Having read Baldwin's iconic novel decades ago in a dog eared paperback edition, I was delighted to see that Folio deemed it worthy of creating a fitting tribute by adding the title to its collection. I am pleased by the feel of the book in hand as well as the rich black and white illustrations by Lela Harris. The introduction by Hilton Als provides background and insight that bring the novel and the author into focus.

I never expected to find Baldwin published by FS, and am delighted with the production which honours him well. The illustrations on the box and in the text are perfect. Size of volume, font, couldn’t be better. If there is anything missing it would be a B&W photograph of the author, but that is uncommon for FS books.
