Excellent after sales care

I have to write a glowing review for Mark & Sam at Fine Watch Club. I purchased a 1998 Omega Seamaster Chronograph at a great price directly from the website. I promptly received the watch but noticed that the second hand was not returning to 12 o'clock when the stopwatch function was reset. I immediately contacted FWC and was asked to return for a repair. On receiving the watch, not only had the second hand fallen off due to not correctly being correctly seated after a service but also the power reserve was 24 hours instead of 48 hours. Mark offered me a complete repair and service or a refund. I opted for the service and the watch was promptly returned to me a few days later along with cash to cover my postage. I was kept up to date on the service/repair via email and phone. I now have a fully functioning and completely serviced Seamaster with paperwork to show the service was carried out. Of course, the watch should perhaps have been more thoroughly tested before sale but mistakes can be made and it's how these issues are rectified that counts. Excellent after sales and care so very happy to recommend and buy again from FWC in the future.

Worth £600 or More - you decide

Okay this review is a few months old but on reflection I thought my own experience with the fine watch club may assist someone.
I have a divers watch model 844 which was produced for Heuer in France by Monnin, this being a rare vintage watch I had sent it to Tag Heuer in Manchester for a service, they could not service the watch and asked permission to send it to Switzerland, it cost me £918. On receiving it back it was placed directly into my safe. Wondering as to its value I sent details and photos to the fine watch club, they offered me £600 which I declined. Two months ago a Heuer watch made in France by Monnin was presented to the antique road show, it was valued at £5000 and the expert said he was sure that if put into auction the figure could be much higher. Research the divers watches produced in France model 844 for Heuer by Monnin and decide for yourself if £600 was a decent offer for my watch

Dear John,

Your valuation is totally delusional and quite embarrassing to quote Antiques Roadshow, let me clarify a few points for the benefit of others reading.

Firstly, the Heuer 844 Monnin is indeed an iconic vintage diver, but not every 844 is a £5,000 watch — as anyone with a quick Google search or eBay glance can confirm. In fact, the AHO844 variant you’ve referenced typically sells for around £1,200 retail (not even trade) and lots of examples are regularly available at this price point. We’d encourage readers to check that for themselves rather than rely on speculative valuations from a TV show.

Secondly, your £918 Tag Heuer service bill (to Switzerland, no less) doesn’t automatically increase the market value of the watch by the same amount. If anything, it highlights that your real frustration might be with the person who charged you nearly the full value of the watch just to service it — not with us for valuing it accurately.

Our more than fair offer wasn’t what you hoped for, but we stand by it — and I still can’t believe you have quoted the Antiques Roadshow (!) what a school boy error. Maybe they should take a look at it to confirm its value is well below a £1,000 in the trade.
