Terrible product. I cannot find anyone, including myself!
Very scammy!! I was looking for some records, signed up for the 7 day trial, and realized after about 30 minutes that there was no relevant info for my country. I went to account details to cancel, as I did not want to forget. Clicked on 'cancel membership'....oddly enough, a green "banner" popped up for about 10 seconds, stating I had cancelled...then the "banner" disappeared". I checked my email to check whether I had received a confirmation of my cancellation (common practice)...but nothing. I then hit "manage" on membership type again, and lo and behold the "auto renewal" was still on - if I hadn't double checked, I would have had no course of action as the initial pop-up banner confirming my cancellation had disappeared after seconds when I clicked on it the first time. This is likely what happened to all the people here who cancelled but then it still auto-renewed. This second time I kept my phone ready and turned the auto-renewal off again, and quickly took a picture of my screen, with the same pop-up banner appearing again. Seriously....what kind of insanely scammy practice is this?!?! If they still charge me, I will give them some serious trouble.... STAY AWAY from this website, this is as scammy as it gets.
Their customer service is basically
NONEXISTENT. There is a message page on their website that states they’ll get back within 1-2 business days. I messaged. I emailed. I called. NOTHING!
I emailed 3 times before I got any response….a generic message. Over a couple few weeks I tried several times to No avail. Finally, I got an email saying send info to content @ fold3. com. I tried this email Several times over a couple/few weeks…. And received ZERO responses.
I checked my inbox regularly including my junk mail…. NOTHING.
Fold3, does have a number of records….But NOT all of them. Records are purdy good, but customer service is Absolutely HORRIBLE!!!!!!!! NONEXISTENT
Please cancel my membership! I have emailed and heard nothing back. I do NOT want to be charged after the 7 day free trial is over.
UPDATE: 3 days later and still no response. I have emailed and left voicemails. I'm starting to really think this website is a scam.
UPDATE: had to put a stop pay with my bank for this company.
Waste of money and time. They have little to nothing and the search engine is about as good as Google. You'll be lucky to find a record.

I've been researching and writing for Fold3 for over two years. The opportunity to remember and memorialize these men, especially the fifty whom I have worked on, has been a thoroughly rewarding experience. Focusing on each man's family history and later military period requires careful review of local and national records. Also, this work relies on my training as a university professor and an Army officer, and celebrating their lives has been my honor.

I have more information in my dads shoe box than Fold3. Very very little information even with all of the correct information in the filter fields, ie SS number, dog tags dates etc. Waste of your time and money. I got Fold3 via Ancestry.

I joined and paid the monthly membership more than 2 weeks ago.
But they listed me as BASIC.
Initially i got an email with a guy called Phil but he has stopped replying and he is ignoring me.
Now I need to stop my membership asap.
I need my money back for this month.
But no one is replying to me.
No contact what so ever.

What is the point of this site? When you are a fully paid member of Ancestry only to have the Military records avalable to be snached away by Fold3 and then have the nerve to ask for another subscription to access them. If Fold3 is part of Ancestry then my subscription there should give me the access.
Fold3, thankyou for your reply, but it really does not help, you may well be partnered to Ancestry, but if Ancestry are going to put all military info on your site, and then we have to pay for that info, then there is no point in being a member of Ancestry, when most of the info is on other sites.
ANCESTRY, beware, you will lose a lot of customers!!!!!!!

Their records are grossly incomplete. I honestly believe their information comes from those using the site. My father and mother were both retired from the military and no records came up. I searched at least 20 other deceased veterans and not one came up In a response below they say the information they have is from the National Archives "THEY DICTATE THE INFORMATION ON OUR SITE." Well National Archives is free to use. So. .

Eight days ago, I e-mailed Fold3.com asking for help.
I stated: "Fold3.com has a video that shows how to use the "Browse" function for research. However, this video seems to show an older, previous version of Fold3.com. I want to be able to use the "Browse" function, just as I used to do on Fold3 (and as the video shows). Can you tell me how to load and use the previous version of Fold3?"
No one answered me. I also left a phone message. No one has responded. I called Ancestry.com to ask if someone could connect me with a person at Fold3.com , but the Ancestry.com help desk couldn't help me.

After numerous pages of consents and of course giving a credit card to be charged, I only received a birth date, and a death date on one of my grandfathers. I already had that info, I was led to believe that property records, military service, marriage, and other info would be provided. I find your site is a waste of time and money.

I tried to set up a 7 day free trial with Fold3 after being diverted there from Ancestry. I have had a lot of problems using the site and essentially have not been able to access anything - I've just been going round in circles. My great concern now is that I have not been able to unsubscribe from the site. I have emailed Fold3 to ask them to cancel the "free trial" forthwith, but apparently it will take them a couple of days to get back to me. I'm now very concerned that I will be charged for something that I have not been able to use and have not been able to unsubscribe from. I've not been able to access any help from Ancestry today either and have just been going round in circles with them too. A very bad and worrying experience!

I cancelled my membership with FOLD3 and they still keep debiting my account under ANC*FOLD3. I have emailed and called and they can't find an account or a card on file. I've tried to see if it was linked with any other accounts like ancestry but nobody can find anything. I am still getting charged every month. The only way to stop it is if I change my debit card number but i am scared it will go on my credit from somewhere.

So further to my post below....I have now had a helpful response from Forces War Records who say they are reloading the data.
I have been a premium member on Forces War Records for several years, happily researching away. They have several sets of records that cannot be found on other sites, hence why I joined them. Sadly, now they have been merged into Fold3, I have had a really horrible experience. I noticed one of their record types (WW1 military hospital records) was now missing one of the lines of data, the source data telling you which military facility / hospital the record related to; a key bit of data. When I highlighted this to their help desk, giving them examples of ones I had seen on the old FWR site, which now didnt have the hospital named since the merge, I was basically told I was talking rubbish and was treated like an idiot....however I pursued my enquiry, providing examples from the original data set at the National Archives which also named the hospital when theirs didnt, but again was dismissed and told they would not look into it any further. I am now getting 'radio silence' from their help desk. I was always polite in my reply to the help desk, but received short, blunt rude replies. I am really not impressed now, and wont be renewing my subscription or recommending other WW1 researchers on the many forums I am on, to use them either.
Fold 3 does not respond emails.
Website is not user friendly at all!

Totally shady company allegedly not owned by Ancestry (as Ancestry customer service tells you) but has Ancestry emblazened all over it.
Total con of a company that has no customer service to speak of. Probably a single Yank sitting in his parents basement in his underwear!!! I have paid twice for a year subscription and have nothing. Tried to email them twice using their site but totally ignored. Ignored on Twitter too.
Do not buy anything from these guys as they are a fraud.

I used Fold3 free last year on Memorial Day. I found several documents for Confederates which I had not really researched before. When Ancestry offered a special for 6 months of Ancestry, Fold3, and Newspapers, I took it. I have found 1 item each for the Union soldiers I was researching, and those I already had, thanks to Illinois Archives which is free. I agree that more information is available elsewhere if you want to do searches. It seems that F3 takes information, pictures, stories, etc. that others post and add those to their site rather than actually doing new digitizing and downloading of their own. Get out of the office, go to Archives, and get us stuff that hasn't been digitized yet. Then you will be worth the money.
