When the 22kw Generac was 6 weeks old I…

When the 22kw Generac was 6 weeks old I checked the oil and the bottom was caked in oil . It was torn apart by a tech and left in shambles inside the housing until he returned 9 days later. I took pics and requested a new unit. Generac rep called me some kid that's about 30yrs old and tells me I was denied a new unit. It was not long after the 1st svc call it was leaking oil again
Another 3 weeks or so of dealing with this reoccurring 5000.00 dollar lemon. Not a 18months later , which is now and low and behold I open the top to check oil and puddles of oil sit in the bottom of the cabinet that house the generator.
Do not buy Generac , buyer beware . They do not do the right thing as a thank you for your patronage , but instead treat ya like you're nuttin and nuttin can't battle big corporate. Thanks for nuttin Generac.
Why even bother calling now they sold me a lemon . Maybe their Ego's can be brought to our level through a good lawyer.

I will never purchase another Generac…

I will never purchase another Generac system in my life. We bought a 'whole home' generator. They had to install boxes so when the power goes out, it will let the system decide what to power and not depending on the load, the problem is these boxes are trash, this is the third one that has failed on us. When they fail the power goes out to where that box leads. So if you are keeping score, before we bought this expensive generator, we had a power outage once in awhile, over the past year we have had 3 outages, until someone could come and replace these trashy boxes. So this wonderful system has CAUSED more power outages than it has helped us recover from... not worth a fraction of what we paid for it.

I purchased a Generac whole house…

I purchased a Generac whole house generator in September of 2020. I did so because my daughter was being discharged from a regional medical center and coming home on life support.

The day before she was to come home I had gone home to let the electricians in the house so the generator could be installed.

The instant the power was connected, the installer turned on the connection and the Generac exploded !!

They put out the fire and another Generac was installed the next morning.

It worked well… for 6 months and ONE DAY.

Then it shut down and would no longer work at all. I called the vendor and he said that was too bad but he was not liable because the warranty was only for six months.

The other day, the ice storm took out the power for several hours. Daughter had portable oxygen and battery life on the suction machine . Had the power stayed out longer she could have died .

We live in hurricane alley. So if the lights go out for a longer period of time she could die.

I cannot afford another Generac…

Generator does not provide customer tech support.

I bought a portable Generac generator for power outages at my home. I had a question, so I called their customer service, and they said flat out that they do not provide customer tech support. And their customer service people don't really know what electricity is: they are worse than useless. Fortunately, with some help from my electrician, I was able to get it working and supplying the things in my house that I want to have power in a power outage. Don't buy a Generac of any kind if you want tech support, and know that if you buy them you will either need to have sufficient skill with electronics, or you will have to pay extra for an electrician.

This 100% combat disabled veteran that…

This 100% combat disabled veteran despises Generac generators. I've had two Generac Generators in the past 5 years and they both let me down. Medications that require refrigeration were destroyed and I ended up in the ER. I lost $$$ thousands in food and medicine. The first one self destructed inside and quit running after only 3 months. It took 4 months to repair. I purchased the second one two+ years ago and it's also a worthless piece of crap. The control circuit board became inoperative and was replaced under warranty with a warped used one. The block is cracked and it leaks oil now. Generac supposedly repaired it and returned it after I paid $850.00. It still leaks and I'm without a generator again during the worst winter in 20 years. It will cost $2,000 to repair again and I'm on a fixed income. I had to rent a generator to get by until mine comes back from the shop. Do Not buy a Generac. They will let you down. They're made in China with a cast iron block and aluminum head engine that warps, cracks and leaks oil. 70% of Generac owners reviewed are unsatisfied with this inferior and unreliable product...Please Spread the word to stop a disabled veteran, relative or friend from getting burned by Generac. I certainly am!

This company is a ripoff

This company is a ripoff. I'm a disabled veteran (100% disability) and senior citizen. The system does not work and I'm left paying two bill my electric bill and paying for the panels that never worked. My experience with customer service is 100% no service, but lies. If you do power home solar, I think you will find out you've just been screwed, you'll end up paying for service the doesn't work while having to continue pay your electric company. On a fixed income. Shame on you.

I wish I could rate lower

I wish I could rate lower. The installation was a nightmare. I had to dig up my driveway, the entire neighborhood was evacuate when they broke a gas line. Four months late the battery doesn’t work. Even though I signed up for the monitoring protection, they did nothing. Can’t reach the local office or 800 number. Have been on the phone for more than an hour tonight alone. They are terrible.

Exercise Issue

I have owned Generac Guardian generators in the past and could change user settings that pertain to the generator, specifically the exercise feature from the control panel but seems now you have to pay for that feature thru the app. Does not make sense to pay for a basic user feature that should not need their app or web service to use

I have sent a few requests thru their support portal and they have not had the courtesy to respond. This is not the way to keep customers by charging unnecessary fees and not responding to repeated calls.

In the past I would have rated Generac highly now not sure if I would use them to power a dog house

If I could give zero stars I would

If I could give zero stars I would. Generac is only concerned with selling generators. If you buy one after all these reviews, you will be sorry. There is no customer support or warrantee service. I am still waiting for them to repair my less than two year old generator from a bad motor. All they do is lie and tell me that the motor is on it's way to the service tech. It has been four weeks and the motor to this day has still not been shipped. Do yourself a favor and buy something else. Anything is better that a Generac

Unprofessional Company and products

I am disappoint of the generac portable generator and the support I received from them. They are not helpful and did not admit that they provide me a faulty new item via their reseller. They refuse to exchange it, and I am left with a not working product. Very disappointing. NO support is being offered.

Generac has been promising a seven year…

Generac has been promising a seven year warranty for several months. Don’t believe it. I was pleased with installation, but dealer could not provide proof of seven, rather than five, year warranty. I contacted Generac and they were completely unhelpful, even rude. Would not do business with them again.

I strongly urge anyone who is looking…

I strongly urge anyone who is looking to purchase a generator to not purchase the Generac brand. I moved into a new house a year ago and purchased a whole house generator so that I and my children and grandchildren would not be without power during electricity outages. I bought a whole home generator 9 months ago. We’ve needed it 3 times since it was purchased and each time it has failed. On August 9, 2021, the dealer, Louisiana Generators, came out for routine maintenance. They found that the starter failed. They put in a new starter and said it was operating fine. And then came Hurricane Ida. The generator worked for a total of 5 hours and stopped. I had an electrician come out and check the code that said that the problem was in the line to the house. He checked and found that the problem was not in the line and said something was wrong in the generator itself but wouldn’t even open it because it could void the warranty. I have left the dealer about 8 messages and have not even received a return phone call. I understand that they had storm damage as well but was assured by their answering service that they were receiving my messages. So after spending $14,000 on a generator, we had to travel to Mississippi to purchase a portable generator. We had 10 people in my home including my daughter who has MS and my 6 month old grandson. One of the worst problems for people with MS is being in the heat. The portable generator helped but did not keep the house cool. After living in the heat for several days we left and are now in Florida paying for a condo. I had to throw away hundreds of dollars of food that we couldn’t save. I am absolutely livid that after all the money I spent, the generator is not reliable. Again, do not buy a Generac generator. The electrician said a Koeler generator is much more reliable. After doing some research I have found that there are several class action lawsuits against Generac for similar issues.

Generac junk

I purchased a 22k generac generator 12/19 on 1/20 the first time it ran for 10 min before shutting down during a winter storm I'm disabled I need the power to stay alive the fire dept took me to the hospital came home generac put a low oil pressure switch in
the next big strom on 3/20 the power went out the generator came flawlessly ran for 15 mins and shut down the oil temp sensors shut it down again a trip the hospital while I wait for repair took about 2 weeks but I'm back home and I have had several more power losses some lasting days the generac ran and kept me safe my son came in and said its cool in here I said yes it is he was surprised so quality control sucks cheap china parts suck but once your get the dame thing going it works and I finally found a service provider that actually shows up in a timely fashion but heed this their warranty for 10 years has a 2000 hr limit so say we have a major event for a month that would use up over 700 hours in one event say it happens three times in 2 years you warranty is done your over your 2000 hr limit no where is it in the offer to extend the warranty only after you pay and they send the fine print its hidden in the legal mumbo jumbo good luck

Go with Generac/have it installed by a Pro.

I purchased a Generac Full Standby Generator- and we love it. We had it professionally installed by a Generac dealer. We also had a custom circuit panel also installed. Wasn't cheap- but worth every penny. Once a year I have it checked by a Generac service person. Have had nothing but good experiences. Lights go out and DING~ it's show time -lights on-internet-tv...all light up. Definitely a good investment.
