY RISK for me and my partner in case of a fire.

Another window doesn’t lock at all, meaning it can be pushed open even with the handle down, creating a SERIOUS SECURITY RISK. Most insurance companies wouldn’t accept a claim with a window that can’t be secured.

At the back of the house, another fire exit window’s lock is permanently stuck, and it feels like it could fail at any moment—leaving us with no fire escape options if it does.

The fourth window is so stiff that if we try to open it, it’s likely to break just like the others.

We’ve had multiple repair companies come out to quote for the repairs, all stating that the locks used were of cheap quality and not the standard locks used within the industry. These repairs will cost us hundreds of pounds, and Emplas is doing nothing to help.

They recommended two local tradespeople in our area who use Emplas products, so we reached out to them for help. The first contact number was invalid, and the second company only supplies windows, meaning they couldn’t handle repairs. This ended up being completely unhelpful.

Additionally, I came across another 1-star review where the customer was offered a "replacement lock free of charge," despite the hardware being outside the 2-year warranty. This raises the question of double standards—what exactly determines whether you're eligible for a replacement or not?

I cannot recommend this company at all—poor quality products and poor customer support to back them up.

EMPLAS not abiding by warranty

Very disappointing to find that Emplas are refusing to repair the failed patio door (that has failed in a manner that presents a danger to life fire hazard). The door was supplied with a new build property and the developer (CALA Homes) warranty (2 years) has run out. One would assume the EMPLAS 10 year warranty would hold true - but no they have so far refused to assist in a matter that would cost them pennies to remediate versus the hundreds of £ it will now cost me to remediate.

Thank you for contacting the Emplas Commercial Aftercare team. We’re sorry to hear about the problems you have experienced with the French door at your property.

Our New Build Guarantee provides 2-year cover on hardware (parts only), differing from the Emplas Trade Guarantee, designed for independent installers of our products and their customers. The French door in question was supplied to Cala Homes and installed in October 2021, therefore no longer covered by the standard New Build Guarantee.

Following your previous correspondence, and our offer of a replacement lock free of charge, we are also willing to send an engineer to your property to both inspect the French door and fit the new lock. On this occasion, the engineer visit will be at no cost to you.

We hope that this will resolve the issue and help to alleviate the frustration you have experienced.

I am being very generous with the 1…

I am being very generous with the 1 star !!!!
Have a house built 2 and a half years ago with windows installed by Emplas . Multiple windows do not now open properly and catches are stuck or loose. Have complained to Emplas who say the warranty is only 2 years so will do nothing to resolve the problem even though there is obviously a defect with the product.( one of the windows has barely been used) I would definitely not buy from this company unless you want to replace handles/catches every few years! There are only 16 reviews on this site and 5 of them are 1 star .... need I say any more?

Thank you for getting in touch with our Customer Service team. We’re sorry you have experienced problems in your home, one of the many properties in the development area with our products fitted as part of the new-build specification. Our hardware products have a two-year guarantee from the date of installation, so unfortunately, in this case the guarantee has now expired.

Another Great Experience with Emplas

Many Thanks to the Emplas team of drivers that delivered our frames & glass last Tuesday. What a great team & an asset to Emplas.

They turned up on time in an Emplas branded lorry neatly presented in Emplas uniform. They quickly assessed the area outside of our unit & parked the lorry in a way to make unloading efficient, whilst being mindful of other businesses on the industrial estate who needed to move around the site.

Both drivers were cheerful, friendly & once they had confirmed the order with us they swiftly set about helping with unloading. There was a constant flow of good humour & willingness to be helpful. They genuinely seemed to enjoy their job & that showed in their behaviour & attitude towards the task.

Thanks Emplas
