Beautiful production, collectible as well as readable. Handsome presentation.
A very delightful surprise of a science fiction novel.
Love the books I received, but I do think The Player of Games is significantly overpriced. But, as it is my favourite sci-fi book ever (and I've been reading sci-fi for the last 65 years), I decided to treat myself for Christmas.
Super edition
A great series of books presented in a beautiful edition. I look forward to more.
Easily the most impressive version of this book ever printed. Sure to please any fan of Iain M. Bank's Culture novels.
Love the book, a great display piece.
Waiting for Christmas to fully open this book. It is almost my partner's favourite Culture novel. If the Folio society released Use of weapons then we would just have to get it because that is the true favourite.
I know Folio books are expensive, I buy them because I do appreciate the experience of owning and reading a book of quality, but, on this occasion I do feel that The Player of Games is overpriced in comparison to all other Folio books I have purchased over the last three years. I don't think I am alone in this view.
Normally I don't write product reviews. I have about twelve Folio Society books now and have always been extremely satisfied with the overall quality of these books. However, given the experience I had after purchasing The Player of Games by Iain M Banks, I thought it was important to raise awareness regarding a manufacturing defect of this product, which I hope The Folio Society have now addressed. Within a few hours of reading this book I noticed, in horror, that the letters on the spine and the art work on the front cover was starting to rub off! Given the price of this book, and as someone who is very meticulous in preserving the quality of my collection for many years to come, I always make sure that my hands are clean and dry before handling Folio Society books, and never eat while reading. So, I'm sure you can imagine my shock when I saw these defects. Anyway, as mentioned, I hope The Folio Society have addressed this issue now and, on a positive note, Customer Service acknowledged the defect when I wrote to them and were very quick to send me a replacement.
Amazing, love the style and illustrations.. hope they keep the same formula for the rest of the series.... please please say you are going to do the full culture series pretty please with cherry on top
May there be more of the Banks universe printed!
Great images and beautiful cover design of this modern classic.
Beautiful but a little dear even for this quality.
Lovely quality book with great art inside. Looks lovely on a shelf with my other Ian M Banks book from Folio.
Another beautiful Iain M. Banks volume; absoultely gorgeous. But it's a "large print" presentation that barely justifies the 350+ page count, and it's a challenge to see where the £80 is going when Consider Phlebas is the same price and a monster of a book... Still, I'm happy to pay it and consider it a down payment on The Use of Weapons. You'll keep printing them, if I keep buying them, right? Let's see if we can keep going till Feersum Endjinn...
I love this exciting looking book and I am looking forward to reading it.
I can't wait for the remainder of the Culture series.
