I'm halfway through a DIY garden project requiring around 30m of raised bed retaining walls using 4.5mm gabions from Gabion1. Boxes are really sturdy. I followed the instructions on the company's website for ground prep, drainage, assembly, and cross bracing and I have had no bowing or distortion on filling. The end result on the finished half of the project is a very clean architectural look that I'm really pleased with.

Not sure if Gabion1 would be the lowest cost for large projects requiring only standard sized gabion units but for the DIY-er with a custom design and no previous gabion experience their flexibility and support is really helpful. They provided advice from design stage, including suggested gabion sizes and installation tips, then provided the gabions prepared to my dimensions at no extra cost. All are joined with cut-to-length helicals, which I found pretty easy to use (and which some other suppliers charge extra for).

As others have pointed out, all communication is by email rather than phone but I found them quick to respond both before ordering and during installation when I had a couple of additional questions. Recommended.

Short delivery times

We were thrilled to find this company were situated only 8 miles from our project and we would happily have spent c£10K on gabions - but it’s been the most frustrating experience. Communication is only welcome via email. Sometimes a swift response, sometimes not, but overall very laborious. As first-time gabion purchasers we wanted just a 10 minute chat, had our hands held a bit and to receive some reassurance that we were ordering the right items but they wouldn’t phone us. Throughout the frustrating email exchange process we made several pleas for them to ring us to help us but they didn’t/wouldn’t. It’s such a shame.

We’ve given up and now found a company we can talk to. 2 stars awarded as the website is very informative and you can feel David’s passion for his product - just a pity the customer service did not fulfil our need for swift and human contact.

Easy Assemble modular system. Good points: can non-standard sizes. My only question is how strong the welds are which are not as strong as others I've used.

Gabion 1 feedback. The website was easy to read. Good variety of gabion sizes, installation instructions straight forward. Communication was efficient. Costs were explained.
Tip: to close loaded gabion lid without distortion to spiral, using strong string and hem stitch sew lid in place tightly then attach spiral with ease.

I ordered baskets for a garden project, found the website useful and decided to order. Was a bit surprised I had to wait on an email to give me a delivery charge and then the payment method is bank transfer, no credit card option. Goods arrived and seem good quality, easy enough to assmble so all happy with the product. I did email 3 times asking if they could advise how much stone I should need, all emails ignored and no answer provided so wasn’t impressed with that lack of service

We were doing a relatively small garden project, so the delivery charges relatively high, but the actual delivery was quick, on time and with helpful drivers.
