Very helpful and efficient from the start. We spoke to the MD who led us through the process. We had one of the Architects do a virtual tour and the whole team have been very efficient ! And the plans got approved before we expected!

Price wise its a no brainer from the other companies I looked at, but know exactly what you want. They're not here (or at least I felt like) they don't invest in and explore ideas - but at the same time I knew exactly want I wanted, done my research into buildings regs and permitted development etc.
But there also comes my extra guidance too, of make sure you tell them.
I sent drawings through with just 1 skylight window in the attic (because I was future proofing for potential solar panels) but I didn't say that and the first drawings came back with 3 skylights spanning the full width of the roof.

So yeah, good but know what you want.

I'm in the process of carrying out a loft conversion and extension. Rebecca, Joshua and the rest of the the team at extensionplansuk have been top notch when it comes to producing high quality plans / submitting to the council. They've also helped with finding quotes from builders.

Overall, I was pretty happy with Extension Plans UK for my house extension and loft conversion. They delivered quality drawings quickly and at a competitive price, and the team seemed genuinely invested in my project. But, like any good relationship, there's always room for improvement.

The Good:

Clear quotation and competitive pricing: They stood out from the 10 others I got quotes from.
No pressure sales: A refreshing change from some pushy design companies.
Fast and detailed drawings: I had everything I needed within two weeks - both plans and building reg drawings.
Phillip, the Head Architect (I think) was full of ideas and creativity during the initial consult.
Joshua, my assigned architect, explained things well: He ensured I understood the council regulations and their impact on my choices.
Rebecca, the customer service champion: Always patient and clear, especially when explaining the confusing council stuff.
Reassurance and progress updates: Rebecca kept me informed and feeling confident about the process.

Areas for Improvement:

Confusing email communication: Too many cooks in the email kitchen – Joshua, Rebecca, even Cameron? Overlapping topics added to the mess.
Payment options: Would be handy if they supported more than just bank transfers.
Not all the architects seemed to have the same creativity as Philip... My assigned Joshua, at first, seemed eager to just draw and not explore my ideas.
Example being, when I had the very first consultation with Phillip we went through my rough ideas as at this stage I hadn't chosen to go with Extension Plans UK - they were just a candidate. But once I chose them. Joshua wanted to jump straight in and draw the plans based on that very preliminary conversation with Phillip - I didn't really like that approach. Reason being that, Extension Plans only provide you with 1 revision to the plans before you have to pay extra, and working in a customer-centric organisation myself, it felt like the natural thing would be to reset and confirm my plans in case anything had changed.
Example 2, on the creative side... I wanted a 4M extension, which would fall under 'Permitted Development - Larger Home Extension' guidelines requiring neighbour consultation. My initial idea was for a straight roof with a large glass ceiling lantern. When doing his research, Joshua initially advised there might be some heigh challenges and immediately went and drew up plans for a 3M extension because having a 4M extension with that type of roof would result in the Eaves height exceeding the 3M height threshold. But I would have liked him to have provided some options first that would have helped me keep my ideal design of a 4M extension… When I did some deep thought on it, It was clear that adding a second internal step and/or changing the roof to a pitched one got us around this height obstacle and allowed me to keep the distance to 4M... This is something I'd have liked Joshua to think about and propose.
When I got into this process, I was looking for an architect to provide some creativity to help me formulate my designs, especially as they’re in the unique position where they can draw upon past projects, which they can use for inspiration and push the boundaries.
Appreciate it might sound very minor, but something maybe to consider for future 'introduction calls', to really understand what's critical for a customer.
That said, after I mentioned it to Joshua that I needed his creativity, he did start providing his thoughts on what things I could consider, which was super helpful and appreciated.

One revision limit feels tight: Big projects and big ideas need more wiggle room.
An online portal would be a game-changer: Track progress, store documents, and avoid email overload.

In Conclusion:

Extension Plans UK did a very good job at a fair price. They're reliable, communicative, and customer-focused. If you need some simple plans, they're a solid choice. But if you're looking for design fireworks and constant creative brainstorming, they may not be the right fit.

Great service and a really competitive price! Whole process went super smooth and we had our planning approved within a matter of weeks! Highly recommend
