I recently completed a refinance process with Gatehouse Bank, and while the overall experience took longer than expected due to communication issues between the bank and my solicitor, I want to highlight the exceptional support provided by Rana, my advisor.

Got our first home with a HPP from Gatehouse Bank. Our financial advisor was Shaz Essa who was fantastic throughout the process. Her expertise and knowledge was invaluable especially as first time buyers who felt uncertain about the process as we took an unconventional route with the HPP. Alhamdulillah it all worked out. The underwriter process and the Bank's solicitors were slow with communication. Had the communication been better, I would have given 5 stars. If you get Shaz Essa as your financial advisor, consider yourself blessed and trust you're in good hands. She's brilliant and an asset to the bank! Had it not been for Shaz's professionalism throughout, the bank would have received 3 stars due to a lack of communication.

I recently completed the process of Islamic home finance with Gatehouse Bank, and I couldn’t be more satisfied. We selected Gatehouse Bank for buying a house using an Islamic mortgage (HPP), our adviser was Ary Jaff, and we have just completed the process with him.

Overall process was very smooth with the support provided by our advisor and the bank, and other communication from Ary was very prompt and helpful.

To be honest I have not had a good experience with them submitted my application was supposed to get a email to confirm the slot for a telephone appointment never got that email and randomly called on a day where I was busy but someone how I manage to speak with the advisor during the phone call advisor asked me to produce few documents which I agreed and also I asked her for an email to confirm what I needed to provide waited for a couple of days didn’t heard anything so called back the bank to find out what’s going on and try to explain that I am expecting en email they said ok no problem we will ask the advisor to an send an email again which I said ok no problem I waited for another two days didn’t heard anything so I called back and I was a bit upset as well trying to find out why I am not getting any response from the bank the person told me that application has rejected and I tried to explain that few days ago advisor asked me to provide few documents and now your trying tell me that the application has been rejected to me personally it sounded a bit unprofessional and not caring

Paul has been amazing from initial enquiry to the submission of application. But I am quite disappointed with the timelines. I submitted my home finance application 3 weeks ago and i still haven’t heard any decision from them. The underwriters send the unnecessary questions on Friday morning and even though I reply them back instantly, I don’t hear anything back from them over the weekdays. There is no system to see the progress on the application or no exact timelines defined in which one can hope to hear something back. Really disappointed.

Shaz has provided excellent customer service, guiding us smoothly from the initial inquiry through to submitting our mortgage application. She explained the product clearly and made the process stress-free so far. While we haven’t progressed beyond the submission stage, her support has been exceptional. Highly recommend her services!

Rana Faza served as our finance advisor for a BTL purchase. She was responsive and professional throughout the process, providing excellent guidance. While our purchase fell through due to the seller, rather than Gatehouse, we were grateful for Rana's assistance and look forward to working with her and Gatehouse on our next purchase.

Conveyancing process has zero transparency from the gatehouse side and is unnecessarily slow. I understand the need for the bank to carry out its enquiries and due diligence, but there are multiple times where an enquiry has been raised 2.5 months in and I’m left wondering why the same enquiry couldn’t have been raised at the beginning of the process as a bulk. Additionally, they will ask for documents in piecemeal which causes delays because they need physical copies of the originals couriered across to them. They then sit on the documents for ages without reviewing them. We have been sat now for 2 weeks with no work being done on our case with all indications pointing to the fact that we are ready to exchange but we can’t do anything until Gatehouse gives the go ahead.

I see no reason why the conveyancing process for a standard property with no problems can’t get completed within 8-10 weeks from the point of draft paperwork being shared. The only reason why it takes longer is because of the incompetence and lack of urgency from the Gatehouse solicitors.

Improve this aspect of your HPP process and you have a great product that’s cheaper than all alternatives in the shariah home financing space. As things stand, the process is extremely vexing.
