Freedompop UK - Beware

Freedompop UK appears to no longer be part of freedompop.
You can reset passwords as the link sent on email doesn't work. You get no sms text codes either.
They have no taken away the free service wanting money for the smallest plan. Why not offer a free plan with say only 50 texts and a few free mins a month rather than force someone to have to pay a monthly fee. Freedompop was meant to be free as an option and looking at reviews i would not trust them with your credit card.
Fix the UK website, fix the reset passwords for UK numbers and make it clear who FreedomPOP uk is now. Very suspect all round.

Hi jamieK, we're sorry to hear you're having trouble, but it looks like you are reviewing an experience that did not occur with our company, but rather an alternate UK based entity. We recommend that you get in touch with the intended company through their support channels.

DO NOT TRUST FREEDOMPOP!

DO NOT TRUST FREEDOMPOP!
They are getting away with stealing their customer's money.
As soon as you give them your card information they will not feel shy to take a random amounts for no reasons.

Example: Downgraded my account to the 0 plan. Then, I was charged $25. On top of that, I was charged a random $20 for clicking nothing on the page.

My husband has also this problem of being charged over $100, twice.

Cancel my account, now disputing these charges.

June 2020 – STILL CANNOT MAKE OR RECEIVE CALLS

Sometime during late March / early April, FreedomPop issued an update that affected some of its SIM cards. This update ALTERED THE SIM’S CAPABILITY. It turned the SIM cards into DATA ONLY SIM cards. As a result, the CALL BARRING setting in the device, which is normally set to “OFF”, was switched “ON” by the FreedomPop SIM card. Consequently NO CALLS CAN BE MADE OR RECEIVED by the device through the FreedomPop Network. For users who weren’t making calls through the FreedomPop Network, this will have no affect on them. Google Voice and other VOIP apps will continue to work off WIFI and Mobile Data as usual. But for others who were using the FreedomPop app to facilitate voice calls, they will now find that their incoming / outgoing calls are being blocked. Incoming calls go straight to voicemail (a paid service you have to subscribe to in order to get your messages), and outgoing calls appear to be logged in the app, but in actuality, they never connect.

I suggest that for anyone who is unable to make or receive a call - check your phone's Call settings to see if your CALL BARRING setting is “ON”. This setting should always be "OFF" for both INCOMING and OUTGOING calls. The only way to turn this setting “OFF” is to enter a network password which ONLY THE NETWORK CARRIER CAN PROVIDE (in this case that's FreedomPop) and thus far, FP are saying they cannot provide this. One other way is if FreedomPop were to issue an update to the SIM card(s) directly instructing them to turn CALL BARRING “OFF”. Thus far however, it seems they either DON’T WANT to issue this update or THEY DON’T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. One is an example of open resistance while the other is of complete and total ineptitude. I’m not sure which is the kinder conclusion.

Unfortunately as a result, the device’s Call Barring is locked in the “ON” position which means that unless you have a SIM card FROM A DIFFERENT CARRIER that can turn this setting “OFF”, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE OR RECEIVE A CALL on your device. It is the SIM CARD THAT CONTROLS THE CALL BARRING SETTING and this can only be changed by a network password or an instructional update to the SIM card directly.

FreedomPop does have a community forum of sorts but dialogue isn’t encouraged. In fact, threads are immediately closed to comments and every person who has posted a question is re-routed through a private messaging system. IF there are any solutions, they aren't posted publicly for anyone's benefit. The whole purpose of a community forum is to HELP THE COMMUNITY! But, I think FreedomPop are afraid of what would happen if users actually began to corroborate.

By the way, You can reach FreedomPop Support via the messaging system on Twitter. They do respond, but thus far, not with very much useful.

Hi Kim, this sounds like an issue we recently had with Android devices using our SIM cards which was resolved last week. If you're on Android, please sync your account data to fix the issue. If you're on iOS, we'll need to gather some more details. Please reply to our private message so we can follow-up. I've included the steps to sync your account data on Android below:

Step 1) Reboot the phone (turn it off and then on again)
Step 2) Go to the FreedomPop Messaging app
Step 3) Go to the Messaging Application's Settings by clicking on the 3 lines in the top left corner of the application.
Step 4) You will then see all of the application's settings. Scroll down until you see Sync Account Data.
Step 5) Tap Sync Account Data to have the application refresh.

Terrible support

First of all, this company's support is really terrible.
When you create a support ticket, they close it without any comments.

I have three times experiences this.

I understand cheap price company has only limited resources, but "close support ticket WITHOUT ANY COMMENT" is only this company as far as I know.

Conclusion, do not use this company.

The data speeds are much faster than other MVNO carriers and coverage is just as good. Compared to my past carriers FreedomPop gets the job done better value for money. Customer service will always be willing to help if you have issues and just be cognizant of your usage to avoid overages and you will be perfectly satisfied. Make it easier to port numbers out to other carriers (such as Google Voice), it seems as though only the big 4 carriers support moving a number from FreedomPop

I had freedom pop going back maybe a year or two ago and switched because of their bogus charges. It was partly my fault for not noticing the total ripoff earlier. I complained and complained and nowhere, They refused to refund one penny.

There was no mistake this was a planned action. I challenge Freedompop to show where i said anything wrong. If so sue me. Beware of ever thinking of doing business with them

Truly dreadful company verging on FRAUD

Truly dreadful company

Impossible to get hold of, support links don’t work, tickets ignored and emails are bounced back. Try to request a PAC and you get.......nothing.

They take payment via your card rather than direct debit so it is much harder to cancel your account and get a refund when they take a payment they aren’t entitled to.

Whatever you do, NEVER EVER sign up with these scammers. Please do yourself a favour and NEVER use them.

They are bordering on outright FRAUD.

I have not been able to use my phone…

I have not been able to use my phone for 6 months, and I still getting charged. I am on a semi-annual plan $5.99 a month. You pay for 6 months up front ($36.20.) I looked at my credit card statement, I saw charges for $36.20 on 2/28/20, $20 on 4/13/2020, $20 on 4/21/2020 and $20 on 5/7/2020. In less than 3 months, I got charged $76.20 for a non-working plan. They used to send me email when they charge my credit card, but not any more. So, you have no clue when they are taking money out of your credit card. I couldn't get in touch with anyone.

Hi Crystal, if you have incurred any erroneous charges, we will certainly issue a refund accordingly. It sounds like you may have incurred Auto Top-Ups due to exceeding your plan's data threshold. The best way to prevent Auto Top-Ups is to manage your data usage to ensure you stay within your plan's allotment. Additionally, you would be notified that you are reaching your plan's allotment prior to being charged. Please reply to our private message so we can investigate.

Freedom pop left me with no service…

Freedom pop left me with no service after they did an update to their app. I emailed they support service, as there's no phone number to phone them, and cancelled the contract with 2 days to spare. Not only did they not cancel the contract but they took the next month's payment as well. Despite me proving my email was sent and having received a automated response they have refused to refund me for the additional month they took.
There is no customer service whatsoever. Even the emails I did receive from them didn't address me by my name and were very blunt, "why do you need a refund".
The signal indoors is very poor so most of their phone calls go through your Wi-Fi using their app which aren't that clear and break up quite a bit.

Be Aware of Their 6-Month Refund Policy

I understand the top-up system; however, I don't understand the continuously topping-up on top of top-up even though there's still a huge amount of balance in the account. I tried to call customer service numbers of time to get a refund once I had my accounts closed. But I could never reach anyone on the phone. My money is my money, it doesn't matter how long you "borrowed" from me. If you owed me, you still need to pay it back. It is ridiculous to set a term that you don't need to pay back if it passed for 6 months. I can ask you to lend me a million bucks and I will go hide for 6 months than I can keep all the money. It seems a scam to me that FreedomPop tried to avoid being contacted by the customers. I'm very disappointed and will put my review online to warn any potential customers.

Hi Gao, that doesn't sound right, you should only incur a Top-Up when you have Auto Top-Ups enabled and your Top-Up credit falls below $2. If you believe you've encountered a billing error, we have various methods to reach us which can be found at support.freedompop.com. Please reply to our private message so we can look into this.

I'm not getting any phone calls

I'm not getting any phone calls, they go straight to my voicemail. And, I'm unable to listen to my voicemail. I emailed freedompop multiple times, they're not replying, and they have no phone support, so I can't even call them. Plus they owe me a prorated refund. Once I started asking for a refund, they stopped replying.

A terrible company

A terrible company. Their customer service is just a voice recording that ultimately sends you back to their website. The messaging app has refused to open for three days and every ticket I put in was ignored. I've tried to like them over years as I liked the concept but finally gave up and switched to Verizon today. FreedomPop appears cheap but it's not worth it.

I've lost years of texts and overpaid for a clunky and ineffective service. I thuoughly regret it.

I realized that with what I was paying on top ups, having a contract plan for unlimited was not that much more expensive.

Nightmare of a scam company. Avoid at all cost

Beware of charges

If you run low on data/mins etc, they automatically do a top up charge so your service doesnt get turned off. To turn off automatic top up, you have to pay $7 a month. I think in the past you still had to pay a one time fee to stop top ups. What type of BS is this? I get the idea to prevent a stop in service but this is not the way to do it. For people who are struggling to pay bills and needs a cheap plan, this is the worst thing. I've been a long time customer of Freedompop and this is why I never recommend it to others. Its free but you have to be very careful.

Hi Mizanur, we're sorry to hear you feel this way about our service. To avoid incurring an Auto Top-Up (overage fee), you can monitor your usage to ensure you do not reach your data threshold and prevent any overage charges altogether. This method would not require you to add our Overage Protection as well.
