I was robbed by a Euronet atm…

I was robbed by a Euronet atm yesterday. I went to withdraw €100 yesterday from a Euronet atm at a shop near my home. It did not dispense the cash but the transaction is still pending on my bank account. I want my money back. I rang the number on the side of the machine but the girl on the phone wasn't helpful. I phoned my bank today and they don't seem sure what can be done. I have been left with no grocery money because of Euronet

It is a total scam

It is a total scam. Don't use these ATMs at the Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Aereport.
Their ATMs don't give cash and there is no message to say that the operation did not go through. They let you insert your debt card and pin and then you don't even know whether your card was charged. It is a total scam and it should be made illegal. I called their number and they basically said that their network does not accept bancomat and debt cards. They take credit cards only. More important they say this is an European network, it does not accept Italian cards. But they have the monopoly of ATMs at the airport in Rome. Such a shame

Dear *insert your name*,

Our ATMs may levy a charge on transactions, including if you’re using a card originally issued overseas. Our charges are fully and clearly displayed before a transaction is approved by a customer and all customers are able to cancel their transaction at any time. I can assure you that our ATMs are not scams – we’re fully transparent with our charges and we operate in line with all relevant laws and regulations all the countries in which our ATMs are available.
_________________________________________________________________

To put it another way... They are fully aware and up front that they are going to SCREW YOU so if you want to be screwed, please use their ATM.

Advice: There is likely NO REASON you need to use an ATM anyways. When paying for something with your card ALWAYS select "local currency" and not the currency of your country.

If people stop using these ATM's then they would go out of business or at least remove the ATM's since unethical businesses aren't making money from them.

Educate yourself before you go outside of your country...

Basically a robbery in full daylight

Basically a robbery in full daylight. Last week I visited Copenhagen and visited a ATM machine in the reception hall to withdraw some money. As I punched in the wanted amount I noticed that the exchange rate was horrible - so I canceled the withdrawal. Card returned and no money to see, so I figured everything was OK, well not exactly, the money were deducted from my account anyway. How is this possible? I have noticed that this has occured to multiple persons here. If it were a normal person that did this they would be behind bars a long time ago, but i guess the rules does not apply to Euronet.

Dear Jan. We advise that if a customer has any issue with withdrawing cash, they should first contact the bank that issues their card, which will start a standard refund process. Once the issue has been fully investigated, a customer will be refunded where appropriate. This is a complex process which involves checking the logs of a cash dispenser and the physical cash balance in the ATM and can take a few weeks to resolve.

No response from Euronet

When you write a complaint and they don't agree with you, Euronet then choose to ignore you.
I have 3 times requested details of their Complaints Procedure and still waiting.
Once again a lack of transparency!

BIG TIME SCAM - wished I read your reviews .....

I used Euronet for the first time in Lisboa airport.
I will never use it again. I do travel the world, and it's the first
time I get caught in such a way ...
They pretend to charge you 3 or 4 Euros a transaction, but they
get you in the rate of exchange which is way far from reality.
In short Euronet screws you when you get say Euros and your bank account or credit card is denominated in another currency.
I got 400 Euros from my Canadian credit card, and I ended paying about 60 Euros in transaction fees.... I got cash from my credit card all the time, and all the time banks applied a fair xrate, but not Euronet.
PLEASE AVOID EURONET.

Dear Michel. We're sorry you feel you had a bad experience with one of our ATMs. We do go to great lengths to ensure our charges are clear - the total amount debited from account is displayed towards the end of a transaction and a customer is asked if they'd like to proceed on these grounds. Euronet is a publicly traded company and is fully compliant with the rules and regulations in the countries in which we operate, and our costs go towards the maintenance and servicing of our ATMs.

Here is a tale for the unwary!!

Here is a tale for the unwary! I used a prepaid Mastercard to withdraw 100 euros from an ATM in Italy. Entered PIN and amount then I was advised that the charge was 3.95 euros. I was given a touch screen option to cancel or proceed. I touched cancel and my card was immediately ejected. I assumed that the withdrawal had been cancelled. Took my card and walked away. I then discover I had been charged 103.95 euros. Made a claim and after about two months the claim was refused as cash was paid out. The ATM till roll, says that I accepted the fee, and cash was dispensed. I did NOT accept and no cash paid to me! The cancel option clearly did not work and the machine completed the transaction without my consent. I cannot take the matter further, because it is impossible for me to prove I cancelled the transaction, even though my wife was a witness. Why are fees not shown at the beginning of the transaction, because they are high, and you would not use Euronet if they were shown. Does the cancel option actually work? Not in my case.
Best to use machine at a reputable banks, but be careful it is not branded Euronet. No doubt the third party that found the cash in the machine was chuffed, hope it went to somebody deserving!
DO NOT USE EURONET! Many other ATMs are free or much cheaper.

Scammers

I visited their ATM and they took 500€ out of my balance and didn't give any money. Getting money back takes forever and many phone calls to the bank and to them, wich is not good when you are traveling! Also, fees were high as well but since It was Black Friday I was fool enough to withdraw. And if you happen to use other currency, they will f* you over with rates. DO NOT USE!

Nice to see you have so many positive comments here on TrustPilot as well, maybe someone should make stickers out of these reviews and post them to your ATM's. Very telling when you don't have a single positive review. Anyone working for this company should be ashamed.

Scam

Scam! Avoid at all costs and use ATMs of real banks. It's a rip-off. Even if you choose not to use their dynamic currency exchange which is extremely bad they still take almost 15% in fees and they show NO indication about this whatsoever. I can't understand how they are allowed to operate in the EU since the EU laws should forbid banks and other financial institutions to charge hidden ATM fees. Euronet does not display any info about extra fees, it might be because they are just a company that operates ATMs, they are US based and I think they are in the gray zone in the EU. They should be banned!

Hi Bogdan. We're sorry to hear you feel you've had a bad experience with one of our ATMs. All of our charges are fully transparent - our ATMs alert customers of the costs they will incur when withdrawing cash and ask users if they’d like to proceed on these grounds before they make a withdrawal. We operate alongside other providers and of course we entirely respect the right of customers to choose another ATM or use their bank, but our charges are fully transparent and clearly presented, and cover the ongoing costs related to maintaining and servicing our ATM facilities.

Rip-off

Rip-off, lousy rate and high ATM fees and you don’t know until you have completed your transaction.
