Fay Dalton continues her celebrated work on Folio’s collectable Bond series, bringing fans of the agent more of her glamorous, sexy and dangerous interpretation of Fleming’s iconic creation. In this latest set of illustrations, Dalton glories in the darker side of the adventure, depicting Blofeld’s grisly execution of an underling, and the brutish Emilio Largo, doused in hellish light and ready to extract the information he needs from his prone victim, by whatever means necessary. Balancing these sinister visions are glittering images of the casino, the cool spectacle of a plane sinking beneath the waves, and the sunlit tropical fantasy of Bond carrying a bikini-clad girl from the ocean.
The pictorial slipcase – such a feature of this lavish series – shows Bond exploring a seabed fraught with hazards, in one of the book’s most memorable scenes. A stylish cloth binding, inspired by Bond’s impeccable suits, rounds off this exquisite edition.

Beautiful, but I would much prefer if each of Fleming book’s cover and titles have their own identity just as they did when originally released. Folio seems intent on always making their series books uniform like an encyclopedia set. Even with the way they did it, I would prefer art on book covers not slipcase. I would also prefer author, artist descriptions and artwork contents pages at back of book and not front. The paper quality itself isn’t as luxurious to touch as I would hope at $62 a book. The artwork is gorgeous. Love. It would be awesome if there were one or two more artworks in each book. Love these books and grateful Folio is doing them as well as they are.

I love books, there is nothing like reading a good quality hard back book, it’s a wonderful experience. I do not know how people enjoy reading digital visual or audio stories, Reading is about holding a hard back book and turning crisp paper pages while being totally submerged in a gripping story. The point of my rambling is that I have purchased the Ian Fleming James Bond books from the Folio Society and they are a sensory experience, beautifully made, they come in a cover and have amazing diagrams, they are probably some of the best books I have ever purchased. They arrived untouched, sealed in cellophane in a box full of padding, within 24 hours, so I strongly recommend that if you love books you buy from the Folio Society because you will not be disappointed.
