My first order went well...
My first order went well, but it was only because it was a small, inexpensive order. But now, after spending over 4 hours of my precious time spread over a number of weeks calling a million different ups departments after no updates from shipping it appears that because the shipment contained items over $800 it got stuck in customs, i had to fill out some form, and then ups came to deliver it and asked for a check. They did not know how much it had to be made out for and who to make it out to. Not only that, but I paid the finnish design shop $300 for "expedited shipping" on NOVEMBER 28th. Today it is January 26th. I understand it is nice not to order everything from amazon, and their curation is good but the amount of dysfunction is not worth anyone's time. It has been an infuriating experience. The company will say they are not responsible for issues with customs but they should indeed be the ones liasoning with UPS and according to UPS - the charge of 300 was arbitrary. And if theyre often shipping to the us they should know already that $800 is the max. This is one of these companies where things are fine until theyre not and then youre left spending your precious time calling UPS, trying to track your package, writing to their nonexistent customer service department when you express disappointment and they are chirpy and smiley and wish you a great weekend yet do nothing to actually help you logistics wise OR compensation wise. All i asked for was compensation for my trouble -- oh -- and my items which i still do not have in my possession. I will never order from here again.
*your response is about customs and sales tax, not $460 in shipping fees. $160 of which I just paid to UPS for my packages to be released, not only the $300 I paid to your company for “expedited shipping” when it was not so. I didn’t ask for overnight delivery, but this is beyond the pale.

Case study of how bad customer service can turn a customer off for good
I was a loyal and happy customer and have ordered from the Finnish Design Shop several times in the past years. Sadly, after this time I won't be ordering again and cannot recommend you do either.
I invested several thousand euro in two Lundia Lofty loft beds (and matching Lundia shelves that fit under the beds) last fall. I invested so much because I wanted to buy products that would last and that were made with European quality materials for my children's rooms (read: real wood and quality veneer). And this is what I thought I bought: quality beds made with birch veneer.
The beds arrived and as we unpacked the 10 or so packs each bed came in, we realized the bottoms and all the sides of the beds were made of MDF/high-density particle board, some with unfinished surfaces. MDF, for those not in the know, is the cheapest possible material for furniture (essentially sawdust compressed with formaldehyde-containing glue) and is known to release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into indoor air. In addition, it's just a cheap material that has no inherent value (unlike wood or even high quality veneer). It's not something you want lots of in your home (especially not in your children's room), and certainly not something you should be spending lots of money on.
Although I was angry and disappointed the beds were not made of the materials I had been led to believe I had ordered, had the MDF at least been of good quality, I may have accepted this (as the beds were otherwise OK). Sadly this was not the case. While Lundia and Finnish Design Shop claim they're made of low-emission MDF, this does not seem to be the case. The MDF parts still smell two months after building them and I have measured the VOC levels in the room and they're consistently high and in the unhealthy range.
Now, when I got in touch with Finnish Design Shop's customer service about the missing product information and poor quality, they immediately started making excuses and claiming there was no problem and that I was simply a disappointed customer. And crucially they refused -- even after 10+ emails back and forth -- to even acknowledge that I had been misled: I did not know I was buying beds made largely of MDF because they did not -- and still do not -- have this information on the product page on their website.
While they did -- after pushing -- offer to take the beds back, due to their massive size and due to the fact that we'd already built them (and obviously did not keep the 20+ boxes the pieces came in), this wasn't actually an option.
As an alternative, they offered a 50 euro discount (for beds worth thousands of euros) or a 100 euro voucher to their shop. I found this laughable. While this would have been fine had I, say, spent a few hundred euros or even a thousand on these products, when we're talking about products that cost thousands and, crucially, that they had misled me about in terms of materials, I find this unacceptable. Upon stating this to several different customer service reps, I've been met with copy-pastes of previous answers and stonewalling. Thus far they've made no attempts to meet me halfway or to negotiate, even after months of back and forth.
To me, this is extremely poor customer service, especially for a high-end retailer trading in high-end design furniture, and goes to show that unless you know exactly what you're buying (and have seen the product in person), you should not order from them.
I wish this was not the case as I was previously a fan, but this poor customer experience has changed my opinion of them completely.

Updated Review - Excellent Customer Support
Initially faced retrieval issues, but the store, especially Emmi, provided great support. Product delivered ahead of schedule. Thanks for the outstanding customer service!

Disappointment 101
Waited 6 weeks for them to deliver a bed frame which arrived in different colour than pictures. Describtion and order says sand but under website it shows different colour, so not only bad customer service (contacted them twice and only response was your order is delayed), too long delivery, but also not accurate pictures on the website.

Customer service - Lack of understanding or fairness
I purchased a pedestal moon, TV stand in arrived in the time for Xmas as described by the Finnish Design Shop however, the item received was damaged the scuffs and scratches to paint work on two of the legs. I Addressed this with the company and was willing to keep the item in its damaged condition provided some fair comprise was met, as it’s travelled so far and is required for Xmas. I have not been met with fairness or understanding, my suggested solution of a refund of £100 (item cost £219.58) was met with an offer of a 20 then 30% refund. With the argument that the item is still functional (not bent). this is a design shop. Design is all about function as well aesthetic. I have received an item which is aesthetically damaged. This shop doesn’t seem to understand this. If there is a problem with your order it’s a gruelling process and the response time is slow and lacks a certain service. I’m not willing to wait for a replacement which is on back order, nor can I be fussed to continue to resolve this with their so called customer service. I’ve had to take it to PayPal.

Terrible shopping and customer…
Terrible shopping and customer experience. We bought an item 3 months ago, they estimated a 2 months delivery time which we accepted because back then it was not urgent. After two months i email them and they said they had “just” received communication from the supplier that the item was late (how convenient) and gave me a new delivery date which was 3 days ago. Now the item has not been delivered and is stuck In germany somewhere. Nobody obviously warned us of this additional delay nor apologised for the delay in the fist place.

Delayed delivery and unhelpful customer service
Unfortunately, I have been having an awful experience chasing a delayed delivery with Finnish Design Shop (almost 2 weeks past the delivery date at this point and still waiting with delivery company unable to give any updates). Customer service are just completely blasé about situation and very unhelpful.

Really poor service, ordered large item for delivery to Ireland, it never arrived. Waited almost 2 months for a refund. Company investigating with DHL. This should not delay customer refund . Issue resolved quickly once I escalated it here

I placed the order one month ago, and I am still waiting for it to be delivered. 3 mails and one phone call to customer service did not solve the issue.

Unacceptable delivery time to UK. Ongoing
It is the delivery to UK via TNT that has proved impossibly difficult. Finnish Design Shop support seemed unable to sort out the delivery of a table, which was thought to be on its way back to Finland. They did not explain why they could not get more information on its whereabouts than I could. But they have the consignment no. which TNT is asking for.
It should be pointed out to potential customers that there is confusion over payments. FDS quoted prices in GDP but asked for payment in Euros. I transferred funds in Euros at the rate calculated by my bank. FDS said that the amount was far below what it should have been and I took their word for this and immediately paid what they regarded as an underpayment. In both cases I paid my bank an extra £25 to guarantee that the payment went through the same day by bank transfer.
It will soon be a month since FDS accepted the order. You will understand my low rating. TNT has a very low reputation and FDS support says that TNT is the only shipping option we have with DDP1 terms to the UK (import charges included in the price). But the consumer is not interested in the reasons for choosing a plainly unsatisfactory partner. Briefly, we want what we pay for and have it delivered reasonably quickly.
Rather by the way, about 60 years ago, I worked for Finmar, the British importer of Aalto designs. Who was the shipper then ?

After reading some of the reviews here…
After reading some of the reviews here I was a bit worried but decided to place an order anyway. Ordered a coffee table that was in stock according to the website and it was shipped the next day. I had some problems with UPS but contacted the customer service who helped me out. Nice and helpful people and fast replies. Will shop from them again.

Uneven Customer Service
I have ordered several items from FDS and have been pleased, but have never until now needed support from the company as everything went smoothly. Trouble is always the test, isn't it? Two of my large items in the same order arrived swiftly last week as forecast. Two of my small items appear to be lost in transit. My DHL link hasn't been updated for 5 days, and when I write Customer Service to inquire I'm told to wait and trust. That's fine for a few days, and we all understand backups in transit, but when the tracking information has been frozen for nearly a week, then one does begin to worry. But no further support from customer service.

Fake stock and bad communication
I'm a professional in the design field. I buy and sell. I do a lot of shipping everywhere. I rarely buy on design platform. With Finnish Design Shop I understood once again that this is not the best. I ordered an item on Jully 20th because it was in stock and they proposed a delivery on Jully 28th. A month later the item is not here. They ship with a cheap service from DHL. So you get a tracking number but you can't get precise information from DHL. After a month the parcel was still in Germany. It seems that it never moved. After sending several mails to Finnish Design Shop I got answers like "just wait". I've been asking a refund but they asked me to wait again. A month after my order the parcel appeared on the DHL platform as "sent back to the seller". They might say that I had asked myself to cancel but actually they never confirmed since they were keeping on saying "just wait". I didn't get the money back yet. I wonder what is a company that says that they have items in stock but they don't. I wonder where the money goes during this time. This is the second time I buy on this sort of platform. So here is my idea : If you love design don't buy on it. Buy from the producer itself. This is the best. You pay the price and not a fake good price. In the end it's super disappointing.

Poor Customer Service
I've placed a couple of orders with Finnish Design Shop, and my experience hasn't been great. UPS lost my first Finnish Shop order, took weeks of chasing until I was eventually refunded. Most recently I tried to order a small item to an order and it would have resulted in adding a month to the delivery date (not to mention the estimated dates they give seem to be completely inaccurate). For a premium shop, I expect much more.
