Epik is an activist organization enforcing their own arbitrary, opaque morality

Epik has decided to insult their customers and I don't know why. Here are some quotes from their social media:

"Yeah. We're into freeze peach... but not free speach. Our liberal employees are cancelling kiwifarms!"

Kiwi Farms is a controversial but legal website. While it's understandable to dislike them, and I certainly do, what's concerning is how Epik has declared themselves moral arbiters over their customers. They have made it clear they are willing to do this to anybody. Here are some more unhinged quotes from their official Twitter:

"I think you caught us. It was woke liberal employees here cancelling you because they didn't like the hate speech on your site."

Hate speech is not defined by the law in the United States. This means Epik is deciding on their own what constitutes hate speech and is enforcing their opaque definition. Continuing:

"What do you want us to say. We have a bunch of woke liberals working here and they wanted to cancel Kiwifarms. We're not really focused on supporting free speech anymore. Just trying to be a good domain registrar."

So Epik is allowing "woke liberals", whatever that means, to "cancel" a website because a few employees simply wanted to. This is from their official account. This is what Epik wants it's customers to know about them. Clearly they are not a serious company trying to do business. Apparently personal politics comes before customer service. How are you supposed to work with a company who makes that their official line?

"We screwed this up many different ways. And are learning. We are trying to establish better processes and guidelines so that we don't have employees go rogue on us. What is CP? 5 employees see it differently, so we are undergoing some hard questions to try to get better. sorry"

This isn't a professionally worded statement, it's a slap in the face to anybody expecting to business with them on the level. To be clear, Epik has now falsely accused Kiwi Farms of hosting child pornography and done so many times. When challenged on why they haven't reported it to the police, this is their response. Given their actions today, their apology is clearly sarcastic. At the time of posting this review, all their defamatory tweets are still live. On the topic of child pornography, they gave this reply but conspicuously did not mention informing authorities which would be the morally and legally correct thing to do:

"We would obviously think pedophiles and child molesters are horrible and hope karma finds them soon. Maybe a semi truck will run them over."

Why is a domain registrar wishing a semi truck runs over anybody? All they have to do is call the FBI. We have a system in place to punish criminals, it is not Epik's place to supplant that. Nobody asked them to. Furthermore, law enforcement would listen to a complaint from Epik. But Epik won't do the right thing and inform any authorities after claiming to have witnessed a crime against children. Why is that?

"Epik offers .25 over cost domain registrations. So .com is 9.99 initially and upon renewal. We're here to support you even if there is scum on your website."

Perhaps this is why. Epik is willing to support illegal websites so long as it does not run afoul of the personal politics of their employees. This does not instill faith for people simply trying to run a business. Epik expects their customers to conform to a set of morals they do not and will not state. How are you supposed to do business with a company like that when they have a history of arbitrarily pulling the plug on websites they simply do not like?

"We believe in Frees Peach"

What does that even mean?

"We do not seize domains. Sorry if you have come to that conclusion. We are here to support domain owners. .com's are 9.99 initially and upon renewal. Thank you."

This is a lie, Epik has a history of seizing domains without warning and they know it. At this point Epik is openly gaslighting their customers.

"We didn't take that domain from the owner. We were forced to help the owner switch to another registrar by the US authorities. I believe it is registered in Canada now."

This is in reference to KiwiFarms.net, a domain they attempted to seize but were prevented of doing so by US law. This is a tacit admission that they do in fact steal domains. Why does Epik do this? Perhaps this will clear things up:

"Epik LLC purchased the assets of Epik.com in June of 2023. The old owners did a lot of awful things. We operate very differently."

So Epik was purchased in 2023 and now operates not as a business but as an activist organization. Is this the sort of people you can do business with? I'm sure somebody will say yes, but for the vast majority of us just trying to provide a livelihood for ourselves and our families, Epik is not a company to be trusted.
In fact they are openly saying so unambiguously.

Epik LLC is a separate entity under different ownership from the company and people you are referring to. We specialize in new .com registrations and renewals for $9.99 with 25 cent pricing cost plus pricing on over 550 domain extensions. Sorry about your experience. You probably should reach out to support@masterbucks.com regarding your issue.

Crooks, Google them, they are a scam.

These crooks transferred the ownership of my domain to another person in exchange for money and never compensated me for it. Stay away, ICANN and the police should be all over them. Just Google them and you will find stories about the fraud this company is.

Resilient domain registration

Epik is the registrar for many domains that are important for people that care about free speech rights, so I used them to register domains that were likely to receive bogus takedown requests by activists.

The Epik service was resilient while I used it, but I didn't renew my service.

In 2021, Epik was hacked and customer information was published.

In 2022, Epik became financially distressed, perhaps due to mismanagement.

And in 2023, Epik lost an important lawsuit that caused corporate restructuring.

They took my domains! Epik Failure

Epik had the audacity to demand $99 from me to retrieve my domains, despite being well within the 30-day grace period. Their systems were not available the times I attempted to renew. Naturally, it's all my fault. And the cherry on top? They claim they "have" to charge me $99 a pop, but can miraculously sell them for $12 on NameLiquidate in just days. After all my unwavering loyalty and bringing them new users, this is my grand reward. How wonderfully considerate of them.

Broken website, terrible service, holding account balances hostage

This place is a joke. I had one domain stuck with them that I needed to transfer away - otherwise I know better than to do business with Epik.

Of course, I couldn't check out and couldn't spend the account credit I had with them. Couldn't check out at all actually - they put some sort of limit on my account so I couldn't spend the $70 I had sitting in my account.

I finally had to add *more money* to my Epik account credit before they'd let me spend the credits I already had. Also, they don't take PayPal anymore (I assume they've been banned from PayPal) or anything but credit cards - so I had to put my credit card into this insecure website which has already been hacked once and had all of its customer information exposed.

After all that, they even screwed up the auth code for the transfer.

But I think, finally, after dealing with "Emily" on Live Chat and "Ross" on the phone for an hour, I have finally initiated the transfer on my domain out of this terrible registrar.

We'll see though - they've recently changed their policy and won't approve transfers out until they can reach me on the phone (check their new TOS). So we'll see what happens. I have a feeling I'm not done with this bunch of crooks yet.

They answer their Support Phone Line!

After getting fed up trying to get some account support on my old registrar, I decided to give Epik.com another try as my go-to domain parking-lot... I'm glad I did, and my Faith is restored (for now)... I had some questions and called before sign-up/ dom transfer, it was immediately picked up by someone that actually knows enough to answer my questions and not just read copy off their site. Refreshing. I'm impressed with the "new Epik" so far and hope I never have to transfer again or update this review:)

Epik/Masterbucks stole us US$1.5M (July 2023 update)

STAY AWAY FROM ROB MONSTER, BRIAN ROYCE & THEIR COMPANIES EPIK /MASTERBUCKS IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR MONEY AND ASSETS

You may have already read somewhere about this 'horror story'. Epik/Masterbucks stole us US$1.5M by not allowing us to withdraw our funds (old story).
Recently both portals have been acquired by a new company but PAY ATTENTION because this's just the beginning of a new bigger scam era !

We were sure to recover our funds due to the recent acquisition so we hired an attorney who approached them by asking for a full refund of our credit.
After few days of silence, they replied to have never had any business relationship either with me (Luigi M. Vigna) nor with my company DomainEmpire Ltd so asked to cease and desist with these fake accusations.
Simultaneously, they've smartly terminated our 4 accounts to leave no tracks about our credit on their servers but they did a terrible mistake here because we had already saved a screenshot of our full account statements (either our Epik/Masterbucks accounts).

We're now making these screenshots available to the general public (you'll soon find them for free everywhere online with more details about the full story).

We're doing this with the best intentions to stop these scammers activity once for all in the interest of all domainers and to send both companies to bankruptcy as quickly as possible.

Let everyone knows about this story because they're continuing to steal money from hundreds of unaware domainers every month !

They're working hard to build a new fake scenario around these companies to continuing with their fraudolent activity so it's of cricual importance working together to stop this fraud.

They're still stealing any single cent they can from all new new customers so we should cooperate together in our mutual interest to stop this long time scam forever.

Terrible. Poor customer service; I never received the domain I ordered, and they don't accept responsibility for their mistakes either. Because of their negligence, I lost money and time. My advice will be to Keep off!
I have decided to Choose "Plutonium" now because they are profit-oriented and I am amazed by its investment methods and management structure.

They stole from me 6000usd, do not use this scamming service, at your own risks... They paid us on masterbucks by using their escrow service and they blocked withdrawals... And now to steal people's money they switched to Epik LLC to not give back masterbucks money to their owners.

They are criminals, rob monster should learn more about his religion.

Best hosting platform... (IMO)

I transferred my domains from goDollarDaddy around two years ago and I have always been impressed by this companies customer support. NEVER have I had a single issue that was not resolved with 1 call. I'm confused by some of the negative reviews lately and I can only chalk it up to trolling. While I understand everyone's experiences are different, nothing in my experience with this company have shown me they would ever be in the running for a 1 or 2 star review. Craziness. I currently hold around a dozen domains here and host about half of them. The best experience I've personally had with a hosting company in my last 14 years in the web world. Keep up the good work Epik!
