A friend referred me to First Horizon Bank, mentioning a promotion for customers opening a new account. Based on this, I opened a checking account at one of their branches in Charlotte, NC. The promotion required a minimum deposit of $1,000 within 90 days. As a self-employed individual, I deposited my earnings directly from my company, sometimes daily or weekly, depending on when I received payments. However, I was later informed that my daily deposits would not count toward the promotion's requirements, even though the funds all came from the same company. This didn’t make sense to me since both daily and weekly deposits originated from the same source.
Additionally, I found First Horizon Bank in Charlotte, NC, to be inconvenient. They lack partnerships with other banks, limiting ATM access and other services. For these reasons, I cannot recommend this bank to anyone.

Zelle is not an option with this bank. They have poor customer service. I will close the account. I asked why they don’t have Zelle anymore the lady told Zelle is a third party platform use someone else which they don’t even have and she had no clue what she was talking about.

There should be a way to give negative stars. I opened a savings account and First Horizon illegally froze both of my accounts without valid legal reason. Then First Horizon sent an email stating the following "your funds will be returned to you via cashier's check in approximately 7-10 business days". First Horizon sent a letter stating the following "a recent review of your account activity reveals unsatisfactory banking practices" which is ridiculous. The only activity was adding funds to the account. In the same letter First Horizon wrote "any remaining funds in the account will be forwarded to you". Yeah right.
After I filed a complaint with the BBB First Horizon illegally placed two false complaints on my Chex Systems credit report in retaliation for my filing a BBB complaint. I notified BBB who contacted the bank. After repeatedly rechecking my Chex Systems credit report First Horizon finally removed the two false statements they illegally placed on my credit report. But First Horizon did not return my funds to me. USPS mishandled delivery of a letter from First Horizon which First Horizon used as a nonsense excuse to not return my funds to me.
During the BBB process I furnished my savings account information to First Horizon so that they may quickly and securely ACH my funds back to me but they refused to return my funds.
Did First Horizon break multiple laws when they froze my accounts without just legal cause, illegally placed two false statements on my Chex Systems credit report in retaliation for my filing a BBB complaint against them, and never returning my funds to me essentially committing an act of theft?
It is now over ten months later and First Horizon has yet to return my funds. How is a bank like this allowed to continue doing business when this is how they treat consumers? I have been banking with multiple financial institutions for over thirty years without any serious issues until encountering First Horizon. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!

I've only had my account for 4 months. In that time, a check made out to someone else with a completely different account number was deposited into my account (for almost $3,000) and today they cashed someone else's check out of my account. (Check was not written to me OR from me)BOTH times I was the one to contact the bank and let them know the mistakes they made with other people's money. The problems were resolved quickly. However noone else's money should be deposited into my account and other people's checks shouldn't be cashed from my account. Doesn't seem like a lot to ask from a bank.

The customer service is so rude and trying to cut me off when explaining my problem then accuses me of over talking her
Then would not answer me I had to ask 3 times are you still there and how do we correct this problem. Talked to Angela that put me on hold then Danieal . I had a new card in Oct my other had expired and had called 4 times when paying bills it would not go thru and then flagged as fraud. She claimed it was the old expiration date on the old card causing the problem and I told her I did give the company's the new expire date and my payments would not go thru. But it's the company's fault I'm paying the bills too was her remarks . no it's your system somehow instead my other bank card was renewe'd from another bank with the same bills no problem .she was literally screaming at me I should not have to argue to fix this problem . Im about done with this bank

This bank is the best one to choose if you want to have your money stolen from you during a national crisis, caused by winds from a hurricane causing a atm machine to malfunction during a 1000 dollar atm deposit, that only 200 of those dollars show up the 700 never showed up on the account, file a dispute and then a female name Ron__e who works for the bank will lie about every issue. Please choose this bank if you dont want your bank to follow regulation e policy and violate their own policy, if fraud does happen they will not follow any of their own rules and regulations they will also opt you out of being able to overdraft the account, the worst part is they will not even speak with you, when you call to check on your claim, they have aborted my claim, and if you report it to a complaint agency such as CFPB or BBB they will say since you reported this to a regulatory agency you have to go through them to speak about your issues even if the CFPB forwards you issue to another agency they will refuse to speak to you about your own fraud or errors that took place on your account, even if it has nothing to do with the issue that was reported to the CFPB, then they will hang up on you, and repeat the process each time you call, they will not refund you money they owe you and the CFPB will not get involved even if you report it and they respond whether its a lie or the truth the CFPB will turn their head the other way to the situation, leaving you no choice but to file a small claims or a arbitration, even if they have all your money this bank will deny the claim their person who supposed to correct the situation will lie about the issue in my case it was R0
ie a female employee with First Horizon gave a false report, and refuses to allow me to speak to her superviosor @ris and the other agents will use the CFPB as a crutch to not allow you to address nor correct the situation....now th e full story.....
I want to bring to your attention the ongoing issue I have been
experiencing with First Horizon. On 9/12/24, Hurricane Helena caused a
malfunction at a First Horizon ATM while I was making a deposit.
Despite depositing over $900, only $230 was recorded in my account.
This discrepancy was denied 17 days later, despite regulations stating
that provisional credit should have been issued after 11 days. This
has caused significant financial hardship for me, especially
considering the fraudulent activity on my account that followed the
ATM error, because of the winds the storm Helena caused the atm to
malfunction and they denied the claim and also denied the whole issue
while my city is going through a major disaster from hurricane
Helene...
In response to these issues, First Horizon claimed that I
verbally opted out of overdraft protection, which is untrue. The
account manager, Mi@el, confirmed that he opted me out of overdraft
when he closed my account due to the fraud. I lost $700 due to the ATM
malfunction during the deposit, and only $250 out of $950 was
deposited. Despite being promised a provisional credit within 11
calendar days, First Horizon denied the ATM dispute on the 18th day
without providing any reason for the denial, despite my repeated
requests.
This situation has not only caused financial losses but has also
affected my auto insurance and driver's license causing my license to
be suspended and my insurance to be cancelled, Even After RoN___
falsely responded to the CFPB that the progressive transaction was
complete, a complete lie she told the CFPB, leading to personal
hardship. First Horizon's actions have violated regulations and
policies, resulting in significant financial losses and potential
foreclosure of my mortgage, as well as over $100,000 in debt from
fraud and damages. I have photos of the ATM malfunction and am
prepared to present them during any necessary legal proceedings. Then I have fraudulent transactions on my account that they refuse to correct, and each time I call they direct me to speak to the CFPB and the CFPB wont correct the issue they say once a bank has responded they have nothing else to do with the situation, regardless if the bank response is untruthful, these banks will put their members in a hardship situation, and they are the ones who are supposed to prevent the fraud but they seem to be creating the fraud, then they will not call nor will they try to correct the situation, they make it worst by not issuing the temporary credits instead they will close your account and attempt to abort the situation violating policy by never going through the correct steps they offer in their disclosure when you sign up for this bank account instead they treat situations like this as if their disclosure doesn't exist, leaving the customer in a hardship situation from the acts of a greedy bank where the CEO's are probably reading this on his private jet...

"I am absolutely fed up with the service I’ve received from First Horizon. This bank is, without a doubt, the worst of the worst. There seems to be zero effort or willingness to help all members, and it’s beyond frustrating.
I’m dealing with a significant issue right now, and every time I reach out, I’m met with sheer ignorance from your representatives. Today, 09/26/2024 at 11:30 am EST, I had the misfortune of speaking with Angela from [Department Name]. She did absolutely nothing to assist me, instead going back and forth with no resolution in sight. After waiting 20 minutes, I called again and spoke with Mel, who clearly didn’t care at all about helping and just transferred me to Katrina in the fraud department.
Katrina’s attitude was terrible. She spoke over me, didn’t lift a finger to actually assist, and even had the nerve to talk down to me, trying to make me feel inferior. As a minority, I’m beyond frustrated with this company and its employees who act like they’re better than everyone else. This is not just unprofessional; it’s downright insulting.
I’m done dealing with this. I want this matter escalated immediately to those who work closely with the CEO. Someone needs to be held accountable for this disgraceful service."

"I am deeply disappointed with the level of customer service I have consistently experienced at First Horizon Bank. It is truly disheartening that every time I call, I am met with a lack of respect and basic courtesy. The white women I’ve spoken with over the phone are often demanding, dismissive, and show no desire to assist with my concerns. This lack of professionalism is unacceptable, especially from a bank that is supposed to prioritize customer service.
What's even more upsetting is the stark contrast in how I’m treated when I enter the branch. While the Black women at the forefront are welcoming and greet customers with respect, it feels like something has changed in the overall culture of the bank. There's a sense of indifference from other staff members who seem to look at customers rather than engage with them.
As a customer, I expect to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of who I am or who I’m speaking with. First Horizon Bank needs to seriously address these issues and ensure that all their employees are providing the level of service that every customer deserves."
"I've been a customer at First Horizon Bank for some time now, and I have to say, my experiences lately have been extremely disappointing. Earlier today, I spoke with a lady named Tina, who is an older white woman, and the entire conversation was frustrating and unproductive. Instead of providing help, she kept going back and forth with me, which only added to my frustration. Unfortunately, this isn’t an isolated incident. I’ve also had similar issues with another representative named Jamie. Both encounters were marked by a lack of respect and an unwillingness to assist.
What’s particularly sad is that this level of service seems to be a pattern with certain employees at the bank. When I visit the branch in person, the Black women at the forefront are always professional, greeting customers warmly and providing excellent service. However, the same cannot be said for others, who seem indifferent at best.
It’s disappointing that customer service has deteriorated to this level, where you feel disrespected and undervalued. First Horizon Bank needs to address these issues and ensure that all employees, regardless of who they are, treat customers with the respect and assistance they deserve."

My car was stolen in Las Vegas and they treated me like the criminal. I don’t understand how account to account transfers can’t be done over the phone. It’s 2024 and if I’m out of state and my credit and debit cards are stolen I’m pretty much out of luck and can’t access my money. Customer service is horrible and nobody knows how to do their job. Every time I call I get the run around. The bank will not help you even though you have to verify your entire life history to ask a question. It’s unacceptable that only one person can help do a transfer and then won’t help you do the transfer when you’re telling them it’s an urgent situation and you’re across the world. Definitely switching to a more capable bank.

Here’s what you can expect from the First Horizon $450 bonus!
If you call the Plantation branch and ask for the cross streets along Pine Island, they don’t know and tell you the numerical street address for the second time. Absolutely useless info!
When you call the 1 800 number, they tell you that your account does NOT have the $450 bonus. Then you have to send a message to the CONTACT US requesting a letter which confirms that I DID in fact qualify for the bonus.
However, when the letter came, it did not include the qualifying conditions for the bonus. I had to ask them to send it to me. When they sent me the conditions, they were different to the original conditions that I received at the branch. The new condition was that the deposits needed to exceed $1000. There was no minimum dollar amount in my original conditions.
Unfortunately, I did not keep the original conditions to get the bonus so I had to go to the branch to get a copy of the original conditions.
If you open a FH account for the $450 bonus after three months, prepare to spend 20 hours between the 1 800 number and the branch. You will be so sorry!
If you call the Plantation branch and ask for the earliest date to close the account AND get the bonus, they tell you to call the 1 800 number. When you call the 1 800 number, they tell you they can’t answer that question, you need to GO TO the Plantation branch.
20 hours on the phone and emails, plus 2 trips to the bank for $450? No deal!

I have had a banking account for almost 30 years at different establishments across the US. This has to be the worst that I've dealt with. When FH took over Iberia Bank, customers lost valuable features and were thrown backward in time. IB made cash deposits available immediately, checks of certain amounts could be immediate, others over a large sum were offered in part-meaning you had at least some access to funds at any time. All deposits made prior to 7 pm were available same day with the above caveats. The only reason I have a FH account at all is convenience & occasional access to Zelle . I do not have a regular deposit to it, neither do I choose to use this bank for any other features.
I do not understand how this company functions with such archaic policies. The whole point of modern banking is convenience and access to money that belongs to us...not the bank. My household had 7 different accounts with Iberia Bank. After the First Horizon take over, we have 2... and are seriously considering shutting down those as well. There are hometown banks that have better, more convenient policies than this.

Business account clients BEWARE!!!! If you own a business checking account at First Horizon and your business account is scammed, you notice a fraudulent charge, you will lose your money if you do not report the charge within 24 hours. This means that you have to monitor your account at least once every 24 hours. The bank does not inform you of this rule, they blamed this rule on the FDIC policies. I asked the bank representative to please show me this policy at the bank level and they told me they do not have it in the policy. According to the bank, this is an FDIC policy. If I would have known that policy I would have monitored it more closely.

If you have the opportunity to choose this bank for a mortgage loan. Don’t do it.
NACOL WALIGUARA told us that this bank accepted visa b-1 b-2. We were very excited and started the process for a loan after looking with several banks. Everything seem to be great at the beginning until we get to the underwriting and find out that apparently the (program) that accepted visas was no longer active.
What what?! At that point we had already spend $600 for appraisal $350 for inspection and $2150 for the title. Money that we lost.
All she said was (I’m sorry I didn’t know the program was not active) that’s why you get inform before telling customers otherwise.
This lady has no knowledge on what she’s doing, she just gives you hope without even getting herself inform.
Please don’t use this bank. They are terrible

horrible customer service! i went into the bank to make a deposit and had to wait while 2 tellers gossiped with another custome. then once i told her what i needed she continued to gossip and act like i did not exist. then she tells me we are putting a hold on your check since this is a new account. I said well never mind i need a cashiers check today and she slapped the check into my hand and walked off without saying a word. Back to Bank of America i go.
