Product details
For more than half a century readers have journeyed alongside Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit, and his nephew Frodo inThe Lord of the Rings.
Bilbo Baggins is a reasonably typical hobbit: fond of sleeping, eating, drinking, parties and presents. However, it is his destiny to travel to the dwarflands in the east, to help slay the dragon Smaug. His quest takes him through enchanted forests, spiders’ lairs, and under the Misty Mountains, where he comes across the vile Gollum, and tricks him out of his ’Precious’ - a ring that makes its bearer invisible, and wields a terrible power of its own.
This edition is bound in parchment cloth blocked in gold, with an inset label showing Smaug the dragon. It contains 19 black-and-white illustrations by the great Eric Fraser, and endpapers printed in red and black ink, showing Thrór’s Map and Wilderland.
‘One of the best children’s stories of the century’

Gorgeous copy. Can’t wait to give it as a gift
I have loved Tolkien for years and have a number of copies of his work - I don't have a limitless budget but found the Folio Society books of a quality that mean they are prized in my collection. I have just bought the Silmarillion and now saving my money to eventually be able to get the LOTR's boxset. I also have my eye on a few other titles in time. Thank you
These books are absolutely stunning. You know exactly what you're paying for and, simply, if you're considering getting anything from the Folio Society then you've already made up your mind. Would recommend to anyone who wants to improve their book shelf.
Beautiful edition.
Book is wonderful, I haven't read it and looked for typos that are in other editions of this book, but I believe that I will enjoy this book for many years to come! I marked value at 4 stars because, although the paper binding is nice, I prefer cloth bindings on my nice editions. This would have been 5 stars under "value" if it was a cloth edition.
Beautifully presented and packaged.
Product is nice... but it was a gift and the surprise was ruined because the company mailed a thank you for your recent purchase card ahead of the package and the recipient saw it.
A stunning book
Beautifully illustrated version of the Hobbit, perfect for a gift
In terms of content, i mean, it's The Hobbit. Just a wonderful story that I've cherished since my mother read it aloud to me when i was a child (an alarmingly long time ago). I am pleased to have such a beautiful copy of it in my library. I particularly like the understated illustrations. Too often Tolkien's books are accompanied by somewhat overwrought art. The monochrome woodcuts here are very tasteful.
High quality with amazing illustrations!
Came with a protective cover and was packaged really well with all recyclable materials, which I really appreciate. The book itself it’s beautiful and it’s everything you want out of a hardback
