Considered Philip K. Dick’s greatest novel when first published in 1962, this mind-bending work redefined the sci-fi genre. In it Dick conjured a new vision of our world – a twisted simulacrum of modern history in which the Axis Powers have won the Second World War. America is now divided: the eastern United States is a puppet of the German Reich – a regime of madness and brutality – while the western Pacific seaboard is governed by a militaristic, yet spiritual, Japanese dictatorship. Amongst the complexities of this new existence, a group of seemingly unremarkable people play out their everyday lives. As their narratives intersect, Dick poses larger metaphysical questions concerning the authentication of history, perception and the building blocks of destiny.

I decided to go with the book series from Folio Society for its exceptional quality, particularly its illustrations and cover details, since Amazon sells a “plain Jane” book cover and reviewers say the quality does not match expectations. I was initially considering Amazon before Folio Society, as I had been a fan of their Man in the High Castle production before season 4, which was not faithful to the story.

The book has gone on to my reading shelf to be enjoyed after I've finished the existing editions of Folio's James Bond novels. If the long awaited missing two are printed before I finish the final book in those already printed then The man in the High Castle will have to wait a little longer. As to the book itself, It's just what we've all come to expect from Folio. An excellent product half a head above my second favourite hardback publisher (Helion & Co). The book arrived safely within its protective cocoon of packaging. Five Stars all round
