Doing online courses requires discipline, and usually there is little or no human interaction. What makes this experience exceptional is the online presence of a human who gives us opportunity to ask questions real time as well as their customer support where there is also human intervention!

As a Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) I had a dream of teaching financial literacy. My enrollment in an Executive MBA program at Nichols College made that dream a reality when it challenged me to come up with a passion project. Research for the project led me to the National Financial Educators Council (NFEC). At that point I knew that I would use their curriculum when I started teaching financial literacy. What I've learned from the Certified Financial Educator Instruction (CFE) is, connecting with the learning is more important than just presenting what I know about personal finance. I am currently teaching personal financial literacy to 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. I plan to expand the program. As part of my recruitment and retention plan, before I place an instructor with learners, they will either have the CFEI designator or agree to complete the course as part of the hiring process. This is to ensure that we maintain a culture that fits our beliefs and values, that students will be financially capable before they reach adulthood, because they would have completed the work due to the framework that the CFEI provides.

This is an amazing, comprehensive, high-level training program for those interested in advancing the cause of financial literacy. I would recommend NFEC to all who want to create purpose and make an impact that will promote the importance of basic personal finance curriculums for students and adults.

NFEC moves the occupation of a personal finance instructor from being simply a community volunteer to the position of an authentic professional instructor in personal finance. Anyone considering taking their position as a volunteer instructor in personal finance to the next level to that of an authentic professional instructor in personal finance should strongly consider the opportunity the NFEC offers. Enrolling in the NFEC CFEI course helped me to gain much better perspective, both for me and for future students, on the enormous impact I can bring, both for my life and the lives of students, when personal finance is taught in the manner and methodologies prescribed by the NFEC.
