Don't use!

Was shocked when I read the positive reviews. It is cheap but I can see why. We were told via an online chat service that air freight takes 7 days and sea freight 6 weeks and pay on arrival. Our door to door air freight took 3 weeks and we had to go to the airport twice. We also had to pay £70 in charges at the airport. Our sea freight- it's been 4 weeks and it's not even left the UK.

'Pleasantly Surprised'

I have used other international shippers and movers before and their services cannot be compared to that which I experienced from you. The service was as planned timeous,professional,effective and front line staff especially Dwayne very efficient.

I have already communicated this to friends and family and will certainly utilise your services in the future.

Moving to Japan

The Polish guys who picked up our boxes were great. Very professional, skilled and friendly. I would have liked a little more feedback about the actual shipping and when it would be shipped, but otherwise everything is ok so far (The boxes haven't arrived in Japan yet)

Very slick process from pick up to delivery

We moved from Hampshire UK to British Columbia - the communication was excellent, the packing superb (nothing got damaged or broken at all), the whole process was very efficient and professional. The staff were friendly, helpful and quick to respond to questions. Highly recommended.

Excellent service

The crew packing our house contents were very professional and efficient. I would say they were the best team we have had on any of our removals. Service from quotes for move to actual move were trouble free, I would recommend this company to anyone considering a move.

Exceptionally Poor Service

We felt we had made a good decision after getting a few quotes, however unfortunately things did not turn out as expected. We initially moved the date of packing and were told this was ok (to fit in with selling our house). Unfortunately, come day of packing, no one turned up and apparently they had moved the date back three days because of potential quay fees. Quite frankly, I would have paid the quay fees because this meant they now only had two days to pack instead of the quoted three days as we were handing over the keys to the new owners. Not a great start. The guys who turned up weren't from Excess, they were from Hamiltons and they worked hard, within reasonable hours, taking breaks as required. (As an addendum to this, however when we unpacked in NZ we found many boxes half empty and quite a few very badly packed, leading to breakages). After a great deal of stress and worrying, everything was packed up and we thought that our troubles were over. Unfortunately not. We did have more items than had originally been quoted for as my father had unexpectedly died the week before and we inherited a fair amount from him, however it did mostly fit into the 40ft container that we had been quoted for and paid for. Items that did not fit in there were quoted separately and paid for - no arguments there. However Excess charged us a huge premium for filling the space that we had already paid for and when we queried extra charges from Hamiltons they informed us it was for the extra work they had done. When we pointed out that they had only worked two days instead of the quoted three, they replied that the money was because they had worked hard. Errr.... I'd love to be in a job where I got paid a bonus for working hard, for less days!!! They worked two days, not three (as was quoted and paid for), and I couldn't get any decent justification for the extra charges. I really regret now buying the guys lunch and supplying them with constant tea and drinks!! Unfortunately we had no choice but to pay as they refused to ship our goods until we paid their unreasonable charges. The man I dealt with simply refused to debate the point at all. On top of the already stressful time of moving country with three young children and my father dying, this was absolutely the last thing I expected to be having issues with.

I would absolutely avoid this company like the plague. They will mess you around and arbitrarily charge you extra fees. You will have no choice but to pay because by then they have your life's possession in their hands. Disgusting behaviour.

Franciele and Zhanet have been great in handling my shipment. The Swedish customs has been very very difficult and these two people have been in touch with me from the beginning and have responded to my emails at once. So thank you to both of you.

mostly good

Communication from the office was pretty bad prior to the move. I was always chasing for updates, and some balls were dropped. However, the move was very smooth and the people who came for the estimate, packing, and moving were excellent. We await delivery - but I would use them again. Just need a better pre-move management (or perhaps I got someone very busy).

Collection and apologies - Gold Star for Effort

My original review stated the following "I am currently spending DAY 2 waiting for my items to be collected for shipping. First, I was given a 7am-6pm shipping window for yesterday (26/7/2016). I waited at home until 8pm and NOBODY TURNED UP - nobody called to say they were struggling to find the place; nobody called to say the collection needed to be rescheduled. I am now being told that they came today (which they didn't because I've been sitting in the front room watching the door) and nobody was home. I've been listening for the door since 8am and even put a bright green sign on the door which says "Please knock loudly!" just in case. NOTHING!!!! All I am getting from my consultant and her manager are excuses rather than tangible efforts to address the issue. DO NOT USE THEM."

However, there has been an update already today:
I've been on the phone with a couple different people and even up to the general manager. Apparently, outside of London, they contract out to TNT to collect/deliver their orders. TNT is a massive parcel company, so it shouldn't be a problem. The issue is that they don't directly control those deliveries, so they can only deal with id day by day. Finally, I talked to the general manager and he was the first to admit that they were offering a service they couldn't 100% guarantee, but he has promised that he will "personally" oversee the pickup tomorrow and do everything he can from his end to stay on top of it. This review may change again tomorrow IF the promised changes happen.

Update - my items were collected at last on July 28th, 2016: two days later than the scheduled collection day. However, it has been clear that Excess was thoroughly on top of the collection drivers this time. I even received a call immediately after my items were collected to confirm that this was true. Because of the immense stress and emotional turmoil the delay had caused me, Excess has been doing what they can to address the issue and compensate for it. I can honestly say that the stress has now gone and I am eagerly awaiting the delivery of my items to my home in Canada.

Excellent team at Excess International Movers.

Everyone I spoke to were very friendly and customer focused.

They took care of my shipment as if it was their own, and were always available to help with my questions.

Delivery on the day went smoothly. I received a text message 30 minutes before they arrived so I knew they were on their way, which was greatly appreciated.

Will definitely use again
