The book arrived flawlessly; wrapped in a generous amount of rustic, honeycomb Kraft paper. The book itself is lovely. A gorgeous edition in a stunning slipcase. The book’s art and page layout are effectively, delicately, well-structured and designed. It was a perfect gift for my wife from our daughter and her husband, to whom this book means so much. Flawless delivery and packaging for a gorgeous, perfect gift.

I love this story. I love this book. What I do not love is this introduction by Patrick Rothfuss. Twice have I bought this book and twice have I been blindsided by this atrocious introduction. I read it, get annoyed, forget his name, buy another copy, and the cycle repeats. This came close to being the perfect copy of The Last Unicorn, but the introduction is a serious mark against it, in my opinion. It was great actually having a preface by the author himself, that was nice to read (though I could have done without hearing about how Peter lost his virginity on a first date. Neat. Really didn't need to know that.). Since I have nothing but praise for the book, I'm going to focus on the introduction and why I rated it 4 stars out of 5. I'm aware the introduction by Patrick Rothfuss is deliberately trying to avoid talking about the book, but seven pages of a glorified diary entry came off as goofy meandering. He claims its because introductions do too much hand holding. Truly, his introduction is not like the others, because this one fails to tell you much about how and why the introduction writer is recommending the book beyond basic "its good and whimsical". The entirety of this introduction could, and should, have been trimmed down to the first page and a half. I did not pick up a hundred dollar copy of The Last Unicorn to read about how Rothfuss discovered kissing in college, how his introduction is superior to all others and how if you want to read his opinion on a few characters in the book you have to read his blog. The Last Unicorn is supposedly super important to Patrick Rothfuss, yet the way he describes his exposure to Peter Beagles work and the book itself is very flippant or shallow. But oh, Patrick Rothfuss makes sure to remind us that colonizing is bad, can't resist dropping a line about Marxism and describes The Last Unicorn as "that unicorn book" and "how strange" it was. He says he loves The Last Unicorn but refuses to elaborate or say anything meaningful about it. He's also apparently one of those men who's too intelligent for well-known writing exercises and goes out of his way to talk about how everyone else is bad at writing introductions; because the point of introductions is to introduce the story. Yet in the truest display of ironic he failed to do so himself. The whole thing reads like a reddit post or something heavily influenced by a Marvel script. I wish the company in charge of putting this edition together would have taken the time to get a seasoned fantasy author with something to say about Peter Beagle and his work. Maybe even an author who actually has a finished series to his name. Introductions usually get me excited for a story. This one just made the poetic prose of the story feel like tonal whiplash. I would legitimately cut it out of the book if it wouldn't damage it. Probably going to just glue The Last Unicorn fanart over it instead. "An introduction rarely stops at the point." Or fails to start to make a point at all.

This book is incredible. The craftsmanship is top notch, I love the illustrations and the introduction. This book meant so much to my wife as a child and it was the perfect birthday present. I am so thankful this was released, I had been struggling to find a hardcover of this novel and this felt serendipitous. I will absolutely be purchasing again from Folio in the future.

The hand feel is fantastic. You can tell the book is meant to be read (it hold up extremely well) and strike that perfect middle ground where they aren’t so expensive you feel like you can’t even touch them, but deliver consistently exceptional quality for the price and are a joy to read.

The cover is beautiful and so is the box the book is in. The illustrations done by Lily Seika brilliantly evokes both the melancholic poetry of Beagle's text and the nostalgic look of the classic 1980s animated film adaptation. The book is sturdy and easy to read. The rose gold edges add a nice touch. Highly recommend!

I waited so long for this to become available, and the wait was worth it. The illustrations and book sleeve are perfect, capturing the vibes of the story without leaning too heavily on the animated movie. The book itself is sturdy and easy to read. The only thing a little strange is that the rose gold on the page edges is only on the top, but I don't even care because I don't really buy fancy books, but I had to, HAD TO have this one.

This is my first time ordering from the folio studio and I'm really glad that I did. I saw an ad for The Last Unicorn Book on instagram and was immediately hooked on the art and design of the book. The book arrived after a week shipping from the U.K. to the U.S. The book was nicely packaged and snug. As for the book itself the quality of the and texture is amazing. The art is really beautiful and the text really nice to read. The book isn't super heavy which has a nice weight to it. All I can say is I highly recommend getting this book or any book from Folio Society.
