Terrible experience with Connells…

Terrible experience with Connells mortgage broker. I paid them £900 first to start and waiting 6 months and nothing happened after 6months.
All the time i was chasing the broker and Lender broaker didn’t respond the emails and calls. I waste my money and 6months time.
I advise people to do not wasting your time and money with connells mortgage broakers.
They get your money first and give you shit service.
I paid £900 and didn’t receive anything from them.
Please don’t waste your time and money with them.

Excellent service from Katie

I had the fortunate experience of being attended to by a wonderfully professional young lady, whose name I’m hoping I’m spelling correctly as Katie. She’s with the Ipswich branch. Throughout my association with her I have found her to be nothing but professional, friendly and ever ever so helpful and all served with a radiant smile!

Thank you Katie for making the experience so pleasant and will definitely be coming back to you for future estate requirements and guidance. A true asset to the company. Keep up the good work.

Mortgage broker service

Our mortgage broker Lee Peck was very informative and supportive throughout the process of applying for a mortgage and buying our property. As first time buyers we found his guidance invaluable and it made the whole process a lot less stressful.

The single worse service ever, absolutely usless. AVOID.

We wnt with this mob as they were such a large company and promised the world. We should have known......
They were utterly useless, incorrectly valued our house by their own admission. Listed it in the branch window for months after telling us we needed to drop the value at the wrong price!!! There was absolutely zero contact from them, we had to chase them. They produced 2 viewings in months. The branch manager was frankly rude and obnoxious, a nightmare to deal with.
I raised a formal complaint, waited weeks for them to finish it. When the outcome arrived they'd ignored everything I said and did nothing.

Don’t waste your money. You can get photographs done and put your property on Rightmove yourself as that’s all this estate agent appears to have done and save yourself thousands in commission on selling. There has been little communication through out the contract period and they have not shown any evidence of being proactive through out. Would I recommend…no

Absolutely the Worst Experience

Absolutely the Worst Experience — Avoid Connells Birmingham at All Costs

Our experience with Connells (Birmingham City Centre branch) was nothing short of appalling from start to finish.

1. Phone Calls Ignored for Days
Trying to get in touch with the branch was a nightmare. On multiple occasions, I called the office over 50 times within an hour, and not once did anyone answer. Emails would go unanswered for days, sometimes over a week. Even a formal complaint to Connells head office about this was completely ignored.

2. Withholding Offers and Acting in Their Own Interest
We later discovered Connells withheld a cash offer from us and never informed us. When questioned, they initially denied it — only to later admit it after being presented with evidence. Their excuse? That they were “acting in our best interests” because the buyer was part of a chain. This was a major decision made without our consent, and it's hard to see it as anything but unethical and manipulative.

3. Pressure to Stick with Buyer They Could Profit From
The buyer whose offer we had accepted was using Connells for both their mortgage and conveyancing, and we were too. Once we raised concerns with Connells about the withheld cash offer, they strongly pressured us not to reconsider or back out of the current sale. In hindsight, this was clearly because Connells stood to profit significantly from keeping that particular buyer in place — through commission, broker fees, and legal referrals. Their priority was never our best interests, only their own pockets.

4. Viewings Seemed Rigged Toward Investors
The first 10+ viewings arranged were exclusively from investors, all making insulting low-ball offers and planning to convert the property into an HMO. It felt like Connells were hand-picking investor buyers, possibly due to financial incentives such as referral fees, rather than matching us with serious residential buyers as we had requested.

5. Attempted to Overcharge Us
Connells also tried to overcharge us on fees, and only when we produced the original email agreement did they reluctantly honour the correct amount. Had we not kept written proof, we would have been forced to pay hundreds more than what was agreed.

At the very start of the process, Connells were extremely helpful and couldn’t do enough for us. But the moment we signed with them and the listing went live, everything went downhill. Communication became poor, their conduct turned self-serving, and their attitude shifted to being dismissive and manipulative. Their actions undoubtedly cost us a better sale and made the entire experience far more stressful than it needed to be.

Save yourself the stress and stay far away from Connells Birmingham.
If you need further proof, watch the BBC Panorama documentary “Undercover Estate Agent” — it reflects our experience almost exactly.

Abysmal from start to finish.

Abysmal from start to finish.
As an executor I was Selling my late mother’s house on behalf of her estate and helping my stepfather as he is a pensioner , we engaged Connells and opted for a ‘modern day auction method’ to do a hassle free, quick sale. Connells jumped at the opportunity and I knew full well that they would have to do very little for a decent gain BUT when the auction house CONNELLS CHOSE proved extremely inept and downright incompetent , Connells , who told me they were going to do all the running, continued to palm the whole thing of on me even when, after the umpteenth time of contacting Connells to deal with it , the auction date had come and gone without actually going ahead , I had spent almost one month and multiple phone calls to Connells without receiving a single reply, to get an actual auction date! IAMSOLD gave the most pathetic excuses when Connells EVENTUALLY complained to them and even then gave me the run around resulting in yet another call to Connells Headington branch manager and telling him for the forth or fifth time I wanted him to deal with it as IAMSOLD were so incredibly incompetent.
When a formal complaint was made after we had decided to terminate our contract, Connells threw the entire blame at IAMSOLD and that our contract was with IAMSOLD not Connells !!!!
I had never even heard of IAMSOLD until they got in contact along with Connells, I thought we had engaged Connells and that IAMSOLD conducted the auction in a joint effort along side Connells was the way it was explained, so it was shocking to say the least!
IAMSOLD admitted that their service was extremely poor BUT even though both Connells and IAMSOLD know this and I have it in writing, they still want their cut if anyone on the ‘list’ buys the house, what an absolute disgrace and joke.

SO MUCH FOR A QUICK SALE, all this mess took 10 weeks to go absolutely nowhere!!!

CONNELLS and IAMSOLD, I hope you cease trading for all your scummy tactics not just in the above for my family but the appalling business practices you are using to’scam’ hard working people in your underhand business methods as exposed by the BBC recently, absolutely disgusting.

UPDATE today, one week after I had cancelled our contract with IAMSOLD , as apparently I didn’t have a contract with Connells , I received this past weeks worth of marketing results from , how very interesting if we are no longer being promoted by you UPDATE:
Well it actually appears I was wrong when I said Connells were no longer promoting my mother and stepfather’s house, one week after the contract with Iamsold was cancelled, remember Connells said that the contract was not with them, they were still advertising it with no permission nor consent or contract!!! It took multiple calls by the new agent to get them to remove it from their site and again the manager didn’t even return their call when requested!

Avoid like the plague

Avoid like the plague. They employ borderline illegal sales practices to line their own pockets, at your expense. Take a look at the BBC article for more detail. Firms like this are the reason why we hate estate agents.

Have moved 33 times over the years

Have moved 33 times over the years. Have dealt with agents in different parts of the country multiple times. Never felt inclined to make the effort to rate one, but this one is the exception. Zero communication from their office. When contacted them 3 times engaged 3 different members of staff who all knew nothing about my property for sale, and were pretty much useless on a phone.

Unprofessional customer service

I was viewed one of their property and gave them offer in a same day on a spot and the next day over the phone. They said they would come back immediately. They did not come back at all. I phoned next week and they said they would come back. They did not at all. They do not have team communication between them at all. I phoned 2 weeks later and they said it had been sold. It's very frustrating not to let us know that the offer has not been taken due to....I recommend to my friends and family not to go them as they have poor customer service

Useless staff

Useless staff. Not one person delivered what was promised or required. Questions were not answered. Phone calls and emails were not returned. Asked to speak to a manager. Was told no manager in branch. Clerk said she spoke to the area manager who did not take on the issue at hand but told the clerk to pass on info email only for contact to make an offer for a property I was interested in. How could I make an offer if my questions about the property had not been answered!? My first offer was refused so I made a higher offer which was not submitted! As a result the property was sold to someone else by a more competent agent. Do not deal with Connells. I’m surprised they manage to sell anything at all!

Avoid Connells at all costs.

I used Connells est agents in Colchester to find new Tennants for me.. The tennants went on to fail private referencing after being put in situ. I was told by Connells the only way I could get landlord protection was if I paid them to collect the rent too. Knowing I couldn't get protection anywhere else. I believe that to be extortion and was offered minimal compensation. Avoid Connells at all costs. The person who put them in was told by Connells to investigate himself. In all my years of letting I've never experienced such a dreadful service. It's still not resolved as I haven't excepted their compensation offer and am taking further advice. I have proof of all I have written.

Avoid at all costs

Avoid at all costs. I had an extremely stressful experience selling my property through Connells. When the buyers mortgage issues came to light, Connells were unwilling to continue showing further prospective buyers around my property forcing me to stay with the 1st offer they received even thou they only had 7 weeks left on their mortgage offer which could not be extended. It defies belief that I only found out it was a 5% cash deposit, 95% mortgage on the actual day of exchange. I would never use this company again.

Appalling service from start to finish.

Appalling service from start to finish.
The staff at the Birmingham branch promised so much and didn't deliver on any level.
They failed to keep us updated, failed to market the property effectively and didn't reply to calls or emails.
They really didn't care and we withdrew from them at the earliest opportunity - it then took them over 3 weeks to return our keys.
Avoid at all costs!!

Harassment!

Connells is the worst estate agent I've dealt with. Just pure harassment start to finish. I enquired about a house and emailed them, they took it upon themselves to register me for their marketing emails and I was getting 2/3 per day plus 1/2 calls a day. When I called after mailing them twice to stop I spoke to a very rude guy who hung up on me. Put me completely off so I cancelled my viewing.
