Product details

‘Everyone who reads Norwegian Wood runs out to buy copies for friends and lovers.’
  1. Guardian
When the Beatles song of the book’s title plays over an airplane intercom, Toru Watanabe is reminded of Naoko, his first love. Brought together by a traumatic shared experience, the couple find solace in an intense, complicated relationship in which they cocoon themselves from the rest of the world. A beautiful exploration of love, sexuality and grief, the nostalgic narrative is a departure from the author’s typical magical realism and yet it remains distinctly Murakami. The first illustrated edition of Norwegian Wood features the mesmerising artwork of Daniel Liévano, who was awarded the Society of Illustrators Silver Award for his work on our edition of Kafka on the Shore, and whose vision marries perfectly with the dreamlike prose.

This is one of my favorite novels for very personal reasons so I'm biased but unfortunately this may be the only hardcover edition in English. Every aspect of this book as a physical object is a work of art.

Probably (and certainly, in my opinion!) Murakami's best work. A bittersweet story of melancholy. Beautifully presented as always with Folio, and I am looking forward to reading it again.

Fantastic. The book itself is absolutely beautiful, while I physically was unable to stop reading the story as it was gripping. A lovely volume!

Like The Folio rendition of Kafka on the Shore, this book is beautifully bound. The striking color and design of the cover is just beautiful. A lovely book.

Some beautiful art, and a higher end production for a popular novel.

Many beautiful illustrations inside. The cover and the slipcase work well together, even though I feel the cover looks a bit too bright and cheery for a book like this.

I love Haruki Murakami’s writing and the product generally, but I am not keen on this style of illustration. Please publish more from this author, eg “1Q84” and “The Wild Bird Chronicle”, but please could we have a different illustrator next time? Thank you.
