Think Twice Before Ordering: Engine Quality and Refund Challenges

We are sharing this review to inform other repair shops and businesses of our experience working with this engine supplier.

Issue #1: Engine Condition Misrepresented
Our first concern involved an engine sold as low mileage. After delivery and further inspection—including research and valve adjustments—we determined the engine exhibited signs of high mileage and significant wear. The condition did not match the representation provided at the time of sale.

Issue #2: Core Charge and Conflicting Information
We later ordered another engine and clearly explained to the sales representative that it would not be installed for approximately one month. We requested early delivery so it would be ready when the vehicle entered the shop. The representative verbally assured us that the core charge would be refunded in full whenever the engine was picked up.

When we followed up regarding the core refund, we were informed by the owner that the refund was denied due to a 30-day return policy noted on paperwork stapled to the back of the delivery documents. This policy had not been verbally communicated during the ordering process. The owner stated that small shops were not a priority for their business and offered only store credit instead of the promised refund. While we accepted the credit to proceed with our work, the handling of this situation was concerning.

Issue #3: Rebuilt Engine Quality – Recent Order
A more recent rebuilt engine from this supplier developed an oil pan leak, apparently originating from sealing work performed prior to shipment.

Issue #4: Rebuilt Engine Quality - December 2025 Order
Upon inspection, we also identified quality concerns, including low-grade front and rear main seals, inconsistent or excessive silicone application, and missing sealant in critical areas such as the timing cover.

To prevent further issues, we have resealed the engine ourselves, despite it being sold as rebuilt and installation-ready.

Overall Experience
Throughout these transactions, communication was inconsistent, product representations were not consistently honored, and additional labor was required on our end to address quality issues. The company continued to contact us attempting to secure business, despite prior issues and feedback from other shops warning against ordering from them.

Conclusion
Based on our experience, we cannot recommend this supplier to other repair shops—particularly small or independent businesses. Shops should be aware that additional labor, warranty work, and disputes over policy interpretation may arise.

We are sharing this review to help other businesses make informed decisions when selecting an engine supplier.

So many seals leaking on a year old remanufactured engine

The rear main seal began leaking and became a problem about six months later. I was informed that the warranty had run out, and seals are not covered under warranty. One year later, the crank seal and the valve cover seals are leaking. I am informed there is nothing they can help me with. The rear main seal will cost me ~$700 to replace. I am also having the valve cover seals replaced at my expense, and will have the crank seal replaced next. My driveway is a mess. Engineworld said the seals should be checked during installation. This many leaks are not an acceptable outcome after spending thousands on a remanufactured engine.

Engine World is the best

Sorry to hear Engine World has lot's of bad reviews my experience was wonderful my used engine I bought from Engine World was for my 1999 Toyota Corolla VE in 2012. I'm writing this review to let everyone know it's been 13 years now and that engine in my car still runs like a champ. My old 99 Corolla passes brand new 2025 new cars on the freeway it's a beast and everyone looks like where was that Engine made plus it's the original transmission in the car Engine World sold me my Engine at about 70,000 miles so in the 13 years now I put a total of 135,000 miles on the engine now and still no problems, Engine World did a wonderful job on
the rebuilt or whatever they did on mine. Everyone knows this you have to maintenance the car so it won't overheat that causes engine damage quickly, do oil changes, tune ups, spark plugs changes, radiator coolant flushes and make sure your coolant stays in the full level, drain old and refill with new transmission fluid according to your owners manual also replace your serpentine drive belt most people don't know if it's old or slipping that can cause your engine to overheat because the water pump isn't getting the proper tension. I've done all this maintenance yearly for the past 13 years and that Engine is on point not missing a beat everyone for years keeps asking me to buy it and I say no. Older car's are easier to work on with the You Tube Video's now and when you buy the engine from Engine World you have to make sure all the above I wrote in maintenance is done before the person who installs the engine in your car so that the engine will operate smoothly and not overheat plus the engine has to be attached to a lot of other part electrical, the starter, so make sure you do all the above and I think it comes down to who you have install the engine in your car I has an excellent mechanic who installed my engine in my car from Engine World. I hope the above advice helps car's are a pain but when proper maintenance is done you will get over 300,000 miles on a Toyota Corolla I'm nearing it with my engine world engine and after 300,000 miles come on what more can we all ask from a car that's a lot of work done running. I only buy Toyota car's they like we all know are known for reliability even in there older year. Research your car make and model before you buy and engine from Engine World and you will see probably that car had recall for engine problems already. So my advice avoid car make and models with known engine problems by checking recalls don't buy that model sadly from Engine World and your probably saying yeah but I want to replace it with the same used engine because my transmission is still good but here's the problem. That
wouldn't be Engine World fault on the replacement engine because the manufacturer who sold the car new issued a special code recall years ago about that problem when engine World rebuilds one the problem can still occur again because it was a design flaw to begin with in the factory!!!! Just like my 99 corolla engine from Engine World has a known problem with piston slap and what causes that is a design flaw once again from the factory when the car was new at Toyota they issued a recall. Like I said above you have to take care of the car especially if it has a flaw somewhere in the engine focus on that point in helping the car oil changes regularly stops the piston slap in my car and the pistons from building up grim on them which will cause overheating or the engine to fail. I hope this info helps somebody it's help my car run 13 years. And now I will brag a little this car has taken me to see beautiful places here in California it took me to Burney Falls to see the 150 feet waterfall a must see for everyone in California and that 99 Corolla climbed 5000 feet in elevation I tell you in the mountains and the temperature gauge dropped below the middle cooling off even better because when your in the mountain the air is denser so cool. So I drove 431 miles in one day there and back home. And yesterday I drove to Bodega Bay 130 there and back home so beautiful the Pacific ocean. So to Engine World I truly say thank you SO MUCH a car note back in 1999 was about $150 a month times that by 12 months that's $1800 a year times that by 13 years I drove this car that's $23,400 I have saved now to buy a new car plus keep this one I never understand why if people have the circumstances. Once you pay off your car don't trade it in have fun and save the same car note to yourself for the same years 60 months, 72 months in a saving to yourself and you have cash to pay for a car that's what I did. Hope this helps sorry if it seems like rambling to some. Best wishes to all.

Stay away from these guys

If I could, I would give Engine World 0 Stars. If you are a gambling person and are feeling lucky, you may consider buying a used engine from these guys, but unless you want to join the ranks of those scammed, stay away from them and take your business somewhere else. They sold me a bucket of bolts passing for "a used engine in good working condition", and their 6 months Warranty is not worth the paper it's written on. When my mechanic got the engine for the swap in my car, he warned me that the engine was rusted and in bad shape and he had to do several repairs to it before installation...."they just spray-painted it gray to make it look good", he said. Well, I live in Tucson, AZ almost 1,000 miles from their warehouse in Oakland and didn't have any other choice but to proceed. After the installation, the engine lasted 17 miles before it croacked. Even though it was under the 6 month Warranty period, they refused to honor it and I ended up taking them to Small Claims Court in Oakland, CA. I won the Court case for the full judgement plus Court Fees, but they sure made me jump thru hoops before I was able to collect the full amount they owed me. Their lack of decorum and integrity, short of being sleazy, provide zero recourse in their so-called "customer service". Other folks with similar experiences want to report these guys to the California Department of Consumer Fraud. Again, save yourself the money and the headaches and do your shopping somewhere else.

Got a 22r engine- should be one of the toughest on the planet.
Warranty for 6 months and 7 months later it blew a ring.
Hadnt even put 500 miles on it.
Took it to 3 diff. shops who all said the same thing= bunk engine.
One shop even was kind enough to call their customer service for me and explain the situation to them.
Weeks of back and forth with the them and NOTHING.
NO refund, NO rebate, ZILCH, ZERO.
EVEN IF I sent them back the engine and they determined it to be a failure on their part, toss off as it was out of warranty by 30 damn days!
This POS even suggested I buy ANOTHER engine from them!!!!!
DO NOT BUY FROM THEM.

The engine I paid for technically lasted a year, but it sputtered, stalled, and potentially destroyed the rest of my exhaust system because it was so filthy when they put it in. I was always afraid to drive long distances, and the car never had the performance it once had with the new engine.
Engineworld scams you -- you pay quite a bit of money for an engine, which does not include labor costs, for a very minimal warranty. Buyer beware.

Good engine

Good engine, worked great. As a mechanic myself and installing this engine in my car, I recommend checking water pump and replacing it because mine was very corroded from water sitting in there other than that a little expensive but cheaper than most.
And you also have to exchange your parts from your old motor to the new one for smog purposes and etc.

Told them my cars specific year model and engine block. They gave me the wrong engine block from Europe that didn't has a knock sensor they assured me it wouldn't be a issue but the car can't pass smog. Totally took advantage of me. Be cautious with this company.
