Flaming Silver Pieris is the kind of shrub that instantly lifts a planting. It is widely regarded as deer-resistant, but as with any deer-resistant shrub, browsing pressure can vary by region and season.

My plants came very well packaged and were overall in good health. This is where my good review ends. I ordered two of these pieris and was disappointed for several reasons: 1. The leaves were sun-scorched and browned in several places. 2. There were multiple slugs on the outer packaging (in photos), although I found none after opening the plastic. 3. Plants were much smaller than expected for a gallon size container. The root system was far too small for the container price I purchased. More importantly, they weren't one plant but 2-3 much smaller ones put together to look like 1 larger one. The root systems were completely separate and untangled, not just stems that clumped separately but still intertwined, which indicates to me that they were slapped together in soil just prior to shipment. This was especially disappointing due to the slow-growing nature of pieris, it will take years for them to become the thrillers I needed them to be in my garden. I will likely not not purchase from this site again, despite there being several plants I have my eyes on. This is the first time I have felt like I was ripped off by any of the multiple garden sites I have purchased plants from.

I received them 12 days after they were ordered and charged--- later than expected. All of the plants were smashed into the shipping box; all their containers were half-rounds. Approximately the equivalent of half a plant (of eight) was broken off and had to be discarded. However, none of them looked dried out. I planted them immediately with great care. So if they take root and start growing soon I will be happy (and perhaps can/will adjust my score upwards). Likewise, if any die I might lower my score.
