Fall in love with FIC

I first encountered Filipinos In Care (FIC) in mid-2024 when Kier, one of the founders and chair, personally reached out and asked me to register online. My initial reaction was a bit skeptical—"What is this for? What will I get out of it, I'm busy with my kids?" However, out of respect for him, I put my name down and followed their Facebook page.
Soon, I started seeing the many events FIC was doing. Their 1st Christmas Gala in 2024 was truly amazing and piqued my curiosity. I brought this interest with me to work. As a former Clinical Trainer, I often interacted with Filipino nurses in care homes, and I made it a point to ask them if they had heard of FIC and encourage them to check out the Facebook page.
The Anniversary and the Spirit of Bayanihan
The turning point came in April 2025, when I was invited to attend FIC's 1st Anniversary. Kier asked me to speak—I don't know why, but I accepted and shared my life story. On that day, I was observing and listening intently to the other speakers, and a powerful word got stuck in my head: "BAYANIHAN."
What unfolded at that event perfectly embodied the meaning of BAYANIHAN. I saw a group of people genuinely willing to help and support others. That day, I FELL IN LOVE WITH FIC. I still get goosebumps thinking about it! I met several amazing, inspirational people who motivated me to do more and be more. “Nabuhay ang pagiging makabayan ko” (My sense of patriotism was reawakened). To top it off, I had the incredible opportunity to shake hands with the Philippine Ambassador.
The Extraordinary Team Behind FIC
I have since learned more about the extraordinary individuals leading FIC, and they are truly a team of high-achievers.
• Kier: I’ve respected him since his Nurse Practitioner days, and now he is a Managing Director of a care company.
• Dr. Jay: A NURSING TIMES AWARDEE and Senior Regional Director.
• Ma'am Charito: Everything about her can be summarized in three letters: BEM (British Empire Medal). Enough said!
• Ma'am Margee: An amazing leader and achiever. I was blessed to sit down with her at their last event and learned a lot from her.
• Ma'am Aileen: Though I haven't spoken to her yet, she always has a genuine, accommodating smile.
• Ma'am Jaja: Clearly the beauty queen of the group and an amazing Master of Ceremonies.
• Xyza: I love her because we are both Ilocanos, and again she is also a BEM awardee.
Ang galing galing nilang lahat (They are all truly brilliant).
I wholeheartedly believe in what they stand for.

Mabuhay kayo FIC!

A Truly Inspiring and Heart-Warming Celebration

What an incredible event! It was a night dedicated to honouring the outstanding contributions of care home sector workers — from home managers and nurses to caregivers, ancillary staff, and everyone working tirelessly behind the scenes. It was so moving to see these hardworking individuals getting the recognition they truly deserve. Congratulations to all the winners.

I also loved that the event highlighted heritage, especially the pride of being Filipino. The rich cultural traditions showcased through the vibrant opening dance production made me feel like I was back home. The colours, the energy, and the authenticity of the performance beautifully reflected our multicultural community and the joy it brings.

A huge shout-out to the amazing hosts — they were engaging, warm, and absolutely brilliant. The entire team did an exceptional job, and the leadership of Dr Jay Trondillo and his team was nothing short of inspirational. Bravo!

And of course, the celebration after the awards was unforgettable! The music, the dancing, and the classic songs reminded me of how Filipinos truly know how to celebrate life. The camaraderie and strong sense of community were felt throughout the room.

I’m confident this charity event will continue to inspire and support many, ensuring that the next generation of leaders can access opportunities like CHARM. Again, well done to the whole team — absolutely amazing!

Project CHARM

Project CHARM has been a meaningful experience in my career journey. It is more than just an initiative from Filipinos in Care — it is an opportunity that gave me the courage to grow, the knowledge to lead, and the confidence to believe in myself.
I will always be grateful to Jay Tondrillo, who encouraged me to join at a time when I doubted my readiness. His faith in me opened the door to an opportunity that changed the way I see my role and my potential. Through this project, I discovered a deeper understanding of what it truly means to be a manager, and I gained the tools to perform with confidence and purpose.
Jay is not only a teacher — he is a mentor who inspires and support. His encouragement has helped me step forward with strength.
To Filipinos in Care, I extend my deepest thanks. Project CHARM has empowered me to dream bigger, achieve more, and carry with me the knowledge that I am capable of succeeding. This experience will always remain an important step of my professional growth and personal journey.

Fantastic and Amazing

I’ll keep this short and simple.
Back in 2022, there were almost 30 Filipinos who were going through one of the darkest phases of their lives. Then came Kier from Filipino in Care — bringing light, hope, and compassion when it was needed the most.

That light didn’t just brighten days; it saved lives. It saved the dreams, the spirit, and the faith in humanity of those 30 Filipinos. Even now, years later, the impact of that kindness still lingers in the lives of those who were supported by this incredible group — and they will forever be grateful.

From the bottom of their hearts, those Filipinos say thank you to Kier, Xam, and Jay for being the light that changed everything.

Project CHARM

Completing this course has been an incredibly valuable experience. It not only equipped me with the essential knowledge for progressing in my career, but more importantly gave me the confidence to take the next step toward becoming a registered manager. The delivery of the programme was excellent, and Jay Trondillo’s expertise, practical teaching style, and supportive approach made every session engaging and directly applicable to real practice.

The atmosphere throughout the course was fantastic and created a strong sense of community. It was a great opportunity to meet others in similar roles, share experiences, and build a supportive network.

I highly recommend this programme to anyone considering a course that will truly prepare them for leadership in social care. Thank you to Filipinos in Care for providing such high-quality, inclusive, and empowering development completely free and genuinely impactful.

Excellent initiative by Filipino in…

Excellent initiative by Filipino in Care Project CHARM
Participating in Project CHARM as an aspiring Registered Manager has been a transformational experience for me as both a student and an emerging leader. The programme not only deepened my understanding of regulatory standards and best practice, but also developed the leadership behaviours required to lead care teams with confidence, clarity and compassion.

Through reflective activities, supervision-style coaching and real-world case studies, I have learned how to apply leadership principles to operational challenges. I now feel better prepared to make decisions that balance compliance with person-centred care, to communicate with authority while still being approachable, and to create a culture where safety, dignity and staff wellbeing are at the forefront.

Above all, I would like to sincerely thank our programme lead Jay Trondillio and rest of FIC team for the consistency, professionalism and encouragement offered throughout. Their guidance created a psychologically safe space to question, to challenge ourselves and to grow. Their leadership modelled the very behaviours we are aspiring to take forward into our own roles.

Project CHARM has pushed me to think not just about “managing” services, but about leading with purpose, shaping positive culture, and acting as a role-model for safe, ethical and values-driven practice. I would highly recommend this programme to anyone preparing to step into a Registered Manager role.
