I left notes in my order that were clearly not read based on the portrait I received. I initially received someone else’s portrait but fortunately that was quickly resolved. Despite this being a custom portrait order, I really felt that the communication and customer service was missing that human component. I am satisfied with my portrait but don’t feel that the quality of the product and the portrait experience would be worth the full price of a portrait.

No complaints so far! Sent in my order, few business days later received my proof, had one edit to make on my stepdaughters hair, few days later received second proof which was 100% the way I asked! The boys had on toy story themed tshirts, they just made them the solid grey color of the shirt which I actually liked. Made everyone color match without character clothing! Waiting for my email on shipping update, and I’m happy so far.

They are bunch of amateur artists. When I received the proof you could tell they didn’t spend a lot of time on it because it was missing a lot do details and the faces all looked “flat.” They didn’t even try to use different shading to give more depth to the portraits. Don’t waste your money!

I had a horrible experience with Smirky from start to finish, including:

- delays in receiving initial proof (only sent after I sent two emails asking for it)
- initial proof required MANY edits
- delays in receiving second proof (had to send two emails and fill out the website form to get a response); only when I attempted to seek a refund did I get a response
- second proof was okay but definitely not what I expected in terms of artistic quality
- downloadable file that I paid extra for was not useable (per my printer) due to file format; lots of back and forth about this and when I was finally sent the proof in the correct format, it was the initial proof (without edits)
- zero communication for nearly two weeks after I approved the revised proof; sent multiple emails and filled out website form twice before getting a response
- when the print had not shipped by Christmas (five weeks after I ordered it), I again stated I wanted a refund, I was offered a 35% refund
- I said I did not want to accept the 35% refund and asked to speak to a manager (via email and web form), no response
- I sent another email and web form emailing asking for a full refund and said I would file a complaint with the BBB if I did not get one. This finally got me the refund

Terrible. I received the proof and it was not the quality I expected and was so off, we looked like a different family. Disappointing given the website examples. I immediately emailed to cancel the order, which was refused. I attempted to be fair and work with them, submitting a very detailed email of revisions as they requested. New proof in a few days was promised. A month went by without hearing anything, I emailed to follow up. A new proof was sent another week later - same exact proof except our skin tone had been whitened. No thanks. Cancelled again explaining why and in several email exchanges, got the same stock response and cancellation can’t happen because of the “custom process” while at the same time being offered the option to submit an entirely new photo so they can try again to keep my money. The automatic digital program they’re using is not high quality nor is it “custom.” I recommend using your own filters or app for substantially cheaper. Customer service is terrible and this company is not operating in good faith.

AWFUL SERVICE

This company is completely unresponsive with their customer service and incompetent beyond belief. Ordered a Christmas gift 30 days before and received notice that it was shipping soon 12/4. Nothing until 12/10 and I followed up and they said it was coming soon. Three more times I followed up with no change. Finally after Christmas I received an apology that it would be another 2 weeks with a half hearted apology. Canceled the order. Avoid these people

Scam warning: I ordered a portrait of my daughter from Smirky on December 3rd (hoping to give it as a gift to my husband). I received my digital proof on December 9th and it was... laughably bad. It looked nothing like my daughter (even the hair color was wrong), and I immediately asked for a refund as I didn't even know where to begin to give them direction to fix it. They refused the refund, so I attempted to make some requests that might help the artist get it right. I never received another proof after that, and Smirky has not responded to any of the emails I've sent asking for an update. The company doesn't list a business phone number or address anywhere (despite saying they're based in NYC), and their support emails are simply signed "Joanna" making it very difficult to take any action against them. I've filed complaints with BBB and the New York Attorney Generals office. Wish I'd paid more attention to the red flags before ordering - hoping someone else may benefit from seeing this.

So my order was confirmed on 11/30, I’m writing this review on 12/31 and I still don’t have my order. I get the post office and deliveries got backed up and all that but being proactive about telling customers “hey your order is still on the way” Don’t run a promotion if you can’t handle the volume. And what do you think becomes of the money I paid to have my order moved up on the production list. Maybe By mother’s day🤞

I ordered my portraits in late November as a Christmas gift...I have YET to receive them. They were promised to be here (expedited) by Christmas. I have sent over twenty emails and get a generic email "I am so sorry..." blah blah.
I have asked to cancel my order and be refunded to no avail. The finally said they would provide a 15% refund - I have gone through my credit card company to dispute the charge. DO NOT ORDER.

I ordered in November. The website states that you will get your proof in 3-4 days. I waited two weeks before getting my proofs. One proof was good, the other needed revisions. This took another week and a half. I approved them instantly and have yet to receive any tracking information. They don’t reply to emails & they delete all negative comments from their social medias. I believe this company is a SCAM!! DO NOT BUY.

The art work looks good so far, though the communication from the company and timeliness is awful. The project I ordered almost a month ago, won't be here for the holidays. Haven't even seen the finished project.

I wish I had read these reviews before i wasted my money with this. Absolutely horrible and off no way to actually talk to a person. The proofs I got look like crap and I can't get a hold of anyone to talk with about this..SUCH A SCAM

Can't wait to give the framed pictures of our daughters to my husband and my dad for Christmas. They are perfect! When I received my proof, I decided I wanted to larger size and the service was outstanding to make that adjustment for me!

It took a couple rounds to get the illustration right, but the smirky team took my feedback really well and it turned out so great! Such a unique item for my home, I decided to gift it to my family for Christmas.

I was really excited to purchase from this site. Then, I went to check out and the only option for shipping was "holiday express" at $31.90!! The shipping information section stated $9.99. I chatted with a support person and they informed me that Holiday Express was the only option. Not cool.

Honestly, ended up being wildly disappointed. Promised over and over that it was on its way. Well over a month to get to Aus, had to follow up over 5 times. Unfortunately I wouldn’t use them again.

Very poor experience with this company. Buyer beware.

When ordering the portrait the website and the communication I initially got from them was that it would take 3-4 business days. It took over a month, after complaining twice.

After eventually receiving the portraits you can see the quality of the framing is really poor. The paper the portraits are printed on is bubbled under the glass and the wood used for the frame is cheap and flimsy.
