Four-year-old 22kw generator. Regular services, 240 hours run time. Last month service call, would, not run. New control panel installed. Today is threw a rod and trashed the motor. Over 4k to fix. I will get another brand. Run from Generac.

RUN DON’T WALK FROM GENERAC!

My husband and I have a Generac solar home power system with batteries.
I recommend, if you are thinking of purchasing a solar system, RUN from this business.
They have a third party installer and repair. The first third party company not only neglected to set the system up correctly, which cost us over 2,000, they went bankrupt.
(We were paying a full electric bill for months before we got help from another solar company’s salesman to know why we were Not seeing ANY SAVINGS)
Generac hired another third party company to service our system. At the end of May a lightning storm came through. We made a call at the beginning of June for our system to be serviced. Without a phone call or set up appointment, the service men showed up at our front door. I’m just happy I was home to have them look at our system. The men told me they were Not there for a service call, but to update our system. I asked them, since you are here can you please tell me why it’s not working and why I’m paying a full electric bill on top of my monthly bill for the solar. They agreed to look. I was very grateful They told me they had to replace the inverter. They would have to wait for the part to come in a schedule an appointment.
It is now August 1 and they still have not fixed our system.
We called Generac directly to see if they could help us. After several calls to both companies, from late June to present day (Aug. 1,2023) NOTHING has been fixed.
So we have a bill for a solar system that does not work l, a full electric bill for 2 months so far, and we we have had 2 power outages sitting in the dark. The odd thing is that the 2 power outages were Not due to a storm.
My husband called the third party, SuNova, again this morning. They said they have the part, they have the work order, BUT they can not schedule an appointment Bc they have NO IDEA when someone can come out to replace the inverter. With costs rising and no idea when they will repair our system…
RUN AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE!!!

(Not to mention the wait time to speak to anyone with Generac has been more than an hour!)

A little peeved

A little peeved! I just installed a brand new 24k at my home last week. We scheduled the "exercises" for Wednesday mornings. At the scheduled time today, my generator started up and ran for about 3 minutes, then shut down. I received an "Over speed, code 1200" error message on my app. I contacted Generac and finally spoke to a lady who helped me reset the generator to automatic status, but other than that, she had no idea what might have happened. She just kept asking did I want to "hire" a service technician. I finally agreed and she provided 3 companies in my area to choose from. Fortunately the first one I called was very accommodating. I explained to him the issue. He said he had a long waiting list, but he would try to help me over the phone first. Following his instructions, we diagnosed the problem as a loose connection on a wire that runs from near the battery up to the touch pad. I pushed it on better, and then the generator then ran as advertised. The tech said he did not know why those connections don't have tabs to prevent them from coming loose, but that it's a frequent occurrence. My frustration with Generac, other than the inadequate connector in the first place, was that I was unable to speak with a customer service rep who might have told me that without having to contact a local service tech. As stated, fortunately the tech did not have to respond out, and this apparently would not have been a warranty claim. If I would have had to pay a tech $3.75 cents a mile, plus a $145.00 service call (about $480.00 to my house) just to push on a loose connection, I would not have been a happy Generac customer!!!!! After spending several thousand dollars for this thing, I would have expected better from Generac customer service.

The Worst Customer Service

Ordered a pressure washer from Generac online, applied for their credit card for a $390.00 purchase and got approved. Unit arrived in an oil soaked box with no manual, spray tips, and other accessories. Spent days on hold with customer service, finally got through and they sent some items (not all) to me. Then I get the first bill and there is a $50 setup fee that must have been in microscopic print. So the good price I thought I was getting turned out to be more than other vendors.

Unexpected annual fees to use app

I just learned that the app which Generac advertises as providing the ability to monitor and control your generator from your phone costs $50 per year to use! Imagine purchasing a smart thermostat (or any other internet connected product) only to learn later that you must pay $50/year. Generac sucks.

Generac: Bad Faith Actors

I have worked with Generac support several times since purchasing my 16kw standby generator, and each time I've felt like Charlie Brown racing toward that football. Each instance began with their support team's promise to resolve my problem, only to find them deflecting & deceiving. In my opinion, Generac support deliberately acts in bad faith. Instead of honestly working to resolve my problem (CODE 1505 - RPM SENSE LOSS), they've disputed my installation... "unit is too close to garage window, but if I work with them to resolve this issue, they'll have my back" (my gas company said the distance from the window is acceptable and not a CO risk as Generac suggests). Generac even went so far as to insist my error code was occurring because my 100 gallon fuel tank did not meet their 250 gallon minimum, lacking the pressure required for the propane to reach the engine. But hey, "if you replace your tank with the larger size, that will resolve the problem!" which is utter BS. After further research on my end, I pinpointed the problem to be with my battery (installed by a Generac certified technician!) which lacked the cold cranking amps required to start the generator. After replacing with a more powerful Absorbent Glass Mat battery with 720 CCA, my generator now starts reliably. And all, no thanks to Generac support. I have advised friends considering their own standby generator to research Generac reviews themselves, as I cannot and will not recommend them because of their abysmal customer support.

Junk

Junk, junk, junk. And "customer disservice" knows less about generators than my dogs. Just bought a $4000 generator, it's junk, won't run, flashing error codes, head bolts half installed, literally it looks like this was assembled at the easter seals center. The "approved warranty center", a business associate, says generac won't/can't help them figure it out, the machine was not assembled correctly, no technical help what so ever, yada, yada, yada. Companies like this need to go bankrupt.

You can't register products unless you call them.

Called customer support because there is no way I can use their app without registering my products with them, and cannot register the products unless I call them. What insane nonsense is this? Sure, you provide links on your website to register, but they just point to your app.

Anyways, customer support says I have 35 minutes wait time. It has said this even after having been on hold for 35 minutes already. This company's customer support is terrible. At the very least, add a callback option so I'm not sitting here for 2 hours waiting to register my product so I can use your app. Terrible!

Super Disappointed in Generac Support.

Recently (5/5/2023) had Quality Electric come out to install my Generac 6852 Home Link Upgradeable Transfer Switch Kit, 30 Amp that I purchased off of Amazon last June. The money to install it was quite a chunk but it seemed to be worth it to make sure it was done correctly. Mark, the Electrician, got it setup but the light on the face plate of the transfer was not lighting up to indicate either Utility or generator power and the manufactures installed toggle was not allowing the deactivation of one power source and the activation of the new one. Mark got generac support on the line. The generac basically said that the toggle and the light are not supposed to work for my model? Huh. Why are they there? Generac said that the route to go with my model every time I wanted to activate a new a power source I should unscrew the four corner screws on the face plate and reach in there and flip a black manual on the inside. That seemed like a valid 'emergency' use workaround, but that's it. The regular toggle after many years of use might go bad and that is a good secondary option to have. No more. Generac also suggest to Mark that if taking the plate each time was not suitable that Mark could just drill a hole in the face place so a tool could be used to activate the other toggle without unscrewing the face plate each time. I lean towards thinking that that action would void any and every warranty, etc associated to my Transfer Switch. If Generac wanted a hole drilled in the face place of their transfer switch face place I feel like they would have done during the manufacturing process. This is disgraceful.

I purchased two GENERAC portable…

I purchased two GENERAC portable generators last year. Big mistake.
Thankfully, I have not had an emergency; if I had, I don't think at least one of the two would perform properly.
After four months of monthly starting and running it, one of the generators failed because whoever assembled or built the unit failed to properly tie a knot in the recoil starter rope; so, when I pulled it, the handle separated from the rope, which went back into the unit.
Since taking apart the unit myself could have voided the warranty (which, at the time, I did not know was of little use), I took the unit to two GENERAC service centers from the list of centers given on the GENERAC web site. Both told me they would not be able to look at it for five or six weeks. That seems unreasonable, particularly since the GENERAC warranty states that repairs will be made within 30 days.
After several phone calls, back and forth, I found a service center, took the unit to them, and it was fixed and returned to me the following day. Good.
But then, reality set in: GENERAC, after about a dozen emails from me and from the service center (which I paid $160.00 for the repair), has consistently told me that the matter has been "referred to the Case Review Team". I finally caught on that there probably is no "Case Review Team," it's just another way for GENERAC to put me off. Delaying tactics work with many people, I guess.
Yesterday, a representative of GENERAC ("Maddie") called and told me the money is being refunded. Good.
But then, reality set it: She told me that the money will not be sent to me, but will be sent to the service center which performed the work. (No plausible explanation was given.)
She further informed me that the money would be sent in "one or two weeks." Again, that makes no sense.
I'm not holding my breath.
DO NOT BUY GENERAC PRODUCTS. The company does not honor its warranty.

Generac power cell

Generac power cell , solar is a scam. Pink formerly powerhome solar is a Generac system that Generac refuses to warranty. They refused to help. They refer you to novasource who handles the warranty issues however than novasource needs Generac approval to fix the system. They refused because Generac refused to authorize work on their product. In the meantime we are paying $80000.00 on a system that doesn’t work properly and gives us no financial benefit it’s the electric company

A pile of junk.

Purchased a Generac Solar Power System for my house trying to reduce my carbon footprint. However this company is the worst I have ever dealt with in my 65 years. I would give them less than 1 star if I could. Twice I scheduled a snap replacement with the Techs at NovaSource Power Services per Generac customer services. Now after NovaSource cancelled twice once without any notice. I realized Generac does not back up there products and does care about the customer.

No compensation after 5+ months of system not working

Buying a Generac solar system is one of my biggest regrets. The system has been down since late August of 2022. NovaSource techs were sent out but had to get a replacement part that blew up in December of 2022. Since then I was going back and forth between NovaSource and generac. it wasn't until March that someone finally got a date to have techs come out. I kept getting worthless apologies for how long it took but apologies don't help alleviate the situation. Paid in cash to get the system installed and since then its been an issue with PowerSolar or Pink Energy now, NovaSource and Generac. When I spoke to a manager named "Danny," about possible compensation, she said they don't do that as per warranty. When I asked under any circumstance, all she could do was read her one talking point like a broken record. When I asked to speak someone who could help me, "Danny" refused. Not sure why she is a manager when she can't manage customer issues. Generac and the whole solar process has been horrible. I would not recommend a Generac solar system as they are poor quality.

Thousands of dollars for nothing

Thousands of dollars, system is just a few months out of warranty and it’s dead. Followed all the recommended service protocols by an authorized technician/dealer but it still won’t work and now will cost us over $2000 this year alone to see if they can fix it. In the meantime we haven’t had power for 7 days and can’t go to work because the sump pump won’t work and we’ll have a flood.

I called and spoke to a representative who put me on hold for a simple question for 28min. Then came back to the line and was unable to answer my question, transferring me to someone who still could not answer the question of, what is the capacity of oil for a generac generator 4000 exl and I gave the model number, told me that this model was supplied with a briggs stratton motor and that generac did not have that information. You people are producing a product with generac name and you cant supply me with the operation information. wow! needless to say but here goes anyway, I WILL NEVER BUY generac again!!!!!!
